  1. We have no AD environment. As I had mentioned I can go to username and password. But I was just wondering if there was a reason why? I have setup a schedule, shutdown and restart which seems to temporarily solve the problem.
  2. I am running an open directory as our login server. Most of the time this runs fine, no issues. Client machines are mostly setup as Name and password for user to login. Some and very few are setup as List of users (round images of staff, they click on). The List of user method is very unreliable and can take five minutes or never to display the users. This is why I moved to Name & Password. The two Macs in one classroom that use the List of Users login method. These two Macs drops the user images after a few hours or over night. I have bind the Macs to the OD server, which did solve the issue for a time. I've checked the bind setting in network utility and it's re-binding every 120 seconds. I know if I move these two machines to Name & Password, there will be no login issues. Anyone have any ideas why these two machines loose the user login icons after a while? One machine is connected with wifi the other is ethernet. Both running OSX 10.13, 2017 models.
  3. Solved it. I put the app on my phone registered the the access point on my phone app, then removed it and added it back to the controller.
  4. Hello All I received 8 new unifi AC Pro's this week. 6 of the devises Adopted on to my manager fine, 2 are playing up. They Adopt Ok, if I then attempt to change the name of the device I get this error "There was an error saving the general changes. ID is invalid." I have reset the device, re-adopted it. restarted it then it tells me that its managed by another device. I then connect with credentials and try again. All I seem to be doing is going around in circles. Anyone have any ideas?
  5. You could use HandyPrint to turn your Mac mini into a AirPrint server. Netputing » handyPrint (AirPrint Activator) it's backwards compatable with older iPads running IOS 9, as papercut mobile server only covers newer IOS's.
  6. Hello Usually you will want to look for Dock in settings under profile manager. This could be for the user or device or group in settings (see image). Then in the Dock setting, under Dock Items you will need to put the link to the software with the code //Applications/Firefox.app for the program to appear in the dock. Alternatively, the other user has manually added the apps to the dock or when the app was open, clicked and hold on the app, then click on "keep in dock" from the pop-up menu.
  7. I have been asked by the Business manager to help her open a Covid19 Risk Assessment Document. For some reason the Covid 19 Risk Assessment document created by the local authority either crashed on MS Word version 16.46 on OSX 10.15.6 or opens with no problem on MS Word version 16.43 on OSX 10.13.6. The document contains a Table Of Contents and two different page layouts one portrait the other landscape. If you open the document in Pages it opens fine no problem. Anyone have any ideas or solutions?
  8. Alas its a 365 licence only theses days. So I have been informed. I thought similar to your thoughts TG12, there use to be a volume licence version, but now it's 365 licence version only.
  9. The Office Apps will work but only in "read only" mode. Until a licence is installed, then they will work as normal. but yes it will use one of the licence up.
  10. A member of the administration staff brought this to my attention. I had previously shown them how to print to a User box, on our Konica Minolta Bizhub C308 photocopier and all was well. When they tried to print to a user box using Pages or safari they were shown a similar print dialogue box showing the same options but they don't work. This is the correct print dialogue box. (image above) This is the same print dialogue box but using safari. (image Below) The same options are there, but they don't work. Anyone have any ideas what to do? It all prints fine, no issues. Just when you want to use a user box the system stop working. I have tried removing the printer and putting it back. Updating the driver. Restarting CUPS, printing from a shared printer, I've tried LPD, IPP and HP Jetdirect - socket. Not sure if I have tried AirPrint yet. And it's still not printing to a user box. This only seems to be happening with Macs on OSX 10.13. I could just tell them too, save it as a PDF and print it from acrobat reader, which works fine and prints to a user box. I would like to know why it's doing it. I did contact Konica Minolta support who seem as confused as I am.
  11. Hey I found these instructions on papercuts website that might help. https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/MacOSLPDvsSMB
  12. I have a staff member using an iPad and Google device policy app to sync their account to the g-suite. I have install the profile on the iPad, it syncs fine, then within a day or two the sync stops and the user can't access their drives or documents. I updated the iPad this morning to iOS 13 and made sure everything is up to date. This is the second time I have had to delete the profile and reinstall it to restore syncing. Does anyone have any ideas of what the issue might be with the syncing and why after a few days it stops syncing?
  13. There is one for sale here https://www.click4mac.com/product.php?products_id=14282 for £357.60 which is good for an unboxed example. But a boxed working with all extras, CD's , Cables, who know how much it's worth. I think they might have had more of them, as I have about 10 of the software discs, but it looks like this was the only eMate saved from the chop or the recycle bin. Also, Completely off topic. I wonder if someone could get DOOM to run on a newton eMate 300. Now that would be interesting.
  14. I am in a very similar possession to you, I have a lot of Macs of different ages, iMac, towers, laptops, iPads, that are growing older and older by the day. According to the rumour mill and this press release https://www.apple.com/newsroom/2020/06/apple-announces-mac-transition-to-apple-silicon/ apple are moving to apple silicon which means there are new Macs on the horizon. It might pay you to wait it out and see what happens, if you are able. Otherwise you could look at Macfinder https://macfinder.co.uk who are a good retailer of Refurbished Macs.
  15. The oldest Working apple product we have at the school is a working Newton eMate 300 from 1997, I replace the battery last year and found a new old stock power adapter to get it all up and running again. It's more of a fun note taking tool for myself than a day to day workhorse. The oldest being used Macs in the school are 2008 Mac Pros, but I am using them as back end servers for munki and printing. The Rumour mill is that apple are moving to Apple Silicon by the end of the year, which will likely kill the second hand market for intel Macs, as it did with Motorola Macs (G3,G4,G5). In two years time all intel Macs will most likely be outdated.
  16. I've playground with apple classroom app and it would allow the teacher to restrict the apps to say safari and google earth. its not a lockdown solution. but it will restrict learners to a limited amount of apps. it will give the teacher a Remote Desktop type of view of the iPads and will allow the teacher to see who's doing what. There is single app mode that will restrict the iPad to just one app, like a kiosk mode.
  17. I have I think 5 boxes of Canon Staples for a photocopier. Code number 6707A001[AC]. I think the school had a canon copier in the past but we are using Konica Minolta's now. Free to a good home.
  18. I work in an SEN school were the pupils tend to use iPads in one area / classroom and don't move around with the iPads that much. There are some pupils who move from classroom to classroom with their iPads. The majority of pupils tend to stick to their classrooms or the iPads are kept in their classrooms. Staff tend to move around more with their laptops.
  19. Hello I am looking to upgrade our WIFI, I am looking at Unifi AP AC Pro units and I was wondering who has the best access point with an emphasis on connectability and reliability with Apple products?
  20. I have a list of ICT bits and pieces that might interest someone if only for parts or to make fish tanks out of. Canon IP7250 Printer ( working ) Canon IP7250 Printer ( working ) Canon IP 2900 Printer ( working ) ELO Touchscreen monitor 12 inch ( working, touchscreen part not reliable but dose touch when it feels like it) iPad air Gold A1509 (spares or repair) Cannon ip 3600 inkjet printer ( working ) The School is having a clear out of printers as staff really should be printing to the photocopiers. I had arranged a collection from a recycler, but the school did not like the idea of them selling our old stuff, or the head did. As you might have noticed I have taken out some stuff, as it's far too gone for anyone to want. Alternatively if anyone can suggest a recycler who will pay to collect our ICT equipment that would help. If you would like any of the ICT equipment above, payments of donations to the school will be welcome.
  21. I should have noticed, "slap head". Check what I have newly installed, is not blocking access to websites / server. It occurred to me that the new anti-virus software might be the problem. Low and behold ESET anti-virus was blocking access. Still Profile Manager is still a pain. OSX Server is defiantly worth all of the £19 that you pay for it. Grumble Grumble, bloody......
  22. Well its been set up this way for sometime now without issue and was enrolling iPad, MacBook, and iMacs happy up until march. I enrolled a iPad yesterday with no issue. then this morning nope. the logic of this makes no sense. I have just tried to enrol an iPad and a MacBook and both enrolled fine. another MacBook nope. going to try to work out what's different about the two devices.
  23. Not the money in the budget to do that ATM.
  24. Yes it's profile manager. Alas I would like it to be working over the internet, but at the moment it's all internal, working over the local lan. It would be more useful to be pushing over the internet, especially during these lock down days. Everything being internal local lan is a hang over from my predecessor.
  25. Hello All I have been trying, in vain, to get our MDM server to work. At the moment when I enrol a device I am told that the SCEP server has an error. The address for the SCEP server, (http://serveraddress.local:80/mdm/scep) tells me that there is a INTERNAL SERVER ERROR (very helpful). With some research I am guessing it has something to do with Certificates or it could be DNS, remembering the last time it did something like this. I also remember hearing something about OSX 10.15 and server 5.10 having a certificate issue. Yesterday I did restore it back to a time when it was "working", alas the issue was back this morning. Any help would be gratefully received, as I am sick of pulling my hair out.
