  1. Hello all I have set up some iPad as shared iPads, added them into the same managed group connected with a class from apple schools manager. When they are login on each iPad the teacher iPad should see in classroom each student login and connected. However at the moment it says offline, and each student is greyed out. The wifi is on and bluetooth is on and they are all connected to the same network. According to Apple own information on classroom, shared iPad should work with classroom.
  2. I have used Davinci resolve from Blackmagic Design. Its a high end colour correction, visual effect software, that has a free vision, that can do some amazing things for a free piece of software. The only drawback is you will need a pretty powerful GPU to run the software effectively, you can run it on a lower end GPU but it will be laggy and slow. I blurred some students faces on a promo video on the schools website and resolve made a great job of the bluring. Here's a video tutorial to how to add a blur

    Snow 2022

I had a chat with a science technician at a previous school, who claimed " it's seems more likely to snow at easter than Christmas these days." This morning as the snow fluttered down I started thinking, will people in the future start giving easter cards with pictures of snowy Scenes and say " it never snow at easter anymore".
  4. The only, gotcha issue with the BenQ screens is where you plug in the USB touch. If you plug in a VGA, the touchscreen usb is next to the VGA plug. if you plug in HDMI it a different usb touch plug, and if you plug in HDMI at the front its a different USB plug again. Depending where you put the video signal the usb touch plug changes. I can see this confusing staff. "it's plugin but it won't detect me touching the screen" IT response "Which video plug did you use?, Front, back, side..." I only discover this when I was plugged in to a usb socket labelled touch and nothing happened, and when back to the manual and discovered how to make the touch work with a VGA or a HDMI or DVI input. However this might be the same on all touchscreens and I just haven't discovered this yet.
  5. Hello We have a BenQ RP 65" touchscreen and the touchscreen function works fine with a MacBook Pro 2011 running MacOS 10.15. You can control the Mac just fine from the touchscreen, no drivers just plugin and play. I haven't tried it with a M1 Mac yet, I could try it on a MacBook Pro 2021 and see if its works. I have no reason to believe that it will not work. We also have a newline 75" touchscreen, but I haven't tried any Macs out on that yet. I think there is limited amount of touch on Mac's, rather than 20 points I think it's down to one or two maybe. I did ask Smart at BETT and they where confident Macs would work on their touchscreens.
  6. Hello all I am not sure how many of you know FileMaker Pro scripting. I am mainly a beginner and know enough to get myself into a jam of misunderstanding. I will try to explain it as clearly as I can. I have two fields, first name & surname and I am putting them together to create a field called "full name". However, when the first name is edited, the full name field removes the surname. which means you have to enter the surname manually in to the field. I have scripted it to add from fields "first name & Surname" which works, ok ish, until edited, then above problem. Anyone know how to solve this issue? Or anyone have any pointers? Or a wall I can bang my head against. I did not create the file in the first place, I am building on someone else's foundations.
  7. The setup I managed to cobble together was more of a BYOD setup. Installing google device manager from the App Store; once installed and users login, Google device manager would push a mobile config to the iPad to manage the machine. It signed users into google related apps ( gmail, meetings, docs, calendar. etc). it was more a single user experience, rather than a multi-user experience. It seems like a good development from google, it had some promise, don't get me wrong. Your experience may differ to mine. I have looked into it further and there seems to be a link with apple schools manager that I haven't engaged with correctly, which might give the whole experience more flexibility and more control over iPads. I also had to setup a push agreement with google and apple school manager to authenticate the pushing of the google mobile profiles to the iPads. When it came to pushing Apps to the iPads, it was a bit limited, as it worked on web located iOS apps rather than using the Apple App Store directly. in order to push an app, like pages for example, you would do a web search in the web version of the App Store. Copy the link to the app then past the link into google mdm then the app would be push out to the devices. I have simplified the process a bit but it was almost that process. But again it did work, just a bit clunky.
  8. You might want to make sure the SLT don't walk in on this! Even though this was broadcast on the radio one, at 1 in the afternoon.
  9. I have managed to get the Google Workspace MDM working on our iPads / staff devices. What I mean is, it kinda yes and kinda no. It requires the Google device manager app and the apple push certificate. I have tried to change the restrictions on a single iPad as a test but I did not seem to work. maybe I need to look into to it further or find a how too.
  10. Made another forum post about this before I noticed this thread. Been waiting two weeks for toner, thought it was the usual suspects mentioned above. Now I know. Still wonder why the remote specialist hasn't organised a date to setup our copiers auto restock. But if they don't have any stock.....
  11. Does anyone know what's happening with Konica Minolta Business solutions? Their phone line for consumables, has a crazy long wait time. I have been waiting for toner for two weeks. They usually turn up within two days. I have tried to organise a Remote Resolution Specialist to fix the auto restock issue on both of our copiers, for over a month now. Anyone else having troubles? Update: Just found another post about this in the General chat section. OOOPS
  12. I have already spoken to one of the SLT who was clear on the fact, the school is not going to foot the ECC, as its a bit big £6K almost £7K. I was just wondering if we cancel the order, are we going to hit the same hurdle with another supplier. Looks like it might. We are looking to try to re-use the current BT infrastructure (overhead cabling) for the lease line. fingers crossed.
  13. With Lionel Blair two things come to mind, "Give us a clue" and Lionel Blair stare! The second I had to do a quick web search, and it's a reference to Noel Edmonds' Gotcha, which is me showing my age.
  14. Hello All Back in June the school signed up for a Lease Line. This week we have been told by our provider that Virgin media will charge up an Excess Construction Charge to install a cable to the school. This was never mentioned in the original price or in the contract we signed. My question is, is this a normal situation for providers require Excess Construction Charge? Or are we just very unlucky?
  15. I have PM you the serial number. Its connected to a MacBook Pro running OSX 10.15. USB cable, VGA cable.
  16. Hello All We have a Benq RM6501K 65" touchscreen, that I am informed through a ICT ticket, "The screen is freezing periodically and the internet seems to have become extremely slow - both independently or working via the laptop." I have powered down the screen to see if this will clear any cashes or clear any background running apps in the android software. The screen is connected to our network through ethernet; so the internet shouldn't be an issue really. but we do have a slow connection that dose course problems if staff are video training somewhere in the school. I have check for updates and its up to date. Anyone have any ideas for the freezing? Or is it normal, as technology dose now and again freeze up.
  17. Hello After a week of fiddling with our smoothwall, I have managed to block searchers for "Ian Beale". I know I need to replace old iOS devices, I currently don't have the budget. The power at be, are targeting new devices to the staff and not the learners. It's a policy that will bite them in the rear soon enough.
  18. Hello All We have a pupil who is obsessed with Ian Beale and prints mountains of pictures of the character. No, this is not April first. You read that right; Ian Beale. I have tried the "not allow AirPrint" from the MDM. Alas its running iOS 9 and the no AirPrint only seems to work on iOS 11 and above. As I tested it on my iPad mini running iOS 12 and it removes the option to print. The iOS 9 device still has the option. I thought I had it working, but the handy print AirPrint server had just chocked and needed a restart; which means the iOS 9 device can still print. We have a smoothwall for our firewall and filtering, but I am not sure if a smoothwall S4 box can block search content. I could put the device on a different WIFI network so the pupil can still have the internet but no printing. Which I think is an option. Anyone got any other ideas?
  19. Update. The retailer has contacted up and is going to attempt to get a refund on our month overlap. Fingers crossed.
  20. The SLT are always looking for the cheapest price. They have told me not to look for the cheapest but for the best offer, but eventually it comes down to price. Alas every year I have to go in the hunt for a better price. It could be the price of switching, if it is then I am still in the dog house as I have to state the full price with no hidden extras. I contacted the MS office support department of the supplier and explained the situation and suggested adding an extra month on the end of the licence next year. The support guy agreed that that was a good idea and something they "Could" do, but he need to talk to our account manager first. Hopefully this will happen and everyone will be happy and everyone gets what they want. No word from the supplier so far.
  21. Hello all I was wondering if you could give me some advice. We perchance our office 365 A3 licence on a yearly bases. Not by my choice, but on the insistence of SLT. I signed up to a new provider for a office 365 licence, before our previous licence runs out. The original PO stetted the date when we wanted the licence to start. We have ended up with an overlap of a month. Which we have already pay for with our last licence. I have contacted the seller and explained the situation and offered a compromise of an extra month at the end of our 12 months. Rather than us getting 11 months. They get their money we get Office 365, everyones happy. Anyone have any ideas if the seller disagree this my compromise and I have to go down a different route with them? I have an ICT meeting with the head on Tuesday, where I will have to explain the mixup and try to save face. Any pointers?
  22. Most of this is down to the usual classic factors of, money, not enough knowledge, hardware & setup before I work here. I had budgeted for a AD as AFP is going away and ATM OD my setup doesn't authorise SMB logins. but maybe, it will if I setup the server sans local, it might work. I had talked to a colleague that Local was a bad move and we should use a web address. I did have a panther server (10.3) back in the day which worked flawlessly, however it was within a windows network, so it did not need to run DNS or DHCP just OD, file sharing & print management. But then, a year later I did move to Mac Admin which was a wonderful piece of software at managing Mac, printing and users. Shame it was killed by OSX 10.6. Great software. it seems to have been wiped from the internet now, hard to find out that it even existed. But I am getting off topic. Looks like I have to make some choices over the summer holidays.
  23. You're making my blood run a bit cold here. It's just the one machine running all DNS and DHCP. One master and no Replica. You are making be think that's bad? It's using Local, which I know is not good.
  24. I've encountered a somewhat strange problem with some MacBook Airs running OSX 10.13. Now and again the Shared servers stop appearing in sidebar / network. Both AFP and SMB shared server just disappear. Sometimes a restart solves the problem, but not always. One solution I found on stack exchange, was to go to ~/Library/Preferences and find the com.apple.sidebarlist.plist file and edit it in Xcode. Today a Mac BookAir lost the shared server, so I went looking for the .plist and it was missing; not in any Library folder or in any Preference folder. After a lot of internet searching, I finally made an automation in automator which displays the shared servers in a nice pop-up window. Weirdly the pop-up window displays the shared servers; the Mac can see the servers on the network, but will not display them in the sidebar, that's very weird, a real head scratcher. Anyone else experienced this?
