    Forgive my obstinacy but is there a way to do it withOUT using an MDM. Here's the thing, I don't want to assume that an MDM will solve all my problems because usually when I assume that a particular problem is caused by X, Y, and Z, I make myself look like donkey. While it is my understanding that sometime down the road an MDM solution will be acquired I just want to have things working properly before we make that move. Regardless, thank you for your advice and help, I do appreciate it.

    Hey Jatso, thanks for your response, the computers we use were assembled/remanufactured by Bytespeed. Also, I probably forgot to mention in my original post, that we are running Windows 7.

    Yes in Apple Configurator I've prearranged the icons to a certain order using the homescreen layout in the blueprint but I can not prevent students who use the device from accidentally rearranging the icons. As for MDM's we aren't using one.

    Good afternoon everybody, I've been playing a game a "whack-a-mole" for too long now. My public school has several refurbished desktop computers with the Intel D61CR motherboard and every security update since March (KB4088875, KB4088881, and KB4093118) has crashed the computer. After installing the update Windows won't load and I either have to revert to the last restore point or reimage the computer. Has anybody else had this issue and what's the best way to go about to correcting it. Thank you in advance!

    Good afternoon everybody, Is there a way to prevent app movements on the home screen without jailbreaking it? In my public school I manage a cart of 30 iPads manually using Apple Configurator 2 and I am trying to figure out how to prevent students from accidentally rearranging the home screen icons. From several google searches I found one ehow video ( ) which suggests a jailbreaking but I don't like jailbreaking for various reasons. Is there something I am overlooking? Thank you in advance!

    In my public school job I'm responsible for a cart of 30 shared iPad 4th generation and since we are a Google school and we don't have a MDM, I've deployed them manually using only Apple Configurator (no Apple School Manager.) Here are some roadblocks and problems I've run into which I could use some advice and/or help with: When a new app is requested for use in the iPads, first I duplicate the old Blueprint and put today's date on it (for version control), I add the app to the Blueprint in a specific location as preferred by the teacher, then I reapply the blueprint to the existing iPads. PROBLEM: Since the iPads are numbered via the blueprint sequentially (e.g.. Library iPad 1, Library iPad 2....Library iPad 30,) when the changed blueprint is re-applied the iPads renumber themselves (e.g.. Library iPad 31, Library iPad 32...Library iPad 60). What option did I overlook or accidently click which causes the iPads to rename themselves every time the blueprint is reapplied? PROBLEM: When reapplying the blueprints, I have to babysit the Mac Mini to be there to click a user prompt (e.g... "Do you want to replace the apps?") and there are other things which require my attention in the meantime. How can I automate or streamline this process? ROADBLOCK: Besides apps, we also use web clips for certain educational websites where no app exists, however as far as I can tell, there is no way to prearrange the location of these webclips on the homescreen, which then need to be manually arranged on each iPad afterwards. Is there another way I can do this? ROADBLOCK: Intermittently it seems like when applying the blueprint the entire operation would get stuck or hang and remain that way until either I click "cancel" or at worst unplug the cart from the Mac Mini. Sometimes it would get stuck at downloading apps and other times it would seemingly get stuck at assigning licenses. Has anybody else experienced this issue? I've tried checking in the Mac OS X Sierra's Console.app but I won't let me view logs created at an earlier point in time. PROBLEM: Is there a way to prevent students from changing the home screen layout? On Android tablets that my manager manages for kindergarten and first graders it seems like there is no way the students can accidently move the app icons as opposed to the iPads. What am I overlooking here? Any and all help would be appreciated it because it feels like there are important things which I am overlooking but can't figure out what, and that frustrates me.

    Does anybody else have issues with Windows 10 DPC Watchdog errors? If so how have you fixed them? In my public school job the teachers have Windows 10 ASUS TP200S laptops and since September we've started to have an increasing amount of laptops with the DPS watchdog error code. Usually the laptop would lock up and then shortly the blue screen with the DPS Watchdog error would pop up before restarting. When trying to run the blue screen troubleshooter it finds no blue screens occurred even though I just experienced one. Usually we to fix this we try to allow the laptop to install any pending updates, I run checkdisk (chkdsk), and the system file checker (SFC-scan now) in addition to manually checking each driver to see if there are any updates for them. Sometimes this appears to work and other times the laptop comes back to us. The current laptop I'm working on, it first came in at the beginning of February and I did all the above then returned it to the teacher. No problem until recently the teacher started having multiple errors in one day. These errors are tricky and hard to duplicate in my experience they show no consistency, the error could happen whether you're at the login screen or in google classroom. Any advice and help would be appreciated it, thank you in advance!

    Monday evening update: Thank you for all the advice everybody. (Short story) I got it to work both with a mini-HDMI enabled laptop and directly connected to the VGA desktop with and without the VGA splitter box, after performing an auto-update via the smartboad's onscreen settings. It appears to me that the desktop itself would automatically scale to 1920x1080 with only the smartboard attached but if I attach the desktop monitor the computer would downscale to either 1280x720 or 1366x768 for the desktop monitor which would then screw things up because we are duplicated the screens. I could get the smart board to work on a VGA splitter but the resolution is out of range for the desktop monitor. If I downscale to a resolution within range of the monitor, then the SB picture would jump off. Anyways that’s the short story, I will present my findings to my boss and see how it goes. Thank you everybody again for your help!

    Thank you dapaulio for the guide and suggestions. I'll check with my manager to see if we have any HDMI equipped computers or laptops as well as do another trouble shooting round starting with the most basic hardware.

    Thank you for your ideas dapaulio, I'll see if I can run a USB cable straight from the board to the PC bypassing the wall mounted box.

    Good afternoon/evening/morning everybody (depending on your locale), looking for some ideas and/or advice here. What would cause a scrambled and/or discolored mirrored picture on a Smart 6075 smartboards? Recently my school districts bought and had installed three Smart 6075 smartboards, they are huge things with great potential, they went into classrooms replacing various older projectors like Sanyo and Smart. So Friday I went into these classrooms and connected the computer to these smartboards using a VGA-HDMI converter box and proceeded to test out the mirrored image mode (when you mirror the desktop image to both it's monitor and the smartboard.) At first the picture came out all scrambled and upon advice from my boss I tried different resolutions trying to find the right one. Almost all of them from 800x600 to even the 1920x1080 came out scrambled and the last one didn't even show on the desktop PC monitor. The only one which I got a solid picture (some of the time) was 1280x720. When the picture does stabilize on the 1280x720, the left quarter of the screen is cut off and tiles to the right (as shown in pictures below.) I tried directly connecting the computer to the VGA-HDMI converter bypassing the vga splitter with the desktop monitor, swapping out the vga cables, as well as bypassing the HDMI wall box and plugging the HDMI cable into the smartboard itself, all to no avail. School starts in less than a week (may be even sooner than I know) and I want to get these working so I can quickly move onto and resolve my next task, any ideas and/or tips would be greatly appreciated. P.S. - don't know why the images are rotated 180 and can't figure out right now how to rotate them another 180 back to their original.

    Thank you for your response Phillyrovers, while I understand that is a not a user serviceable area, what must be done must be done to fit within the budget. What I eventually did after guidance and advice from my boss was remove the speakers from the board we were replacing and put them on that board. It wasn't an easy job, it wasn't a fun job, it took me a day and a half (almost 10 hours may be less) but it was done. The original part is soldered to the circuit board of the speakers and was hanging by a sliver of solder and I should have been extremely careful when moving and plugging the cable in. Anyways the speakers were swapped and everybody's(?) content. It would be nice in the future (generally speaking) if companies would make more parts user serviceable where possible, especially on expensive equipment.     Sorry everybody, kinda dropped the ball on this one. Final update: it turns out the spare bulb we had might have been defective/used. After getting a brand new/refurbished lamp in, the projector came to life.

    Good morning everybody, Where can I find a service manual/disassembly guide for a 300 Series Pro smart board? On Friday while preparing to replace a classroom board in which the flame stopped functioning with a board taken from a classroom that's been repurposed, I accidentally broke a loose plug which then proceeded to fall inside the board. The plug is for a what seems like a power cable that runs from the side of the board (behind the sound panel) to the top of the board (behind the flame), it's not the USB cable. My job on Monday is to disassemble that section of the board, retrieve the part in hopes of repairing so the board can be used on the first day of school. In the picture enclosed of a similar board I found online, I circled in red and white the two areas where the cable plugs into with the red circle being the area where the plug receptacle broke.     Thank you for your reply, yes during one of my attempts I did do the reset as per Smarts website. May be it was just a loose screw, I forgot the remote in the media center so I'll stop over today and pick it up and try it again. I'll update you on my progress later today. Thank you again.

    At my public school we had lamp bulb for a Smart UF45 projector burn out, pop and shatter within the unit, fortunately most of the glass stayed within the lamp housing. The projector hangs upside down and faces to the rear which leaves the access panel facing down and easy to service with a ladder. Following instructions downloaded from Smart's website I removed the old lamp, didn't originally notice any pieces of glass when I shined my phone camera's light up there. After inserting the replacement bulb and ensuring all the screws were tight, plugging it back in, the fan powers on but after 5ish minutes with just the fan and no picture, I get 5 beeps and right lights (blinking lamp, solid power.) I double check everything two or three times with the same results before I call my boss. My boss recommends double checking the access panels, I do that to also no success. Upon my bosses instruction I remove the projector unit from the boom and bring it back to my desk/workbench which is when my boss notices that one of the screws were loose and there were tiny shards of glass I did not see before. Since this is the only type of this projector we have and since the media center specialist uses it for almost every class period, I must get it cleaned and working asap, therefore what is the best way to clean tiny slivers of broken glass from the inside of the projector when you don't have a vacuum and is there anything I should be aware of that could be causing the projector reject the lamp? Also could I have done any damage by having the loose mounting screw which I originally thought was tight? Thank you in advance!

    Hi I'm Anthony and I support two different schools. One is a small school district in Northeastern Bergen County New Jersey and the other is a small parochial school in Hudson County NJ near the Lincoln Tunnel. At my Bergen County job me and my technical coordinator (we are a department of two) support about 60-70 teachers meanwhile at my Hudson county job it is just me and one other new hire supporting 20-30 teachers.
