Anyone else having problems pulling up the AQA website today www.aqa.org.uk/subjects/media-studies/gcse/media-studies-4810

KS3/4 Special School for boys with Emotional and Behavioural Difficulties. Class size of 8. We have three classrooms that should run Windows 7 Laptops, one has Lenovo mini Notebooks. They cost £450 and according to the teaching staff the lads don't like using them because they are small. Another has HP 625s, and the third Toshiba 660Cs. Problems from my point of view are all related to teacher control. Simply they fail to supervise properly and the laptops are trollied after the lads have closed the lids and not bothered to log off and shut them down. Keyboards have keys vandalised and I've had to replace two screens because of physical abuse to the machines. Plus of course, the batteries give up the ghost. One member of the management team wants me to get quotes to replace the kit and doesn't comprehend the fact that unless the use is tightly controlled no laptop is going to be up to the job. The laptops could all do with a bost from the 2GB of RAM fitted but apart from that are in my opinion fit for purpose. The simple fact is the lads just don't like using laptops. Not sure how to move forward on this one!

I'm surprised the Greens aren't polling heavier in this one given the fact they have such a strong education policy, will scrap OFSTED and scrap tuition fees.

We currently have DHCP allocated to our Domain through our DC. We have now been allocated a second IP Address range to use for VOIP & CCTV. As DHCP allocation is not something I'm dealing with day to day (it usually just about runs itself) I'm seeking advice on how to allocate the New range to the PoE Switches that have been set up to run the CCTV / VOIP. What's best practice please.

Founder in 97 of a pressure group campaigning in particular against synthetic sweeteners (especially Aspartame) food colour ants that trigger hyperactivity and preservatives that trigger asthmatic reactions (especially Sodium Metabisulphiate). School governor in secondary school for 11 years. Former runner, still registered as a technical field official and coach for athletics. CWO and general helper at local rowing club and last but not least since 2004 a Freemason (a widely misunderstood organisation founded on the principles of brotherly love, relief and truth which loosely translated equates to being moral and otherwise well behaved, and part of the second biggest downer organisation to charity in the UK) in that I'm a Past Master in the Craft degree, Inner Guard in the Mark Degree and Organist in the degree of a Royal Ark Marriner - which sounds like I might be musical doesn't it but no sadly I only play the disks! Father of one boy and three girls. Six grandchildren. Apart from that life's pretty quiet!

Andy Ratcliffe is in my opinion a diamond geezer. No idea how we would have achieved our migration without him. Hopefully Haptic have someone on their team capable of offering the same level of service and support?

Sadly in the changeover you seem to have lost that star of Office 365 Migration - the legendary Andy Ratcliffe. Whose the contact for that now please.

Thanks - it's already a air conditioned room. The HP Procurve switch is the noisiest bit of kit in there currently. My worry is as the cabinet gets rigged with the new CCTV and VOIP kit the noise load is going to be greatly increased. Naturally I've had no say over what or squat!

We recently had a floor to ceiling Comms cabinet installed in our server room. The room previously had three tower servers and the noise level was pretty tolerable in the air conditioned room. In the Comms cabinet there is currently one HP Procurve and the ancillary network router and associated items. We will be having VOIP and CCTV kit installed in the cabinet in the near future and the plan is to have a UPS and new server with associated fold flat screen etc to replace one of the tower servers. I'm thinking this lot is going to significantly increase the noise level and I'm looking for suggestions toward noise minimisation please?

Same sort of thing is happening round here - Wiltshire and out through Bath / Bristol. Very strong Green candidate Author / Bristol Uni Lecturer Phil Chamberlain in North Wiltshire standing for the second time against James Gray who severely blotted his copy book prior to the 2010 election by the way he treated his then wife who was ill at the time but still got elected! This time round the Green is right on top of his campaign so may hopefully break through. The excellent MP Don Foster isn't standing and the Greens have a very strong candidate there Dominic Tristram. The Greens also have really good candidates in particularly the ever swing seat of Bristol West and Somerton & Frome where the Lib Dem legend David Heath won't be standing for reelection. I'm hugely impressed by the caliber and commitment of the Green Candidates I have met, Phil Randall in West Wiltshire, Tina Johnston in Chippenham where Lib Dem Duncan Hames is fighting hard to keep his seat against a massive (and I suspect massively funded) Tory newbie who has been parachuted in to fight the seat. Interesting times and without a doubt one of the most exciting elections I have witnessed. In my own patch of Devizes - a so called safe Tory seat the Greens have fielded a heavyweight Doctor of Economics - Emma Dawnay who is going down a storm at the hustings - indeed the Tory turned up late for one husting and isn't going to another - specifically on the Environment, as she has some sort of Tory event to attend instead! If nothing the 2015 election is going to trigger the massive reform our electoral system that it so desperately needs.

Thanks @witch yes after much help from fellow Edugeekers I was a total failure in achieving migration on my own so got hold of the excellent Andy Ratcliffe at C.P.Ltd Tel: 01536316878 working with Andy I did the grunting and he did the planning and thinking plus those essential tweaks that actually ensure that O365 works correctly. We now have a running support contract which I'd also recommend.

For me the Green Party on Education is an absolute winner The Green Party | Home Scrap tuition fees and take the disastrous Academies back into LEA control have got to be very positive steps. It looks to me like they would actually let teachers get on with the job of teaching as well and stop the continual interference that is so unsettling under both Labour and the Tories. - a large percentage of those politicians tend to use Public Schools for their offspring anyhow!

My gut tells me that 2015 will see the political map of the UK changed forever. Labour and the Tories are going to see 'safe seats' fall to unexpected quarters. In my local area I'd be totally surprised if the swing barometer Bristol West doesn't go green - fabulous candidate. With the Lib Dem Ledgend Don Foster standing down, I'd again follow the outcome of Bath with deep interest - the Green Party has another very strong candidate there. North Wiltshire also could easily go Green with high profile Green veteran University Lecturer Phil Chamberlain running an extremely strong campaign against the, in my opinion odious sitting Conservative James Gray.

Good Poll. Thank you. However, here we are at 13 pages and only 124 Edugeek Members have bothered to vote. We either have far more 'overseas' members than I realised or on the other hand let's hope it's not a case of 'can't be bothered' This is the first election in modern times where even under The First Past The Post system every vote is likely to count. Doubtful that any of the so called 'Safe' seats are actually safe this time round (well except Mr Burcowe's)

I'd be extremely interested @tmcd if you could offer a more specific critique of the Green policies you find fill you with horror? Unfortunately the only Manifesto they currently have available is the one that ran for the Euro Elections. The 2015 General Election manifesto unfortunately isn't being released for another ten days. The policies are proposed by the membership and written with oversight of The New Economics Foundation. Interesting that you pledge to vote Labour. Surely the current Labour Party is far removed from the Socalist Labour Party that existed a couple of decades or so ago. Indeed personally I see little difference nowadays in any of the Right of Centre partieswhich I see as right of centre from the left to right the Lib Dems, Labour, Conservatives and UKIP. Do you really want Ed Milliband as Prime Minister?

Thank you @MatthewL for changing the Poll to include most of the parties fielding Candidates. It surprises me that Labour seem to be getting a fair bit of support on here. Do so many of you fellow Edugeekers really want Ed Milliband representing the Country as Prime Minister. Additionally the have had their chance and mired themselves in both the expenses scandal but also lurched severely to the right of centre so they like the Lib Dems and UKIP are just another right wing party nowadays. Little Socalists about them at all.

Interesting thread. However I'm not ticking the poll unless you change it to realistically reflect the lay of the land. In England and Wales alone The Greens have considerably more signed up current active members; closing on 55,000 than either the Lib Dems or UKIPPERS do throughout the United Kingdom; both with membership in the lower 40 thousands. The Greens are also fielding candidates in over 90% of Westminster seats. About 550 last time I looked with a few selections still ongoing. As for BNP I don't think they any longer count in any realistic manner so why you have included them baffles me. Greens for me - I am actively involved. Scrap tuition fees - fully costed policies mostly written with deep input from The New Economics Foundation. A very different Green Party in 2015 from the Green Party many people remember from the Early 90s.

Been having the same problem - so far it only affects staff logons with IE11. Apparently that's down to the fact our main DC is running 32 bit Server 2008 Standard Edition. Therefore the server won't run IE11 in it's own right.

Anyone able to advise on how long the BTEC PE exam takes on average to run please?

After much help from fellow Edugeekers and much frustration I ended up getting C.P.Ltd in to do the job. Andy Radcliffe of that company top man.

This solution seems to need to backup to a dedicated server 'offsite' any suggestions on that aspect lease. Our current server environment is in a nice air conditioned room. We do have a 'house' within the school grounds that could have a room adapted to house a server but with tight budgets I don't see any request for that going down at all well. I could host a server in my house but I don't think that's a workable solution for various reasons. How do other schools using this seemingly excellent solution work around this?
