You can manage the folders as well as the apps i.e. disallowing access to the entire Utilities folder would result in none of the users being able to access the apps inside this folder. You could also run WGM on the lion clients and add the apps that are being denied to the list. You can find these in the client logs. You will need the 10.7.3 version of WGM though to do this.

@stevehill06 I think you will be inundated with requests for the new 2.5 version as Joomla 1.5 is now End of Life. It is also becoming increasingly difficult to find a decent free template as most now have to be paid for, which is fair enough as it takes time.

If you're running webhelpdesk they have an app that hooks into their help desk system. It's not a native iPad app and it isn't all that great in fairness, but it's a start. You can also access it by web address. I use my iPad to VPN onto the remote servers from home, using the built-in VPN. I use Remoter VNC to access my Apple and Windows servers. I use StudyWiz's E-Locker app to remotely access all of my documents stored in my home dir on the server, remotely.

So you have created an image from the windows pcs hdds and am now deploying this image to the MacBook bootcamp partitions? If so could you not just use deploy studios ability to pxe boot the pc and capture the image using that, to using the same system/software throughout?

What file is being used in deploy studio ? Is the file name ending with the .dmg? The version I'm referring to is the latest version that supports 10.7.3. If you haven't updated deploy studio recently, you may need to do this if running from 10.7.3. I may be barking up the wrong tree though.

Deploystudio have changed the file name suffix with the newer versions. The windows images should now also end with .dmg. Maybe this is the issue you are seeing?

The initial read about Concerto seems quite interesting. However, when trying got get it to run, it turned out to be a different story. I am not quite sure what is going on. When loading the page in Safari 5.1.5 I get a whole load of text looking like this At the bottom is the following errors I'm not quite sure how to fix this. The diagnostic page is rendering OK except there are no results being returned at all. I would accept bright red failed results at the moment.

Hello, I have ben asked to look into and cost up some life channel alternatives. I looked into Xibo briefly before we had Life Channel installed, and is one I will be looking into again as there has been some development since. Can anyone recommend an alternative to the Life Channel. I also would like to provide a solution that allows for the embedding of Live TV, such as from a MythTV setup. Thanks.

Does anyone play on PS3? I have recently applied the recent update and now it seems to crash every time it is played. I am currently on my way to sort out potema and crouch in some water to do over a draugr and then it crashes. It's done this twice. The day before I turned around. The game is an absolute PITA to play on the PS3. I must have saved the game around 1500 times. Not because I'm rubbish but because after each and every thing I do, collect, or change I have to in case it crashes. Flippin' nightmare! I'm really not liking Sony's box O'Cr*p at the moment

Can you not add the urls to the favourites using group policy. Thats how I did it when we used it.

How much space is available on the drives? Could it be limited space available, causing lots of swapping in and out of files?

So at the moment you are logging in the users with a single account on the local machine? Could you use Mobile accounts? This would allow each individual student to log into the macs using either their mac account (if it is a stand-alone Open Directory service) or their AD account if the system is in a Magic Triangle setup. Users could then add the shares to their keychain if necessary without fear of any other users having access to their data or causing problems with other users mounting their shares. They should also have the benefit of mounting shares using kerberos authentication. All this with the benefit of running Sibelius locally. Now I've never used Sibelius so i don't know how it works. Where does Sibelius store it's data files? Does it store items pin the users home dir, like office 2011, or does it run completely from the local drive. If it is storing items in a folder in the user's home dir, you may be able to re-direct the folder on login to the local drive to speed up the app and reduce bandwidth usage at the same time. You would need to look into how Sibelius works first though.

We had issues with Belkin routers in the past. Once we purchased some Airport Extreme Base stations, things seemed to work relatively well. If you need something in the interim before the business stuff comes along, maybe worth getting a couple or even finding someone to loan you one for a trial. We did have up to 15 MacBooks running off one before.

What routers APs are you using? How many clients logging in at one time? What speed is the network? I have 8 MacBooks all connected to an airport extreme router (in access point mode) connected back to a 1gb switch using fully networked accounts. It can be a little slow but works relatively well. With mobile accounts I have found Lion's to be a little lacking if used in conjunction with AD. MAybe setup login and logout synching for mobile accounts and have just the documents synching. Library preferences could sync in background. I always had issues with permissions when i tried it myself, but I had lots of headaches after a migration from a macbook pro to an old iMac machine around 4 months ago. It didn't go too well at all. Still feeling the effects now.

Hello, I hope someone can hepl me with this issue. I have created a Network deployment of ActivInspire 1.6 using Windows 7 64bit. I couldn't copy the msi and the related files directly to the software deployment share for some unknown reason so had to manually copy them up. Once this had finished I ran the transform app to create a transform for the software. I entered a unc path for the shared resource \\server\app_share\resources\ I then added the software to an already created gp policu for deploying activInspire. It detected that the previous version was already in the list and that it would upgrade it. Great! However, when it came to deployment 1.6 could not update the older (1.4) version due to the unc path not being found, but the path now is \\\\server\\app_share\\resources\\. Something has told the deployment to escape the \ characters. I have checked the mst file and thats still looks correct. What else could be doing this? Group Policy maybe? Is there a problem with using UNC paths in transforms or indeed when deploying software in general. Should I be mapping network drives? If so how, since the drives would not be able to be mapped until login ??? TIA. Edit: Just noticed some small print stating that paths CAN be UNC paths but yet they are being mangled.

Thanks for the feedback. According to the user I am looking into this for, they require the graphs as well as the data. She has an excel spreadsheet for nursery assessment data that she uses to track the progress of the pupils with. We have the graphs that do this for an overall group, i.e. how many come out green, amber red etc. She went to a meeting to provide this data only to be told that they wanted to see what progress was being made for each individual child rather than the whole group. So now she has been using the spreadsheet for a while and now needs to interrogate the data further. Data which at the moment she doesn't have any way of interrogating. I was going to try to develop an online system that would allow her to update the data on a site and dynamically build the graphs in real-time. I know that share point can do this with MSSQL DB backend. I am just looking a various ways at the moment. I have read about a PHP module which uses the GD module library called GDChart which looks promising but any builds apparently being made for OS X seem to have bugs. OS X is what I use to host my internal sites. Thanks for listening
