I love the Link to the past on the SNES. I think that's perhaps the best one ever made. I liked Ocarina of Time, but never beat it. It seemed a little disjointed to me and difficult to work out what had to be done next. I also never really got into Majora's Mask and so only ever loaded it and played it for a bit and that's it. I liked Wind Waker but as someone else said it got a bit tedious floating about everywhere. It was only when I played Twilight Princess did I del like I was playing something that matched the SNES version. I want to play Skyward Sword though just to say I have On the portability side of things the Links Awakening was good although I got stuck when needing a key for the last door and didn't have one. Never played four swords and liked the Phantom hour glass. Never played Spirit Tracks either. But I do like my Zelda games.

Not that I know to. Your best bet would be to look at the applescripts that @localzuk linked to and look at startup scripts or something.

The rumor mills been relatively quiet about the hardware that is not an iOS device. I read about the USB 3.0 as well. Stands to reason given the mass use of the port. I think I vaguely recall reading something about the ethernet port being shrunk, as it is the only port stopping the portables from becoming thinner designs.

The menu option doesn't show up in 10.5+ until another location has been created.

You don't have to go into System Prefs each time to change the location. You can just go to the Apple menu >Locations >Work/home/whatever-you-have-set-up.

The command is in the terminal templates under miscellaneous if i recall correctly. You could even schedule the command to run at a set time during the day if you know that the machines will be online at that time. If you have a task server, in theory you could run the command against that and this would in turn run on the client as soon as they appear online.

How can locations get on your nerves. Its 2 clicks. The initial configuration can be a bit of a pain but other than that, relatively simple to use and not really fiddly. Edit: someone beat me to it. However, you can just have the automatic location set for home. This would have no proxy info set at all.

I am looking at speccing some laptops for staff. I am looking at the minimum requirements for the software that will need to go onto the machines and trying to work out the best fit for these plus a bit more for the future. How do you guys work out the system requirements for your hardware? Do you just go with the requirements of Windows + a bit more or do you use calculations that supercomputers have to perform to get the end results? TIA

Have you been able to rule out any network drop-outs? I know that if OS X is running using networked based accounts that if the network disconnects for long enough then the clients will crash causing the issues that you see. Occasionally if the network comes back up in time the client may be able to restore functionality. If off long enough, the client will just freeze. Maybe the connection to the SMB share is dropping out causing the clients to freeze. Finder is unresponsive as soon as network connectivity is lost. Local home dirs would not be affected like this so would not show the symptoms even if the home dir is mounted. This may disappear but it wouldn't cause the system to crash. OS X is notoriously bad when used on a networked account as it doesn't download a copy like Windows does. It runs right from the server, hence the reason to redirect any folders that could be written to frequently. You could maybe open up an SSH tunnel to a client and then run a tail on the logs to see what is happening. If the network connection does drop-out your connection may be lost as a result and then you would know what the cause is.

Since each client is purchased at the same time each should be licensed for the same software i.e. Lion, iLife '11 etc. With ARD, yes it can only be downloaded now unless you can find someone who still ships the boxed copy, highly unlikely though as Apple has either sold through all boxed copies or recalled them. You may be able to use ARD to distribute the software afterwards if time becomes an issue. I have rolled out some app store software just simply using the copy command in ARD. Works fine.

Is the domain name pushed out via dhcp and entered in the Search Domains? If so is it also listed in the proxy exceptions list? I have seen this when someone was using a .local domain and if the domain name was not listed under the exceptions then the client would keep trying to go outbound to the web. Also what version of Server are you running. I had massive issues with 10.5.8 and AFP shares. The service was maxing out at 100%. After upgrading to 10.6 the service never got past 65% under the same load. There was an issue with the threads being held open in 10.5.8 server causing the cpu to max out and causing slow down. If you haven't, move the Safari cache to a tmp location (although 5.1.7 seems to handle this better now), and any other areas that hit the network home dir regularly, such as the logs. These can get written to constantly. Also check the logs to see if there is any software writing to the logs repeatedly in short space of time. This coupled with the logs being stored in the networked home dirs could cause an issue. Also forwarding DNS address. I had login issues as I was using an incorrect DNS forwarding address. Everything worked as expected, just really slowly.

Is it OD only or AD-OD integrated (magic triangle)?

I just got bugged by the fallen quest not being able to be completed because I haven't joined a side but have started the quests. I now cannot complete the fallen quest until I end the war, I assume. I to am beginning to think that perhaps I should get a gaming machine built just for this Bethesda Games. Oblivion was the same on the PS3. If you purchased the Game of the Year disc for the PS3, the bug that was around in the PC version after they added the additional content, popped up on the PS3 version. To get around this apparently you have to go out and source the original game (not GOTY) and swap the discs to complete the quest. The quest I am referring to is the Vampire cure. Come on! Surely if you know that a bug exists like this, you would check the issue before releasing. I'm also at level 52, so I won't be starting again. That's now 2 Bethesda games that I can't complete

Ahh, yes. You just reminded me that as well. I prefixed my OD groups with OSX_ Most information comes from the era of Tiger I think when the process became a lot more simpler than in was in 10.3 server. Most of the process hasn't changed much, just how it is done. This is possibly partly the reason for a lack of documentation, talked about in another thread.

Does kerberos start now on Lion Server when in a magic triangle configuration? It usually says stopped on the OD master as the services are kerberised by the AD.

I support everything myself. I maintain our servers, connections to the servers, repair hardware issues (flipping' White Intel iMacs usually), and also support the staff and students (and lead) in their lessons. But then I'm a primary school and there is no money for things like support. After all, its why they pay me If I do get into a bit of a fix, I may call a friend or ask all of you nice people on here, which usually yields results. As others have said once they are up and running properly, there's hardly any issues. Macs require one thing to be exact to work well - DNS!

What happens when you use the IP?

Yeah radiators are the biggest killers of Wi-Fi signals as you are all probably aware. Also you should have WAPs as high up as possible. to allow the signal to go overheads. Difficult to do this in a home environment though. Sometimes you just don't have the choice where you put stuff. My Mother-in law's house has an extension and if you walk from the kitchen to the extension with a laptop the signal dies instantly as soon as you step over the threshold. I also had to reboot her WifI router the other day - a netgear one.

Apparently after a discussion with a guy who sees a lot of these, its an issue which will not go away, even after a repair. The fix is replacing like for like. The repair is around £90 so not too bad but the issue will appear again. It seems to happen around the middle of the third year of warranty. I say this as we have repaired around 4 now under warranty, but of course this is based on how often they are used (turned on/off as this moves the mirror). As far as I'm aware iWeb stores all of it's information in a domain file inside each user's library folder > Application Support > iWeb. As long as this is backed up regularly (daily), you should be able to restore any corrupt files. Having said that , iWeb hasn't had an update really for a while. I think it may well disappear in the next update, if there is one. But the alternatives @mr_moonface has posted seem to be quite decent. Also if you have issues with uploading to an FTP site using Apple's FTP service then take a look at the guide I uploaded to configure IIS to be used instead. This makes the whole process a lot more easier as I ran into endless issues with permissions with Apple's FTP config file becoming corrupt.

On older machines I think it downloads some files required to restore and check to see if it's been purchased by the account. I just re-image the partition using Deploy Studio as its usually quicker.
