You should have a good look a Munki. Once you get your head around it, it is a very powerful tool. Amsys have a nice blog post about using munki for this. Using Munki to Manage Apple Software Updates » Amsys

You'll need to reset the printer currently stored on the macs. This is easy to do if you have ARD installed. You'll need to use ARD to send the following UNIX command to each of the Mac clients: killall "PrinterProxy" "Printer Setup Utility" "cupsd" 2>/dev/null sleep 1 rm -rf /etc/cups/printers.conf* \ /etc/cups/ppds.dat \ /etc/cups/ppds/* 2>/dev/null Then reboot each client. Each client should then "download" the correct prints from the server..

I couldn't see it at all... ended up using quotaon to kick start quotas... Shame on Apple for removing it..
-
Unfortunately one of Apple's improvements in Lion was to remove the File Sharing from server Admin... It doesn't help that WGM still says go to Server Admin to enable quotas!!

Hi All In previous version of OS X Server you had to enable disk quotas on a volume, using Server Admin, before users quotas were enforced. I've enabled disk quotas of the users within WGM but I can't for the life of me find the setting to enable the quotas on a volume? I've noticed that the limits set in WGM aren't being enforced so there must be a setting I've missed somewhere.... Can anyone point me in the right direction?? Thanks

I'm probably just missing something stupid... but here goes: I've got a server running 10.7.3 (OD1) which is currently the Open Directory Master and has all the home folders stored on it. We've now got to the stage where we need more space for the user home folders. I have created a new server (FS1) and installed 10.7.3. It's been setup as an OD replica using Server Admin. I created a new folder on FS1 (MobileHome) and set it as ”home directory” within server.app When I open WGM the new home folder (MobileHome) isn't listed. I tried manually adding the home direct to a test account in WGM but when I try to login as the test user the home folder can't be accessed. Am a missing something really obvious?

After ditching Augmented Users 12 months ago it's now back on the cards... Unfortunately even with my notes from 12 months ago I can't get the xml file to work correctly in the latest Snow Leopard release.. Is anyone else using Augmented Users??
-
I've finally got eound to writing down some notes on creating Augmented Users. I've put it on my site Link it's mainly written to remind me how to do it!!

Yep You can install Newer OS on older hardware as long as it meets the system requirements. You'll need to purchase a retail (full) version of Snow Leopard. The system disks that come with Macs are machine specific now.
-
Unfortunately the rule of thumb is you can't install older OS on Macs that ship with a newer one. This is usually because the newer Macs include hardware that isn't supported by the older OS. As for WGM setting, they "should" manage the 10.6 client.

Will do... Just having an issue the auto-magically creating the the users. I've been looking at Bombich's script (Bombich.com: Mac OS X Management Custom Shell Script Library) but I'm struggling to get it to run

Sorry I've only just seen your reply.. I'm just writing up how I got the augmented users working. Once it's finished I'll PM you the details.
-
Thanks for the reply. After a lot of head scratching I found that my server had lost it's connection with the Active Directory. After binding the server to the AD again I was still unable to create a home directory using the "createhomedir" command but when I logged on to a client as my augmented user the home directory was created on my AFP server!! HAPPY DAYS!!

Has anyone setup "The Cylinder of Destiny" with Snow Leopard?? I've add all the necessary attributes to my augmented user to get an AFP home folder but when I run the createhomedir command, nothing happens.

After looking into alternative solutions, I've had a look at augmented users. Has anyone used augment users with AFP Home drives??
