In my opinion, Miah's is the best Indian in Reading. All of them do takeaway, but only 2 of the 4 restaurants will deliver, and I've only eaten at the Garden of Gulab (which doesn't). I can't imagine their other restaurants serve bad food though!

There is a setting in the Google Apps control panel to prevent the use of the Google Drive client (see below screenshot). They will still be able to use the web client unless you disable Google Docs completely, but this is no different from the old Google Docs (which could also store arbitrary file types) There does not appear to be any way to restrict file types (I just tested and was able to upload .vbs, .cmd, and .exe).

We use an average of 178GB/month, and while we have similar staff/pupil numbers to you, we are a prep school with no boarding. Your usage does not seem unusual at all to me. If your ISP really is putting a 30GB cap on a business line, and haven't put you on a residential tariff by accident, they are idiots. Our single business VDSL line (40Mbps/10Mbps) has a 1000GB monthly cap.

Good point about Word: I've been using Live Writer so long I hadn't noticed they'd integrated almost all its functionality into Word 2010.

I'm surprised it ever worked. We gave up on MX 2004 when we went to Vista as it never worked for us on anything but XP. When did it stop working for you?

Shame to see Windows Live Writer left out. It's actually pretty good, and a lifesaver for those of us trying to get beginners to publish web content.

Related to the subsidised bars point, I remember reading in the paper at break today that in future, Commons bar staff "will be encouraged to stop serving anyone who has had too much to drink". Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I worked in a pub many years ago, and I'm pretty sure that under the Licensing Act it's illegal for bar staff to serve someone who is already drunk, and I was backed up 100% by the landlord if I refused. So why exactly are Commons staff only now being told to actually follow this law? I don't have a problem with them having iPads if they actually use them for their work. But the minute we get a still from BBC Parliament of someone playing Angry Birds in the chamber, or watching pr0n, I want them beaten to death with it.

I've been getting a few emails recently from an organisation calling themselves the "Computer Users Information Service", who claim that: http://www.cuis.co.uk/ This language, along with their name, suggests they are some kind of impartial advice service, but as a BCS member, the fact I had never heard of this supposedly industry-funded body set off warning bells. In the small print they state it's actually a trading name of MINCA (Computing) Ltd, who according to Companies House were established in 1994 - 18 years ago, which casts some doubt on this "30 years" claim. I suspect that what they actually are is a business directory service, funded by clients who pay them a fee for introductions. Does anyone know more about them or how they operate? They don't seem short of testimonials, so they may well be good at what they do, but I get a little suspect when I get emails touting for business that appear to be using weasel-words.

My suggestion? Tell the learning support department they will have to keep reading it for now. The best-case scenario here is that you get a perfect OCR of the exam paper that is optimised for screen-readers, and have it read by a high-quality TTS engine. Even then, it will not be as good as having a real person reading it, and I suspect that the quality of the reader will make a difference to the pupil's performance. Getting that perfect OCR will also require expensive software if the exam board won't provide it - there is plenty of mediocre OCR software out there, but you will need a good one and they don't come cheap. When you cost it out you will probably end up spending more on the software than it costs to pay a person. tl;dr: we're not quite there yet in terms of technology.

They shouldn't be in the ADMX folder, they should be in the main folder, with the accompanying ADML files in the en-US folder. If all those files are in the correct place and you are still getting parse errors, then that suggests there is something wrong with them. Try downloading them again.

You're more likely to have problems with peripherals than software, in particular printer drivers. You'll need to have 64-bit drivers available and installed on the server for any of your shared printers you want the 64-bit clients to connect to. As for your above list, Audacity, Scratch, and Office will be fine. Don't be tempted to install the 64-bit version of Office, as it won't be compatible with a lot of plugins and even Microsoft recommend against using it unless you really need it (hint: you don't). I would be very surprised if OpenOffice had any problems, and CS5 should have no fewer problems than it does with anything else

If the AMDX files are in the right place, they should be in the Group Policy Editor under Policies\Administrative Templates: If they are missing, your domain may be using a central store for your policy definitions, so you might need to copy them to your SYSVOL folder.

Good to hear. Could you post the link to the driver you used for the next person who has the same problem?

What percentage of your staff do you think are capable of installing the drivers for a PCMCIA card? I wouldn't peg it at a particularly high number here... Asking for passwords is properly dodgy though. When I work on personal laptops and need access to their account, I ask the owner to remove the password temporarily. Knowing other people's passwords is a legal liability as far as I'm concerned, given the amount of password reuse.

You're right that it shouldn't cause this problem, but if it's RM support you are dealing with, their standard procedure is to blame your changes for everything. Like it or not, they are not going to help you until you put it back the way they want it. On the plus side, you don't need to have DHCP running on the WDS server for WDS to work. Mine is on a different server and works fine. You will need to configure options 66 and 67 on the existing DHCP server, and untick both options on the DHCP tab of the WDS server properties, but once this is done it should work. Option 066 should be set to the hostname or IP of the WDS server. Option 067 should (in the default config) be set to boot\x86\wdsnbp.com

H&S noise limits tend to be for occasional exposure, not constant noise. I know there's at least one EduGeeker here who has developed tinnitus form the constant noise of a server cabinet, despite it being under those "official limits". And in case anyone wasn't aware, tinnitus is largely untreatable. Approach SMT and explain to them this is a real risk, and gently point out that you aren't willing to risk acquiring a permanent disability from your workplace. A potential claim for hearing damage in a few years time will be much more expensive for them than providing you with a proper working environment. If they still won't listen to reason, contact your union.

If they were working on CC3 and not on Windows 7, it has to be a software issue. The drivers could affect it as a dodgy driver might not be applying the relevant tickbox settings (above) to the actual hardware before it enters sleep. Can you post the exact name of the card as it appears in device manager?

I'm considering the Galaxy Note myself, but have been tempted by the HTC One X now. I have a Dell Streak right now which has a 5.0" screen, so I can either go up to 5.4" with the Note or down to 4.7" with the HTC. I've never found the Streak to be too big, unless you have truly tiny pockets it will fit in pretty much anything. How much extra carp does the HTC come with? Mrs AT has a Galaxy S II and it annoyed me how Samsung couldn't leave anything alone: just to connect to Exchange we had to agree to additional Samsumg T&Cs for an app that was pretty much identical to the stock Android app. The fact that they require a cable connection for firmware upgrades was jarring too. For typing I use Thumb Keyboard, which in portrait sits the keyboard in half like a Microsoft Natural keyboard (and like the Windows 8 on-screen split keyboard), and fills the space in the middle with a numpad. Given that I use a Natural keyboard on both my home and work computers, it's perfect for me.

At a guess I would say it's probably some of the VBA components, most likely the common controls library. Try downloading this file: http://activex.microsoft.com/controls/vb6/mscomct2.cab and extract it anywhere, then right-click on the inf file and select 'Install'.

I tried the UNC path and it still crashed for me. Have you checked that your proxy still logs usernames after disabling auth? That's what I didn't want to lose, because I still want to know who's searching for rude words on Google.

The more serious practice of deliberately evading procurement/tender regulations is also in there, though it doesn't make for catchy headlines. I've worked in a school with a headteacher like this; someone who doesn't think the rules should apply because they know best. It's unfortunately not limited to academies either, though its prevalence is unsurprisingly linked to greater freedom from outside scrutiny.

Have you checked to see if you can find any newer drivers for the network card? Perhaps have a search for Intel model ID on http://downloadcenter.intel.com/
