One thing to remember in all of this is that many consumer protection laws do not apply to purchases made by business/organisations, only to personal consumers. I'm pretty sure this is one of them.

CPC supply the Vision TechConnect kit too. I've installed some of it here, especially the amps, and always used CPC as the supplier. The only reason I don't use more of it is due to preferring the downward facing ports on the Sahara boxes. Their amps are brilliant though, by wiring up the front and rear speakers in parallel we even get enough oomph out of them for our assembly hall!

All ours are desktops so they shouldn't need to touch the cabling. Anyone unscrewing projector cables here is liable to have screws applied to their thumbs.

Personally I use the Sahara wall box kits with an HMDI module added, as the connections face downwards to reduce stress, but they are a bit on the big side for some people. This looks like a nice sturdy one if you want a single gang box.

I'm upgrading from 11.10 on my laptop right now and it is taking FOREVER. I forgave the long download time, but I'm now on the install stage, which has been going for 2 hours and currently says "About 13 hours remaining". I never thought I'd find anything slower than an XP service pack install!

RM take it to extremes. My experience of Microsoft is they will only try to blame problems on your kit if it's at least vaguely relevant to the problem. RM literally told me my entire CC3 setup would be unsupported if I used any NAS for storage except the overpriced one they wanted to sell me.

When you enter the authentication credentials, the Authorized User field should be in the format DOMAIN\name, not CN=name,OU=etc,dc=DOMAIN. Only the Base DN field needs DN formatting. At least, that's how mine is set, and it works for me.

There's no reason it shouldn't work, but my experience with RM is that if you don't use the 'supported' method, they will use it as an excuse to shift blame if anything goes wrong with your network (even if the problem is clearly unrelated to virtualisation).

From the filename I think this was shot on a specialist in-car camera, something like the Gemini NCB-D200. They are pretty hard to get hold of (only place I know is imports via eBay) and I have no idea where to get the software separately. If it was shot on one of these, you may be out of luck. Not sure if this is exactly what you are after, but our staff are very fond of the free Boring Boring font - it's not actually fully joined but it uses the cursive shapes.

Well, ignoring all this talk about terms and the like, we've got a bigger problem for school use of the client tool. 1. As stated earlier in the thread, it doesn't support authenticated proxies. That makes it a PITA for many proxy filters including Smoothwall. If you disable auth that usually means you lose the user logging for the affected domains, and given that the affected domains include "www.google.com", there's no way I'm disabling auth for that. 2. While you can choose the sync directory, it doesn't work on network shares. It will let you pick a network share, but it will break immediately: That means each user would be syncing to the local C: drive, which means it will a) fill up the C: drive very quickly on shared machines, and b) destroy your bandwidth due to the resync every time they move computers. -1 to Google (and everyone else really) for not considering anything other than 1:1 or consumer use, as usual.

I have never seen that before. Just "\LOCAL"? Not "NT AUTHORITY\LOCAL" or something?

Bizarrely it used to work fine for us without BES, but packed up around Christmas. Now we can get it to work on some Blackberry phones, but those who get it to work end up receiving all their email on their phone 3 times. These days I just tell people to go away and come back when they have a real smartphone.

Have you called the exam board and asked them for a recommendation? Because frankly, if they don't have a recommended solution, they shouldn't be making it a requirement.

The other possible difference, which nobody has mentioned yet, is the RPM of the drive. It's more common on laptops, but even some older 3.5" drives will only be 5400RPM, while almost all new 3.5" drives are at least 7200RPM, which makes a big difference even without a change from IDE to SATA.

Those of you on a BT Infinity line (or another BT FTTC service resold through another provider) may recall that BT announced a little while ago they would be upping the max speed from 40mbps to around 80mbps. Well, we got an email through from Zen Internet today about ours: One word: NICE. We currently get extremely close to the 40/10 speeds as the phone line into the server room is apparently only about 100m from the street cabinet, so we should stand a good chance of hitting the max speeds when they upgrade. Anyone else heard anything about their FTTC line being automatically upped or are we in an early batch?

It sounds like they definitely have more than just regular domain user privileges. Check the local Administrators group on the workstation to see what AD groups are given membership.

If you want it to be at all successful you need to make sure it only pops up when the message changes, and once dismissed, does not pop up again until the next change. If it pops up at every login, people will quickly learn that it's not relevant and ignore it. People are very good at clicking OK on things without reading them (i.e. every error message that ever pops up).

What SYNACK said. Check that the below option is ticked on the network card in Device Manager. Our RM ecoquiets have it inexplicably unticked by default after a fresh install (every other model computer we have has it ticked).

Have you tried the wake from PCI option? That might do it anyway, as the network card will be run through the PCI bus.

Mostly it comes down to permission. Parents/guardians must be asked for consent for pictures and names to be published. If you have consent for full names with photos, there should be no legal issue. If you don't have consent for full names with photos, then the school should not be releasing them to the paper for publication either!

Very cool camera trickery. It works because the frequency of the drops is the same as the camera frame rate: if you were watching it live, it wouldn't appear to 'freeze' at 24Hz or move backward at 23Hz, you'd just see drops falling. But because the camera is shooting at 24fps, every time it samples the 24Hz wave droplets falling, there is a drop in exactly the same spot. At 23Hz, they haven't quite reached the same position yet so appear to move backward.

There are no settings on that page that stop others from comment on posts the page owner makes. The only thing you can stop is other people making new posts altogether, which is what you've done. Ours is set up exactly like that, and if the school makes a post, others can comment on it.

I'm amused by how SWGfL connections show up as SOUTH WEST GRID FOR ***, as if 'grid for learning' is a dirty phrase.
