I suspect it may be that the events aren't running often enough to catch the exact second that you're looking for, as the timer event only runs itself one per second. If the event is just 1ms late (which is perfectly plausible), you'll miss your target. Lose the seconds check and just evaluate whether the hour and minute are the same. You can fire your timer less often that way too (maybe once every 30s). I have to ask though, why not just use a scheduled task to do this?

Only if you don't open anything in between! If you Win+D, then double-click an icon on the desktop and open a program, the next Win+D will just minimise that program and give you the desktop again. My basic point is that if you want to open a program and maintain all your other programs, the best way to do that is the Start Menu. Relying on desktop icons forces you to disrupt your workspace.

Schools Agreement & EES only cover a single organisation. If the equipment is no longer the legal property of the school, it is not covered. You cannot transfer the licence. Similarly, if the staff are no longer school employees, you do not need to include them in the staff count for licences (because they aren't covered). The use of your servers is also complicated because the equipment they are using no longer has valid Client Access Licenses (CALs) for your server. I advise you talk to a Microsoft licensing specialist to find out how best to proceed. There are a few companies on here that should be able to help; hopefully they will pipe up, otherwise have a squint at some of the many software licensing threads on the forums to get an idea of who's in the game.

Without a magic key to get everything restored exactly as it was before, this doesn't really solve the problem, it just makes the problem faster to accomplish.

Tim, thanks for stopping in to clarify what's going on, but I think you need to go back and have a serious talk without someone about these changes, because they don't make things better. If Microsoft thinks that Home & Student is all a GCSE/A-Level student will need, it just further demonstrates what I've suspected for some time now: Microsoft does not really understand schools. The decision with EES to define "full time" staff as anyone who works more than 6 hours a week was a pretty big giveaway, and this really does cement it. The package that Microsoft are calling Office University should be available to all students. I understand that if you guys are working to expanding the take-up of these discounts (which is great) then the price may need to go up, but to make that discount unavailable to pre-university students does not meet the needs of customers better.

I'm still torn on the whole tile system myself, but the big difference is that you won't have to minimise/close every program currently open in order to get to a tile.

Sounds like you got it sorted though. Not sure why you had trouble finding the unixUserPassword attribute, but any confidential attribute should work. I was trying to avoid schema changes to an existing attribute, but changing employeeNumber should work just fine.

Good piont - make sure you have a business provision. We use Zen Internet who resell the FTTC product that BT call 'BT Infinity'. That has business level SLAs and usage allowances, along with a fixed IP. Many other companies can provide the same.

Bonding is certainly complicated, but as Tom says, load balancing is just a case of having the right router on premises. If your goal is to provide decent speed to many users (rather than top-notch speed to a single user), it should work pretty well, though contention may be an issue during peaks times, as sonofsanta suggested. Worth remembering that the linespeed available on BT Infinity is due to go up anyway in the next year or so.

Why waste that time? Having a second disk isn't exactly onerous. Also the rebuild time will depend on how complicated your WSUS structure is. I have 20+ computer groups set up and all our software installs done through WSUS using Local Update Publisher, so I would haver to recreate all of those too (along with the correct approvals).

It's always good practice to separate your OS install from the data part of the server. If the OS is on a separate disk/partition, you run much less risk of the server being crippled if the data store unexpectedly fills the allocated space. Definitely fixed size for the OS, though I think you could get away with dynamically expanding for the WSUS data store. I would only do it if you are pushed for space on the host though, and even then you will need to be careful about it not expanding too large.

If this is what I think it is, its because those machines affected are trying to to a background group policy refresh. GPO software installation only occurs for on a synchronous foreground refresh. Normally the workstation will then force itself to do a foreground refresh on the next reboot. If that's not happening, that's unusual. Test it by issued a gpupdate /target:computer /sync /boot command and see if the install goes through.
