oops forgot to say share permissions on the E:\Users folder is "Everyone" - full control

Any help with this people would be great! The Problem :- We have a shared drive (U: ) that staff can access this is the root share of all redirected home folders. Staff have the Traverse Folder\Execute permission and read to the Students subfolder. This coupled with Access Based Enumeration has always enabled staff to access the student folder and gather coursework etc. The issue is as follows, now whenever they doubleclick on the U: we get "access denied" now I have just come across this myself quite by accident, and no-one is moaning yet. I am the only one with admin access, after looking in my log no permissions have been changed since the system went in 2 years ago and I've confirmed with staff that they could access student folders via the U: The Setup:- (from the server) E:\Users - Shared as Users$ set up through DFS as \\domainname\dfssharename$\Users the permission on the E:\Users folder is as follows Administrators - Full Control SYSTEM - Full Control GG_StaffGroup - Traverse Folder/Execute GG_StudentGroup - Traverse Folder/Execute within the E:\Users folder are three subfolders these are E:\Users\Staff E:\Users\Students E:\Users\AdminUsers Permissions Staff folder are Administrators - Full Control SYSTEM - Full Control GG_StaffGroup - Traverse Folder/Execute with staff having modify on their own subfolder Permissions for Students Folder are Administrators - Full Control SYSTEM - Full Control GG_StaffGroup - Modify GG_StudentGroup - Traverse Folder/Execute Is there anything thats immediatley obvious as to why this isn't now working!!! if i change the mapping to \\domainname\dfsshare\users\students it maps fine and they can access it without issue, but why would it stop working!!! a similiar thing to what i had to do in a previous post. A teacher in a class used a lower level account with shortcuts to scripts that mapped a drive (basic "net use x"), they then had to enter their "higher" level account info (one was surnameinitial the other was initialsurname) that was a member af the higher level staff group that had access to the shard area/drive in question. Also higher level of logging on that area.. Not quiet what your after but similar?

The problem we have is the unit isn't a "mainstream" school and when I asked the LEA MIS Support about adding custom fields to the MIS (SIMS.net) I just got a "No it can't be done" hence this method. Now it's a while since I had anything major to do with SIMS.net so I took them at their word (I knew that was my first mistake!). If anyone has some pointers into adding custom fields into SIMS.net for the pupil contact then thats great, other then that I could do with the web front end and the db doing..

Hi can anyone suggest a company/person who's able to design/code a basic "pupil contact recording system" in classic asp running from an Access db. It's to be hosted internally on Server 2003R2. I would normally do it but due to the daily stuff I'm rapidly running out of time!! It's to record any contact that the staff have with a pupil and or any agencies involved with a pupil. Not sure if this should be in wed dev or coding! TIA

AFAIK theres no order in transferring the roles over, I'd do that task first, make sure you yick the box in sites and services that make the new server a Global Catalo, you'll have issue logging on if you dont! once thats done it will just be case of migrating your mail stores.

bloody hell, used to work in two bolton schools and attended a MS course or two taught by the op. Hope they realise what they're doing!!! I stopped being a Union Rep in Bolton bc the support you got from Bolton Branch was awful! IOt doesn't suppise me they bent over for the council. Good luck!

use the local gp to tell it to use your WSUS server (if you have one) to pick up the updates, if its pulling the IP from your DHCP it should be told where the DNS is, if not as amentioned use the IP address where the WSUS resides in the 'specify intranet Microsoft Update location' field found in Computer Config > Administrative templates > Windows Update

We had one do the same thing, twas the microswitch, we did get a local company to provide a quote but it was over £100 to do so we used it for spares, we just did some googleing/asking around to get a printer servicer/repairer. HP will also do it for you - you just need to find the right bit on their website. they've fixed two printers for free that where out of warranty, thing there might have been some issues with the design... worth a try?

if your serving a website through apache in xammp or through IIS in XP then as stated the 10 user limit doesn't come into play
