Today marks the last school day of Tamarside Community College, from september the 1st we become the Marine Academy Plymouth, alot of old staff came in yesterday to join in the celebrations but i feel today will be far more melancholy due to the amount of staff who are leaving us. Its a time of change, big change, with a complete overhaul of the staffing structure, school day, curriculum and more. Tamarside has been open for 21 years and theres a number of staff still here who have been here from the start. Kids are dismissed at 12:30 today then staff have the last supper and speeches from 1pm with a booze cruise arrange from 4pm. I myself was a student here, spent 6 years hear and for the most of it really enjoyed it, ive spent a futher 9 years as staff and its been a rocky path with alot of changes but even more so now, we have an incredible amount of work this summer, so much so that the 4 of us have each cancelled our individual leave in order to get the work done. The overhaul of the school starts soon where everything Tamarside related is being removed including the last 20 years worth of framed yr11 photos which were mounted in a corridor and are no longer needed (read wanted) every display on every wall are being removed, the Academy really want nothing to do with the History of this place, which is a shame.

For those of you who have administered Macs for sometime a fair number will have come across Hi-Resolutions and their product MacAdministrator. I have the unhappy notice to post which has come from one of their mailing lists. http://www.hi-resolution.com/ Truly the end of an era.

Well thats it as of the 31st January 2008 I will be leaving education for good. As a lot of you are aware I'm being made redundant from 1 of my schools on the 31st December. My other school had orginally offered to up my hours but have since changed their minds stating that they could not justify the increased costs and were very sorry. Iwas going to hand my notice in at the beginning of Decmeber but after the problems I have had today i decided to bring it forward. After doing the sums wioth my girl friend, we worked out that after paying my bills that I would be left with £64 a month to pay for the simple luxuries one needs like food. So I have decided to give up work entirely and move in with her as she has epilepsy and her fits are getting worse, which means that she needs somene with her as she is not supposed to go out on her own. The thing being we are going to better off if I do this than carry on working which to me is a crazy situation. I won't won't be leaving IT entirely though as I'm looking into doing a bit of voluntary work to keep my hand in and I probably drop by here from time to time.
