Redcare lines back in the day were dedicated lines for such purposes without the interuption i.e. say you had a red care line for a lift but it was linked to your fax machines and someone pressed the button when a fax was coming it they could end up stuck in lift for longer, same with the alarm. When Redcare expanded they went to the like of 4G solutions but no they are getting rid of the lot. The line benefitted from having a higher SLA due to its use. What you need to be checking is what your ARC can recieve, most will be setup to recieve via data weather that be 4G or IP. Back in the day it used to play a message if I am right so be worth speaking to your alarm supplier and ARC.

Even if you do have a VOIP system you could in theory just plug the line into an ATA and use that, same if you host your own PBX that goes via a SIP trunk in theory it would all work would it not?

Redcare is closing down their service in 2025. My security firm I use for bits binned them over 15 years ago and has been using SIM card based systems since which are far cheaper, obviously you have your subscription but its cheaper than their monthly costs. Recommendation is 4G/5G based offerings, many do have option to plug into the network and communicate over IP. Communicating over IP comes at no monthly cost for that side of things if using existing infrastructure, then you just pay what ever monthly fees to the ARC. Everything is IP based now weather it be SIM or wired connection.

AoVPN setup and use them at home like you do in school, simplest option. Everything is available at home like it is at school over the VPN.

Yeah does seem to be one of the PatchBox ones, at the cost of them I will manage as is, if I was doing it day in day out I might but cannot justify the cost. I work across multiple sites swapping kit out so would be more use there, no space in our server room for a scissor lift kit rarely gets swapped to.

I was flicking through Instagram as you do and this popped up. Anyone know that they are using to rest the switch on when mounting, I've not seen one before but it would be a life saver when working in cabinets. I've looked on a few sites but unable to find anything that bares any resemblance.

They still going strong then Rob? I know I did them the year before I left so either been replaced or up again soon. On the topic of consumable ordering most will only take meter readings and order toners when using a utility, if you setup the email alerts on machines they can often do waste toners, staples I never seen that on any but stand to be corrected. If your supplier doesn't have a utility what I would recommend is setup email alerts to email you/your helpdesk and manage the workflow so you know they have arrived and can manage it. My advice with waste boxes, keep one on the shelf or two, then as you put one in order the next. With staples they tend to come in boxes of 3 so tricky for the machine to know what you have on the shelf.

I use a mix of both, both do the job but there are some quirks to the the Unifi kit, Aruba is my preferred and the warranty is the winner, had a few Aruba ones that have had some issues and they have been swapped out with no issues, with the lifetime warranty (well not infinite but defined on date period which I cannot recall off the top of my head) that wins hands down for me but depends what environment you are using them in.

I've used various ones over the years but also installed and removed many too. Personally for me its Sharp any day, they are the most user friendly machine, come with more features out the box, integrates really well to PaperCut that anyone could do it. Toshiba are a good solid machine and would quite happily use them but for me personally their user interface and web page just let it down but the touch screen is second to none its responsive, both are solid build machines too. Availability of any machines parts can be due to supply chain issues and there have been some of them and could well be in the future but if you use a good quality paper not the cheap recycled stuff and have them in a good environment they will keep going. I have 40+ Sharp's on my current estate, some are now on their 2nd or 3rd replacement over the last 10-12 years, we've had ours monies worth out of them. I must of installed in the region of 2000+ Sharp machines in a 8 year period back when I was doing them in a previous job, just features like unable to remove the toner till its physically empty stops them been swapped between machines just silly little things put them ahead of the game. Toshiba may slightly be better print if you wanted either in a professional print room but for the majority you cannot tell the difference.

We moved from Aruba to Unifi based on cost. Both have pros and cons. License costs were big part of it, Unifi does what we want, about 40 sites several hundred AP's, as found recently if wanting to make changes have to do it 40 times rather than just once but other than that they are solid.

I buy mine in packs of 10 from a local battery supplier, I don't pay much for my pack's of ten but cannot remember as its only now and again. Be worth checking your local battery supplier, might find it works out cheaper. I now get all my AA/AAA stuff from them as well as my big truck batteries, don't enterain the idea of anywhere else! If you don't have anyone local give them a shout, they may ship out.

I had issues similiar but not with PaperCut when the security was too high, on the P2P IP we use as part of our VPN we had to set the MTU to 1492 for it to work, may pay if you can to try your tunnel with the high security and if it allows you to set the MTU lower see if that helps, it may not but worth a try if you can. If its working now then leave it as it is just one of them annoying things.

I have had that before if the encryption is set too high, often have to tweak the MTU too to allow it to work without issue.

The only physical serves we have are our hosts now, everything is virtual.

Under Sharp OSA what version are you running? It's on the first screen when you go into the OSA config on the copier? DO you have it set to Wide SVGA under the 2 links which are correct?

Sorry not been on here today, will have a look in the morning as I am doing an upgrade on my PaperCut will double check the settings as I cannot remember them off the top of my head now.

How has PaperCut been deployed to the Sharp's, via PaperCut or manually? What are the 2 application URL's that are on the copiers, are they still using port 9191 or another? I've installed 1000's of Sharp machines with PaperCut, only seen something similar as a result of mis configuration.

Is anything else affected when this happens, is remote file access hindered at the same time or is it just PaperCut? If you run a constant ping from the remote site to your PaperCut server is there any drops, in particular when this happens. What copiers are you using? Is it all of them or just certain ones? What make firewall you using?

Get yourself one of these, there are others available but plug it in and see what codes come up. I used to have to clear a code on my car which had an ECU issues it was part of my start up process but now just keep it in the case just incase. Not in depth but gives you an idea of what an issue could be.

I never use photo papers in laser printers just a higher stock paper such as 120 or 160 gram paper, you get a nice result on that.

We have probably 750+ handsets out there in this same setup and have no issues. As most of our sites are remote the link to each site back to data centre is no more than this and most stuff is over the internet it hasn't cause any issues. Unless you are copying large amounts of data no one would notice. The amount of switch capacity it saves us is unreal, does help we are moving areas over to softphones but there are still need for handsets out there. What we have done where ports are limited and desktop needs that connection is to piggy back the printer or other device off the phone instead.

WinAuth that can put used on PC's and generate the codes. Saves digging around for a mobile phone if you are near it.
