Evening People, I'm looking to get some sort of device for storing my media - films/music/tv progs etc and connecting it to my TV. My wife also wants it to store our pictures so it can be used to distribute to our wireless digital picture frame. Ideally it would also hold all my music for sending over to iTunes (through the wireless router). What would you guys suggest? A small Media PC running Windows 7? What software? What do you guys do for this sort of thing - if anything. Look forward to reading your replies, Gareth

I've had them a few times - each time they claim they are from a company representing various UK broadband companies - Sky, BT etc. They tell me they can tell my machine has got a virus and need to connect to clean it for me or else my broadband would be turned off. This is where being in the know can help - I told them I had an iPad connected and didn't own a computer. They kept going so I asked for the name of the virus. He was quite persistant so in the end I started laughing at him and asking him IT questions to which he couldn't answer. In the end I hung up. Gareth

I know I'm probably stating the obvious but if you have issues this evening updating to iOS5 then be aware that the Apple servers are sloooooow. It's taken me 6 attempts to update my iPhone4 this evening. It's finally done it but several timeouts, server errors (3004 and (0xE800065). The Apple website is useless at explaining them. The internet is awash with people moaning about it. So be aware - it will take time but it will get done. Best wishes, GJE

As I said to @nephilim last night - enough talk people. Go and sign up to Computing at School and get involved in shaping or lobbying for a new Computing curriculum. Neither teachers nor technicians are going to change things - it has to be the SMT pushing upwards. I agree. The pupils they chose were not the best. In addition I didn't like the point that most ICT Teachers do not have relevant degrees. I do not have an ICT/Computing degree but it doesn't make me less able - yet this is the impression I got. Maybe the full film will be a bit better. Gareth

No answer - shame. We are about to look into this as well. Going from a 2003r2 server to a 2008R2 server. I think I am going to back it all up and then upgrade all 32 bit drivers before adding all the 64bit drivers. Then I shall use the migration tool - which doesn't mention 2008R2. I think our school would look at the following: Replace some older switches Tidy up our cabinet wiring - time is the cost here Install a wireless network Consolidate some servers - possibly virtualise what we can. This would mean purchasing one or two new/recon 64 bit servers. Tidy up our backup routine (new software) Get another technician so the current one could be promoted and I could resign as netman. Whilst not in the same league we also had WDS with 3 images. EVentually I got fed up of new machines arriving and drivers being injected. So we upgraded our server to 2008R2 and followed the MDT2010 path. We now have 1 Windows 7 Enterprise image with driver packages allocated to different machines. It takes up less space and works. Not entirely true. Taken from the Sib website: If you want to install the huge sound library then this is what they say: You can use it on lesser hardware but.... So you can use Vista. Gareth

On your test machine at the RUn command enter the command again but put it in "" so it looks like this (also there is a space in your path). "\\server\msi_installs\Sibelius_7\Installer\Sibelius702b8.exe /SERIAL=SCMM123456789101112 /LSINFO=MUSICPC-01:7314 /SILENT" YOu also forgot the slash / before the LSINFO [For some reason the forum is putting a space in the Sibelius702b8.exe title] Gareth

Are you entering a network license key? I'm not sure how the keys work - but I guarantee the one above that I used worked fine. Gareth

Well believe it or not you can indeed. On the DVD in the Sibelius directory there is a file called Sibelius7installer.exe and you install that silently with the command: \Sibelius\Sibelius7Installer.exe /SERIAL= LSINFO= /SILENT We downloaded the Sibelius702b8 Full Installer from the website and dropped it into the same directory. The command then changed to: \Sibelius\Sibelius702b8.exe /SERIAL= LSINFO= /SILENT It then installed fine. However if you have already installed the first version I advise you take if off before putting on the new version. If you cannot be bothered to do this there is a second download file which you can install over the original which will upgrade. For new machines without Sibelius I would follow the first method. Just to let people know - don't use the version 7 on the DVD - download the 702b8 update from their website and use that to install. A lot faster. Gareth

No - we haven't installed the 3 x DVDs which hold the sounds. I'm not sure if we will need to - I'll report back if the Head of Music complains :-) Some changes made this morning might help you... We downloaded the Sibelius708b8 full update today. We updated the 20 machines that had been the test install and the speed increase on load was amazing. Definately noticable. So we have now updated our MDT2010 to offer the option to install Sibelius 7. It works - we are happy. Gareth
