@sonofsanta - Thanks for asking the questions. I'd been considering the same thing as it's in the plans I have been putting together for the next year. Our LEA provide a third domain called GuestNet - this allows pupils the opportunity to use their personal learning devices when the need arises. I'd not thought of an AUP until I read your post - but have now asked the LEA if they have one. Our LEA are linked to Aruba Networking and it is their kit we will be using. A central controller is connected to satellite controllers in the schools. All seems to work from what I've discussed with other schools in Swansea. Gareth

Shared desktop location and GPO for shortcuts on desktop - this page tells me it cannot be done in a user context by design. Gareth

Yes - but we want to use one set of folder redirection directories and then add icons if a user or machine is part of a security group. This would save having hundreds of different folders for various desktops and users. For example we could have one simple redirected desktop but then various GPP settings for DT machines that are part of the DT security group - which then places DT icons on the desktop. The same with ICT - ICT icons on the desktop and so on for different subjects. Cheers Gareth

Good morning, We have a mandatory desktop which is a redirected folder. Permissions are that staff cannot write or modify this desktop. Every staff has the same (you guys know what I mean). Now I have used GPP to create a shortcut on that desktop for SIMS. I've used Item Level Targetting for machines in the SIMS security group to receive that icon yet because they are mandatory desktops with no write access the shortcut does not appear. If I change security to write/modify then the icon is created - but the staff member can add new icons and files which get saved back to the server. Naturally we do not want this. Is there anyway item level targetting and shortcut creation will work without modify/write permissions? Cheers Gareth

I've just sent out IE9 across the network and we are seeing a weird issue this morning where when a pupil/staff member opens IE9 the main window opens with two panes - one the browser window and the other showing the drives. I'm looking through the .adm file but cannot see where I would stop this happening. Anyone seen this or got any ideas? Cheers Gareth

Interesting - so they can still detect them? I've been offered an xbox with iXtreme LT+ v2.0 - never been a fan of 360s (I'm a PS3 fanboy). Just wondered what other people had done. Can the chips not be turned off these days? The missus is interested in Kinect. Gareth

Evening People, Before I begin my research I thought I'd ask here if anyone has modded their xbox with a softmod? Or does it need a chip fitted - has anyone done this? Is it easy? I softmodded my wii the other year and it's great but am not sure where to look for xbox stuff. Cheers Gareth

The original poster was happy to put up 2003 reports so would they back it up with later reports? Interesting read. I've been looking at XBMC on my Mac and it looks pretty cool - and seems to be what I want - especially if it can be used as a media server across the network and somewhere to store things. So I need a machine to run it on - with backup. 2 x 2Tb drives that mirror each other? Connectable to my TV - TV has a VGA input, the two HDMI sockets are taken. Does it need to be a fast machine? I've not looked into running films yet, just storing music and pictures. All the better if they can he played across the network. Well I don't know what to do. Plenty of advice on here. I've decided that it is a media server I need to store everything. I've spent the afternoon ripping my old CDs and the wife has been sorting our photos on various storage devices (hard drives, usb hard drives, dvds etc). There are a lot out there but are so expensive - still I suppose you cannot put a price on personal items like photos. Arghghgh - what do purchase... I like the QNAPP devices - the QNAP TS-219P+ is reasonable but I do like the TS-419P+ but the price is what out of my league. It's the iTunes server that is bugging me the most. Yes it can play over the network, but I cannot see if I can drag and drop tunes from the server to my phone - or will I have to link the Library as well and transfer over the network? Decisions, decisions. Gareth

Thanks for making it the show that it is. What sort of money do people pay for stands at BETT? I assume it goes by floorspace. The Microsoft/Apple/RM stands probably cost a fortune whilst the little ones one the edges less. What about internet/network connections - how does that work? Gareth

This is a pain, but I've mapped a NAS share to my MBP and set it up so it keeps the connection even after a restart. Yet the damn finder window keeps opening. I've set the Hide flag in the 'Users and Groups' > 'Login Items' - yet it still shows up. Surely it cannot be that hard. Gareth

This looks nice - it also does what I want it to do. One quick question - if I purchased one of these and used the iTunes Server to store my music (a lot of it) will it still let me drag and drop onto my iphone? (that is a relly dumb question I know). Gareth
