Done most of that. WHole process is failing on 'Sync'd our students' - my server cannot see the AzureAD for some reason. Have checked firewalls etc etc but nothing seems to be going through. Frustrating today. I'm in a foul mood. GJE

@tekins : Yes that's good thanks. We've registered our domain now with MS. The TXT record has been added to our LEA hosted DNS and it has been verified. However we do not have ADFS in place yet. So based on what you say it looks like I need to setup every user individually as O365 will not see our AD at the moment. It will when the LEA finish their testing but that could be a while off. We get the same error message on that site too. Still waiting for the Faculty download to be setup. Gutted there is no self-enrolement at the moment.

I have the pupil licenses all in place through our EES - but cannot find the self-registration portal page for pupils to login and sort it themselves. At the moment it looks like I will have to add all 800 pupils :-( - Not a good idea. GJE

I've managed to find the Student version in our licensing centre. I've activated it and have managed to get into the O365 portal. However the only versions listed there are for Tablet and Phone. There is no PC version to allocate to the kids. This is what I am concerned about... We do not have an O365 tenancy so I have setup a temporary one using the details MS suggested .onmicrosoft.com This has worked. However if I want the pupils and staff to self register then this isn't the email domain they use. They have @yggwyr.swansea.sch.uk . This domain name is registered with our LEA and they host our email. Is it possible to setup this domain name with O365 but not have the email component? We do the same with Google for Education (all the services but no email). I've asked the LEA to add the TXT record to our DNS - but again am concerned that our email will break. My Supplier is looking at the Faculty offering. Also - (sorry) - what address do the pupils go to when self registering? I assume this can only be done when the DNS is changed and MS recognise our official school domain. Any further advice welcome. Yes - Hyper-V is free (get the Datacentre edition of Windows 2012r2) - buy a couple of books and learn how to do it. @rich_tech sorted ours out and saved us a fortune. GJE

For machines you could look to someone like ict-direct.co.uk and buy refurbished HP machines - doubling your investment. An extra £10 per machine will put a three year warranty on them. We've had great service from ict-direct and would not consider buying a new machine without looking at our refurbished options first. GJE

@tmcd35 : I'm managing to publish the apps and eventually I can 'Update' the client app to see the newest .appv additions but how does it do this if I to not have the client? We do not use SCCM - LEA will not allow it. Gareth

@Arthur : Oohhhh hang on - it must not happen straight away. All of a sudden the other two apps have appeared. Quicktime is being an idiot though. Do these things happen automatically if the client is not installed? GJE

@Arthur : I'm not getting this at all. I must be missing something. This is what I have done: 1. Installed the client - just to give me some sort of indication what is going on 2. Run some PowerScript files to register the client (do these need to be run if the client is not installed?) 3. Sequenced an app and it has appeared in the client. I've managed to run the app. 4. Sequence a second app and add it to the console - but it refuses to add to the client window despite setting the access settings (Domain Users) etc 5. Tried a sync-appvpublishingserver command - It asks which server, I enter a number (2) and expect it to sync - but alas it doesn't. Only the first app is there still. Any advice you can offer? Ohhhh well that makes sense. So what am I missing to get software on the machines? Need to read some more. Where does the user see the installed or available software? I've sussex everything else except the client side. Gareth

I've been looking into App V today. The server is up and running and I've captured an application. I've installed the client onto a machine. Here I stop. I simply cannot find what to do next. Is the client meant to be visible? Is there a shortcut? I found the installation directory with some .exe files in there but that is it. Any help appreciated. This is the non-RDS version of App-V. 5.0 SP3. Thanks Gareth

Evening, I have our school website running the latest Wordpress. It's going well, running on @EduTech servers. But I'm always looking for a better template. So I'm wondering if I can have two installations of Wordpress, but using the content from the main database (if that makes sense) - so the dev website uses the main template data? Is it just a case of referencing the mysql server and the database name? Cheers all, Gareth

Hi Guys Sorry to bother you all. ESTYN have asked that we provide risk assessments for our departments – of course I now have to put one together. Seems a bit silly to me that an Admin task like this falls to teachers – but so be it. I have a H&S policy – but would anyone know of any Risk Assessment stuff that is ready made that I can adapt?
