[mdt] Running an MDT Task Sequence via Command Line
garethEds replied to garethEds's topic in O/S Deployment
Anyone? WHat about powershell? -
We've just sent some HP devices for recycling but they would have lasted a lot longer if MS had not insisted W11 needed certain security stuff. These devices were HP600/800 G1 (and G2) devices. They run W11 fine when built from MDT. I've kept some but others are going to be recycled. Just got to hope that the 30 I have in one room all last.

Hi All, Is there a way of running an MDT task sequence for an inplace upgrade via the command line? Cheers Gareth

Evening All, My daughter has an XBox One S and it's linked to my parental control account. Everything seems to be working as it should. However, she has received a £15 Fortnight voucher which we are having trouble renewing. The accounts all seem correct.... 1. She has an Epic Games/Fortnite account. 2. She has a Microsoft/XBox account to which the console is registered. 3. Both accounts have the same email address. We have to link the two accounts to redeem the voucher. We are trying to do this via the Epic Games/Fortnite website but when we enter the MS/XBox email address we are told that: "Your Xbox network account was connected with another Epic Games account. Please log in using a different XBox network account, or switch to another Epic Games account." It's not - but how can I find out which Epic account her xbox network account is allegedly linked to? Any help appreciated. Many thanks Gareth

Hi - I've found I can do it possibly through Group Policy Modelling so in the middle of trying that. Gareth

No - I don't think that was it. It looked very much like a log that you could read in CMTrace. I need to see how fast each bit of the startup process is taking. I'm sure it's drive mappings. Would there be anything in the event log do you think? Gareth

Evening All, Many years ago I'm sure I saw a piece of software that recorded and logged a machines logon/startup times. We have an issue where log on time from password to desktop has increased. I don't know why. I think the LEA may have removed a drive and the machine is going hunting for it - but I need to collect the evidence before I nag them about it. Does anyone know of this software that will measure the different stages of logon and put them into a log file or table/graph etc? Many thanks Gareth

Afternoon All, Not quite education software, but does anyone here use software that creates email (HTML) based newsletters? I get a lot of newsletters that look really nice through email and just wondered what the companies are using to create them. They also always link to a web browser version. Does anyone do this? Has anyone done this? I'm interested to know, Cheers Gareth

Evening All, Has anyone had an issue downloading Office 2024 LTSC via the "setup.exe /download configfile.xml" method? It starts working, creates directories called 'Office\Data' and downloads two files (v64.cab and v65_16.0.17932.20130) and creates a version directory 16.0.17932.20130 It then stops and ends the download with that version directory being empty. The .xml file - I have tried two ways. Adapting the one I used for 2021 and also creating a new one using the .xml file creator that Microsoft supply - but always the same issue. 2021 downloads fine. 365 downloads fine. Just 2024 stops. I feel I am probably missing something. Cheers Gareth

I like that - bit out of school price range - but otherwise looks brilliant

Hi all, Bit random - but has anyone got an electric standing desk? Due to a problem with my hips and having to sit and work a lot more, I've been given permission to get a hight adjustable sit/stand desk. Not sure what to get - has to be on Amazon. So - anyone used one? Cheers Gareth

Tell me more about Meta Business? What are other schools doing to manage their social media? - - - Updated - - - I'm interested to know why you don't think X is safe these days? Not looking to judge or make a decision. Gareth

Good morning, Happy New Term everyone :-) Are any schools using any sort of social media management software? I've been asked to research what is out there so where best to start than ask here. Many thanks Gareth

PaperCut - Not printing from Office 365
garethEds replied to garethEds's topic in Enterprise Software
Yes - that comes up and we can see the printer we are sending too. Just never hits the queue or the logs. GJE -
Good afternoon, Whilst we are waiting for our MFD/PaperCut support contract to renew (change suppliers etc) I've had a problem brought to me that I need help with. Users cannot print from Word Online. I am aware Word Online turns the file into a pdf, but then nothing happens. It doesn't even reach the printer queue. Checking the logs..... nothing in the logs. Downloading the file into 'Full' Word lets the user print. I feel I'm missing something obvious here, but cannot see what. Any help appreciated, Gareth

Not in NPT are you?
-
Thank you both for your honest replies and feedback. It's exactly how I feel. I've not tried Google for managing Windows devices as Welsh Government offer InTune/Autopilot for free to schools. I'm just experimenting, but there are so many red lines that need to be worked through before it gets pushed out to the school(s). Gareth
-
Afternoon, I'm having a tough time getting my head around the thinking for InTune. I understand it and that is possibly the way forward, but going from shared machines where settings are downloaded depending on usertype on logon over to pupil/staff dedicated machines is troubling me. How have others got over this? On-site is a lot more flexible. I'm interested in how others think or changed their thinking. Gareth
-
HI there - that's probably the way forward but I have to show that I've looked at things ;-) Gareth

Thanks @Steve21 - Just catching up with Edugeek posts. All sorted. Gareth

Morning All, Due to rising costs and a reduced budget I'm having to look at all our software purchases. Veeam is my current focus. We backup 3 physical servers (HyperV nodes) and 10-15 virtual servers. Veeam does what we want and works, but what else is out there being used by you all? Let me know, Cheers Gareth

Afternoon all - so I've fixed it. A totally random thing but it's fixed. When I entered the FQDN of the SQLExpress server into MDT it would not connect. It could not find it - so has to be DNS yes? This is despite the SQLExpress installation running on the same IP address as the MDT installation. MDT finds the share \\\MDTDeploy without any issues. When connecting to the database, SQL could not find it at all. So I changed the FQDN to the IP Address and hey ho - it connected to SQLExpress straight away. Now why has this happened? It was working fine one day and then not the other. DNS is fine - names/ip addys are all in there. That is for another day - it's working now - so thanks everyone for their input. Gareth
-
I'm confused - where do I setup a database in MDT if I am not using an SQL Server? Where are you putting your machine names?
-
Hi Martin, If I use the inbuilt one how will I get my data back in from the backup? Gareth
