  1. We pay £60 per pupil but depending on level of service somewhere between £60 - £120.
  2. If you are talking about ICT Managed Service cost, then the answer is yes. They have a number of different levels of service - we currently pay £60 per pupil on roll, but you can also pay £90 / £120.
  3. I have worked in two special schools for over 10 years; ideally you are best to stick with one or two pieces of software. Firstly, this allows staff to become familiar with the software and understand how best it can be used to meet the needs of each individual pupil. Secondly, for children with SEN there is a need for consistency in their teaching and learning; so if staff have to familiarise themselves with too many pieces of software they are unlikely to provide the pupils with the best experience and then they loose interest. You already use one of the best pieces of software, Clicker 5; however, as mentioned Symwriter (word processing) and Communicate InPrint (more like Publisher with symbols) are both good and compliment each other for doing different tasks. You are best speaking to some of the teaching staff that take pupils with SEN to see what the differing needs of the chidren are before you make any decision.
  4. Have a look at Rapid Racking, everything I have ordered from them has been fine.
  5. I work in a school where Ramesys are the ICT Managed Service Provider, I was fortunate to be a member of SLT so didn't TUPE across. The onsite support is excellent on the whole (our old IT tech), it is the other stuff that is sometimes shocking. A small company that has taken on too much; one school in London was built 15 months ago, it still hasn't opened because Ramesys are unable to install the kit. Hopefully the might of Capita behind it should help!!!
  6. I have two 24" dell monitors, saves having 3 or 4 19" ones.
  7. There is a Deputy Network Managers post advertised at The Blue Coats School in Oldham. Approx 50 miles from you, so might be too far. Not seen many jobs advertised in the North West recently. Good luck with your search.
  8. Have a look at Excel 2003/2004: Gradebook: Other Helpful Calculations, UWEC. Any use?
  9. I work in a small school and have total control over my budget, I only have to go through the head / governors on orders above £10,000. Suppose being a member of SMT helps.
  10. We open up the tape and then use a blow torch. HDD's we just use a big hammer!

    Printing

We have 100 pupils and 80 staff, printing is at about 20,000 prints per month between 2 colour printers and 2 black and white. Tons of waste! Approx £12k per annum on toner.
  12. I am on the SMT with the title ICT Development Manager.
  13. Try CPC Farnell - they have a large range of headphones. In the past we have spent £15 - £20 + on headphones and they still don't last. I am planning on buying the very cheap headphones that can be thrown away once broken (pupils could have a pair each).
  14. What about HP Officejet Pro K8600dn
  15. I tend to look in the clearance section of PCWorld Business - usually pick them up for about 20p. Some times they have hundreds available othertimes it is just a few.

  19. I am an ICT Manager in the north west - I get 30 days holiday on scale SO2.
  20. If the policy has been agreed and signed off by the headteacher / governors then there will not be a problem. Also you will not be made accountable for any filtering issues - the headteacher / governor are ultimately responsible.
  21. I get on with and talk to most staff - non teaching and teaching. I have been on a couple of residentials with the students and we have a staff residential doing outdoor pursuits - great team building exercise.
  22. Computer CPU Holders : Desk / Wall Mount CPU Holders
  23. I have got £36,000 this year plus £6,000 for broadband. However, as our new school is being built under BSF (move in November) I have got another £105,000 to spend. Last year had £55,000 - 100 place special school.
  24. I graduated from uni with a degree in Information Technology, it provided very little help when I started out as an IT Tech nearly 9 years ago. However, now I am on the SLT is has proved very useful.
