  1. I only do a visual check on servers and switches here to. PAT testing is designed to make sure portable items are safe to use as they are more prone to becoming damaged through wear and tear or negligence, you wouldn't have the same issue with servers and switches etc. as these should be in an area that is secure.
  2. We use schudio.com, we moved to them around 18 months ago and haven't looked back. The level of support we had during the new site creation was outstanding and that hasn't dropped off since, if we have a problem and can't do something or want a change to the site that we can't do we can just drop them an email and someone always picks it up and helps, sometimes within half an hour.

    Surface Pro

I use a Surface Pro 3 for my main mobile device when I'm not in the office and the screen size is ok for use, I wouldn't want to do any excel work or anything on it. Our teaching staff all have Pros as well as we've had a few complaints about the screen size but once your used to it there isn't a problem.
  5. If you repair anything to that level you should at the very least do a PAT test on the item and bench test for 24 hours where possible. At the end of the day you can only test equipment to a certain level within a normal environment.
  6. I have my breakdown cover with the AA, I have just renewed and have everything they offer except for the courtesy car and I paid £160. Included in the cover is the ability to make up to 5 claims a year and have the AA pay up to £500 towards the cost of repair which if your car is 10 years old may be useful.
  7. We use Stone and never had a problem, they even took out our printer cartridges when we used to use them which other companies we contacted at the time wouldn't.
  8. Yes you're correct, for legal proceedings or to pass the recording onto 3rd parties you would need consent of the person being recorded.
  9. As far as I'm aware as an organisation you must inform anyone that you are recording the conversation, whether or not you expect it to be a difficult call. On the flipside a member of the public i.e. parent / carer etc. can record the conversation without informing you as they are doing this on an individual level and not for an organisation.
  10. What happens when you try and re-image? Are there any error codes? what software are you using?
  11. Our SLT currently like Keith Johnson however we are trying to steer them towards Bromcom eTimetable as we use Bromcom for our MIS.
  12. We've just moved to Senso and that covers Windows and Chromebooks, not sure about iPads however as they are a new company they are constantly improving their product and are open to suggestions it might be worth contacting them.
  13. If you are considering looking at Bromcom I have read somewhere recently that they have their own finance system or are in the process of releasing it (hopefully someone on here will be able to confirm).
  14. We ran the tests 2 days ago and couldn't use the online system as it wasn't working so we had to use the USB drives. A couple of the drives didn't work and a couple reported to contain viruses but the testers had spare drives so it wasn't a problem.
  15. We've just had our internal report and although GDPR wasn't looked at specifically they did ask about our policies and how we put measures in place to protect our data. We were able to provide a copy of the policy and they were happy with that.
  16. The logs are ok, at least with Senso we can access them, using Impero is was always a guessing game if we would be able to access them or not. Keyword filtering isn't something we have really looked at yet however we have seen a demonstration of it and it looks to be quite good.
  17. We moved from Impero to Senso a few months ago now and the move has been largely positive. We were having the same black screen issues with Impero that many of you will have experienced and although that hasn't been completely resolved with Senso it's much improved. Senso also seem to be doing a lot of work in the background to improve their product and are more than happy to listen to ideas and implement them if they make sense. I do like the fact that Senso is cloud based so we don't even have to think about rebooting a server as we all know the Impero server would need to be rebooted occasionally. There are of course problems with Senso just like with Impero, for example we’ve noticed that if clients machines aren’t powered up for a while (2 weeks or more) than they can sometimes remain in an offline status in Senso and we may need to install the client again. We did have this with Impero but the devices would eventually connect to the server again and show online, this may be an internal network issue but as we haven’t had time to look into it fully we’re not sure.
  18. I was taught many years ago to never use your domain admin account unless you need to, you should always have a restricted user account for your day-to-day work. The restricted account would probably still have the rights to install software etc. onto a local machine but not do anything on a domain level.
  19. Can you not create the folder and assign the NTFS permissions using PowerShell and a CSV file? I had to setup 55 student folders with specific permissions and was able to use PowerShell to achieve this.
  20. I put a shortcut to the software in the common startup folder so it launches when a user logs in and it works perfectly. We're testing the software during our Mocks in December but first impressions are the software does everything it needs to.
  21. We moved from Cmis to Bromcom around 4 years ago now and we haven't looked back. Yes there have been problems but that's mostly to do with how we initially set our system up and not being sure what data to take over. All the way through the process Bromcom were just on the end of the phone and still are (we go direct to Bromcom for our support). Bromcom have also listened when we raised valid points on the way they used to deliver training on the core modules of the product via webinar, now they have moved towards onsite training where possible for the key modules.
  22. I've got the Hive 2 system, had it around 2 years now and never had a problem. I like the flexibility of it however I'm guessing all of these systems are pretty much the same. No negatives for the Hive system from me or the other half.
  23. I may be wrong but I would have thought that as long as you put your resignation in writing the date of the letter is when your notice period starts irrespective of whether anyone actually reads it as this isn't your fault so why should you be punished. I would also email HR and advise them of your resignation letter, surely someone must cover the email address during summer.
  24. We use cpoms. Easy setup process and staff seem to like the system.
  25. I've been in contact with them again this year and the answer is the same as last year, to use a standalone device. As a result I have had to take around 6 laptops and put their original OS back on and let the teachers use that.
