Our staff really dislike the new interface, so much so they are still using the old version for as long as they can. We have some staff saying using the new version they cannot see the same details as on the old version, students timetables not present etc.

The member of SLT doing the timetable wasn't able to get along with e-timetable so they sourced it out to someone who uses NOva-T. Can I ask where you had your quote from back in 2019?

We were advised by the timetable the version I have linked to is free to use to open the files and the files can be found easily enough on Google however I will remove the link to be certain.

Hi All, While the external contractor who created our timetable hasn't provided the file in the correct format they have provided a link to a downloadable version of Nova along with a license file. While I don't know if the free license would allow a user to create a timetable it has allowed me to open the file provided and export it into the format needed. I thought Sims was needed but the timetabler has said that's not the case, I need to confirm that though. Our SLT seems to think we have to fix the problem although I disagree with that view but I said I will look into options while I await confirmation from the timetabler.

Hi everyone, I've been asked to look into the cost of a Nova-T licence but I'm not sure where the best place to look is. Currently we use Bromcom for our MIS along with e-Timetable to write our timetable which allows us to quickly and easily import the timetable file into the MIS. This year our SLT chose to contract out the timetable and the person writing it uses Nova-T. As Nova T outputs a file type that isn't recognised by Bromcom they have advised us we need to open the file and export it as a 3rd party export (I have asked the person writing the timetable if they can do this and I'm currently waiting on an answer) using Nova-T. As we have never used this software we do not have a licence for it so would need to purchase it, can anyone tell me how much this should cost and the best company to contact? Thanks Noel

I run a batch file that runs the msi and then copies the license file over into the program folder.

We complete the GDPR courses on Educare each September. This makes it is to see who has done the course and which staff members still need to.

We use Stone. They have advised us recently they now pay for the crap equipment (don't know how much though).

We offered the ECDL qualification until recently and it went quite well. The students that wanted to pass the course passed it, no matter what their ability was due to the way the course was structured. Unfortunately some students didn't like the course so didn't take it seriously and failed the course. On the whole the students that did the course properly definitely learned something and improved their skill set.

I've been looking at the new interface and it's going to take our staff some getting used to. What I don't like is the new look for Analysis, to me it makes using it more time consuming as you have to find the filter/option you're looking for rather than having them all on the left hand side.

I've used Rockstor | Linux & BTRFS powered Opensource NAS solution in the past and found it to be ok. I was running it on an old machine and it handled it fine.

I had to install Java recently for a member of staff who wanted to use an old website, even though we run W10 and Chrome the site wouldn't work without Java being installed. The problem is if a teacher found a site 10 years that has never been updated they still want to use it so we are left with the problem of having to install old versions of software.

I can't comment on iSams as I have never used it however one thing I would suggest is trying to get more feedback on the customer support side of each company as at some point you will run into problems. From my point of view we buy directly into Bromcom's support (we could go through LA but choose not to) and we're pleased with it. Of course there have been a few issues that have taken longer to resolve than I would like but Bromcom dealt with it well and made sure we knew what the problem was and why it took longer.

We use Autodesk Inventor, Autodesk Fusion 360, 2D Design, the Serif Suite, Photoshop CS6 and PicAxe for electronics. I'm trying to convince our new Head of DT to phase some of the software out as there is a lot in use for the same reason but at the moment that isn't going to happen.

If the classroom is remote then having a phone could be beneficial however in a standard classroom there probably isn't the need, in an emergency a student can get help etc.

As long as I have these types of requests in writing from the Business Manager or Principal I don't have a problem. When a new member of staff starts I inform them that I am able to access their documents etc. but only at the request of certain people, I always give the example of long term illness as a potential reason.

Does your NVR come with any software that you can install and use to view the cameras / recordings?

We've done this in the past. The only thing we needed to provide were internet enabled laptops and the people running the exam provided their own usb drives with the software installed on. The software was an exe that opened something similar to the Pearson on screen testing software. I remember telling our exams officer that if the internet went down it would cause the exam to fail however the company running the tests said the internet was only needed when the software was initially run to download the questions etc. into the testing software, after this point if the internet went down it wouldn't matter. As our students can't run exe files we had to run the test using a heavily locked down teacher account with additional permissions to allow the software to run. I remember we insisted on scanning each usb drive for viruses before we plugged them in and we found around 25% of the drives didn't work and the testers didn't seem too bothered by that. All in all it went smoothly and once it was setup we didn't have to do anything.

If the problem doesn't occur again o you know anyone with the ford diagnostic software that could possibly see if the CD player can be coded out in the car configuration settings (assuming this is possible)? I know it's a little thing but my OCD would hate seeing an error every time I start the car.

We use https://www.examscreen.co.uk/ to have a live clock display on our TV screens. We benefit of this is apart from being able to have multiple exam information shown on the same screen it can add the extra time for access arrangements. You do need an internet connection for the initial connection to the website but once your connected to the site the internet is no longer required. Using this you can update the exam info each day without having to connect back to the internet so Windows updates won't be a problem. As for the laptop going to sleep we just play a video in the background on loop with the sound muted on both the laptop and TV screen. This method has been used for the last 2 years by us with no problems, if you do look at this option I suggest using Google Chrome as your browser as IE can have issues.

I do a visual test on our UPS's. I don't consider them to be portable but more of a fixed installation however our Site Manager (not PAT qualified himself) insists on anything that plugs into the mains to be tested. We even test our wall mounted smart tv's (again only visual). Remember with PAT testing you as the tester are deemed qualified and experienced enough to make a decision on whether something should be tested or not however I would always say if you are in doubt at the very least do a visual test and record the fact that you have done it on your system.

We use Bromcom and have for nearly 5 years and yes everything is web based. The only exception to this would be the Bromcom E-timetable software (you wouldn't want that web based) but once complete you import your timetable into Bromcom and any day-to-day changes are done via the main, web based system.

You could take a look at Senso, we moved from Impero to Senso and the transition has been quite smooth. Senso support has also been good and they are always wiling to listen to development ideas and implement them where possible.

We moved our default browser to Chrome in September this year.
