danrhodes replied to Gardinho's topic in How do you do....it?
Exactly as Dos_Box said, it's designed to be easy, it sounds like a mamoth task if you haven't done it before but it really isn't too trciky. D -

If I were you I'd set the new server up seperatly add it as a DC then demote the old server and promote the new one to have full control etc. -

As above, creat the folder remove all other permissions from the ACL and assign certain people only to have permission, don't forget to put the account used for backup on the ACL as well though or it will get missed from your backup. D -

Yeah I usually end up with a few hundered game sites, I admit Hightower, it is a loosing battle but I do like to think I'm making a small impact. And also I like to hear "oh sir come on be cool and unblock some game sites we cant get one any!" when I'm walking round school. I am finding more and more though teachers asking for games site to be unblocked for the last 5 minutes of the lesson, my answer to this is if you allow pupils to have 5 minutes at the end of each lesson to play games then you are waisting a total of 129 teaching hours per year or the eqivalent of about a whole week of lessons! D

Yeah a couple, I have a custom report that I run at night that searches through the days visited websites and filters out the hostnames containing "game" then I have a quick look through to make sure there are no legitimate sites then import the addresses into our custom block sites. D

Here are a few more you should add to your block list too!blocks.txt

How do your users report problems during lessons?
danrhodes replied to apeo's topic in How do you do....it?
I like this idea! Do staff get to see this as well? -
In this situation you should have removed the Tape Drive from the broken backup server and installed it into another as taking backups is very important incase these situations arise. If that wasnt an option then I would have bought a small NAS Box, put it in a different building and ran NTBackup just to do a simple copy over night, I really am paranoid about backups, you can never be too safe, I can't get that through to you enough! Also when you do get back on your feet get Volume Shadow Copy running it really is a life saver, saved mine a few times!

I'm paranoid too, I have my router wireless turned of, I then have a Hardware Smoothwall firewall, then on a dfferent subnet totally behind my firewall I have my machines and a seperate Wireless Router that is tied down to only allow access to known MAC addresses and also uses WPA security. Can never be too carefull ;-) D
