How do your users report problems during lessons?
danrhodes replied to apeo's topic in How do you do....it?
All users report using our online helpdesk, they get jobs sorted quicker this way as the requests go to my email which in turn goes to my BlackBerry so even if Im out on a job somewhere else I get to know about the issue without even having to go back to the office to check my email, much quicker than knocking on the ICT door! Hi, this post is regarding a connection in the Castleford area. Users are finding that loading any content from the BBC is very slow, this is particually regarding video content using either iPlayer or embedded video content on news pages. The content does start to buffer correctly, then either does not buffer and says the content is not available, or it buffers a few seconds then has to stop for 10 - 20 seconds to buffer another few seconds, making watching the video impossible. I have tried this through an external connection and it works fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers.

No just plug it into any port it does not need it to be on promiscuous mode that I am aware, I have always just plugged it in and off you go. D

How long to rebuild a network, servers & workstations
danrhodes replied to Ste_Harve's topic in Wireless Networks
We had a fire a few years ago at one of our schools and we had their Exchange and File Servers backup and running the day after at another school, we also merged school for a few weeks and had kids from one school in at 7am - 1pm and the other school kids in 1pm - 7pm, support for both schools was a nightmare! All in 1 Filtering ISP Email

Have you looked at Exchange at all it may not work out as expensive as you think, it may even work out cheaper overall given you will be paying for a managed service annually, where as exchange is only a 1 off setup fee with a small recurring MS licence fee. So maybe a larger first cost by small oncosts as the years go by? D -
Try turning of Cached Exchange Mode. Follow this guide. http://www.ctcd.edu/infotech/ctcitd/education/tech%20tips/email/disablecacheexchange.html

Why don't you go with your own Exchange system instead of an external company? I know I used to work at a school that had DigitalBrain for thie email system and it was a nightmare as you couldn't customize it at all, any changed had to be made by the support company, which needless to say took a while! You should have got it deliered to work, you could spend all day playing with it then :-P -
Why not use a script to deploy the printers once. Just keep it simple and it will work fine. You can run this remotely and it will add a permenant connection to the specified printer for who ever loggs on, wether pupil or staff. RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /c \\MachineName1 /ga /n "\\ServerName\PrinterShare" RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /c \\MachineName2 /ga /n "\\ServerName\PrinterShare" RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /c \\MachineName3 /ga /n "\\ServerName\PrinterShare" RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /c \\MachineName4 /ga /n "\\ServerName\PrinterShare" Or you can run it locally. RUNDLL32 PRINTUI.DLL,PrintUIEntry /ga /n "\\ServerName\PrinterShare" D

No you do not need to put the script into the startup script it only needs to be ran once. I usually use Excel to concatenate the names of the machines into a script, copy into notepad and then run it with the machines turned on. Once the script has ran the printers will be permenantly added to the machine until they are removed using the same script but with the /gd switch in place of the /ga switch. D
