Is this something you do a lot, or just a one off? I'm wondering if it might be better to get some proper rubber cable protector if it's a regular use case, that won't stick to the floor at all and still gives you what you need. Expensive outlay at first but on a 20m run you'll be going through 2 rolls for 5 events, so may pay for itself.

To be fair that price isn't bad for a 20m. You still running an analogue desk?

Yep, that's 8 pin DIN. A slightly older version was called Bleecon and used by Strand but the 2 are compatible (they just don't lock). If you want to use it in todays wonderful world of DMX you'll need a Demux unit, shout if you need any more info.

No way it can be run up high on the wall? Few nails into door frames and a few temporary screws?

I always used to buy bulk from Stage Electrics - mainly as I hate the cheap stuff as it's too sticky and never rips properly and leaves a mess everywhere. Love the new fluorescent gaffa that's available now though, great for cable labels!

RS232 panel. You can get cheap and cheerful ones easy enough, all hardwired so never any batteries to change and only give the users the functions you want them to have.

Have they got USB-C? Might be easier to get a VGA adapter for that rather than HDMI/DP.

I had a play with a product called Switcher Studio a while back, allows you to use iPhones / iPads as cameras. Thinking instead of using pro grade cameras with long reach lenses from a distance, could a less obstructive iPhone be placed closer (much closer - on the lectern itself even) to the Head? I think it also allows screen casting, so for the stream I'd do a picture in picture instead of the wide shot you're looking at, PowerPoint full screen with the video of the presenter PiP'd into a corner. Of course you can change this as you go so as not to cover the points you're talking about. 14 day free trial so might be worth having a play?

I'm not sure this would be possible. My suggestion would be a RS232 panel bolted to the wall which they can't lose!

I'm definitely in the analogue watch camp, tried a smartwatch (Moto 360 V2 a few years ago) and ending up hating it as it meant that every notification I was drawn away from what I was doing, be it a conversation, piece of work, relaxing... You get the idea. Now I have a collection of watches I change almost daily to suit my mood. Most are the larger oversized ones (feel better on my wrist), love the older designs by Newgate (inspired a lot from old railway clocks) and pop swatches (new and old styles) for something more fun. Also have a G Shock for when I'm doing more physical work.

Gold coloured Sharpie - one on the spine as a sacrificial label, then one under the battery as somewhere to see when the spine rubs off. Issue Gold coloured Sharpie to whoever is looking after the laptops locally, tell them to write new label when old one rubs off. JD.

Monacor have some nice looking PoE speakers that receive Dante (AoIP). Set up either a Dante input device or a PC with Dante Virtual Soundcard and you're good to go.

I went for a Huawei Mate 20 Pro this time around, has taken me a little time to get used to it but love it now. Factor in all the "new" stuff on the S10 has been on Huawei's for a while now (in screen fingerprint sensor for example). Only bug bear for me is lack of a headphone socket but getting used to having to use the dongle - small price to pay. Huawei's are well worth a good look IMO.

I never seen it used for proper data, but suspect it's that feature that's used for things such as CEC.

Another argument after you've resolved the DLP / non DLP - why are you looking at 4:3 projectors? The BenQ MX842UST is an XGA projector (1024x768) - I don't mean to sound up myself but who actually uses that resolution anymore?

If you want to take images from the back of the hall make sure what ever you have has a good optical zoom - forget using digital zoom as essentially all you're doing is cropping the available image on the sensor. Tripod is going to be essential in this application!

My 2p - get something your users can use. Bridge cameras are typically a compromise,and IME rarely produce good results. Unless you have staff who are capable photographers (ie can use a DSLR in a mode other than fully automatic) I would stick to compacts - simple to use and produce good results on Auto. Wex have Canon Ixus 285 for £149 each, decent optical zoom, 20.2 megapixels and Wi-Fi sharing. I'd get the purple ones to make them a little more obvious they're the school ones? Also factor in cases, batteries, cards... That by itself will probably get you close to £1000.

Interesting idea - could put a huge dent into the SpaceX programme and their recoverable booster rocket idea (which is pretty cool in itself!)

Just re-programmed a 3 way divisible room where the AV can be joined up - my head hurts.... Tomorrow balancing the audio system in our biggest lecture theatre (must put new batteries in my hearing aids tonight!) Next week start the install of a 51 client AV over IP install. First one in the Uni, going to be fun! Fortunately we're student free for 3 weeks. Might actually get some work done!

Dual 24's is pretty standard here. Might be worth using Dell Display Manager too if you're getting Dell displays, then showing them how to set up different window configurations. So much more flexible than the Windows half and half approach!
