  1. Related but not related..... the inevitable has happened and we've got a smashed screen on one of these now. Anyone tracked down any good spares suppliers? I've got the screen and digitizer on Amazon for £99 but would value a real supplier and/or better price!
  2. Are you choosing "VPP Device Assignment" when pushing the apps? I presume that the iPad and iOS version meets the minimum spec for that app? If you have restrictions set on devices via profiles, you could try making a minor change and seeing if that comes through. It would prove the device is talking to Meraki properly at least.
  3. We have a shared calendar in Outlook. People frequently don't use it, but if people clash then whoever put their name down on the calendar takes priority, and they learn to reserve things next time.
  4. I assume you've got the device licensing from ASM / Apple VPP coming through OK? In my Meraki I have Systems Manager | Manage | VPP and I can see all the enterprise licensing for my apps. Even if they are free apps you still need to "buy" enterprise licensing at £0.00 per license to get that into your license pool for deployment. From there you can then deploy apps via Systems Manager | Manage | Apps, being sure to choose VPP Device Assignment as your purchase method. It normally defaults to 'Do not use VPP' which requires the device to be signed in to App Store (which it shouldn't be).
  5. I ran into this, as we have our G Suite set up with the mail portion disabled, as we didn't want to migrate our email to Google. We didn't find a way, I'm afraid. Notifications only work if you're using the GMail for that domain. Our lot just got used to checking when they needed to.
  6. Just in case anyone else comes across the same issue, discovered the below whilst preparing the updated Meraki System Manager client for SCCM deployment. The install behaviour for the Meraki Windows client has changed as of v3.1.0. You now need to give your enrolment code during the client install - https://documentation.meraki.com/SM/Device_Enrollment/Windows_Enrollment The new silent install string is: msiexec.exe /i /q ENROLLMENT_CODE= As far as I can tell, this still doesn't enrol the device into Meraki, you still need to do the profile thing so I'm not sure what this adds, but maybe it's another step toward the Meraki client being a truly silent install.
  7. What happens if you install as a startup script? Running in the SYSTEM context rather than user might force it to All Users.
  8. Oh my word. I was about to give up after a few pages, but that thread is gold! Cheers EduGeek, cracking value as ever.
  9. Just popped the case on one of our 300e 2nd Gen Chromebooks, and also no NVME slot. At least, not one that I could see. Shame, that would have been quite a neat little fix.
  10. This could a top tip when it comes to doing our own repairs after warranty, thanks @Katy!

    Headphones

Glad to see someone is still selling those, we bought some a few years back and they live up to their name of being almost indestructible.
  12. Have to admit that riled me when I first saw it - good or bad, the monthly cumulative update shouldn't load and enable new features by default. That's what feature updates are for.
  13. My experience of adding things to provisioned packages on a device is that they will only install into new profiles. So, if your user has either a profile on the device, or a roaming profile, then the new provisioned package won't install. I got round this by sticking a logon script that registered the new package per user using regular Add-AppxPackage.
  14. This could be really useful, thanks! I did try and deploy these out to our existing 1909 machines but had no luck, reimaging to 20H2 over the summer so now might be the time to add those in. I'm presuming these are the provisioned apps? From experience that means a quick logon script to install the new provisioned apps into existing profiles (still using roaming here).
  15. Given that the period of COVID closures are now over (touch wood!) I would say that the time of IT being responsible for loaning devices to students to use at home is also now over. Either the device is staying with the student long term, in which case ownership and web filtering liability now rests with the family, OR, the device remains the property of the school and should be returned.
  16. +1 for ipadrepairs.co.uk, that's who we use and have no complaints. They take POs as well.
  17. We have Creative Cloud rolled out, but not used extensively. As it's only staff using it, I just rolled out the Creative Cloud client with the option that allows users to self-service the apps they want, as well as tweaking a few other settings. A full rollout would be huge. If you have any smaller disk drives knocking around (older SSD for instance) it could potentially swamp them.
  18. We're running G Suite and local full MS Office parallel..... I only mentioned that one as it's one of the pitfalls I know other schools have fallen into, believing that G Suite can completely replace their MS Office licensing. Not always so.
  19. Thanks, useful to know as we'll be looking at doing this in the next year or two, our main shared drive is a similar size.
  20. This is somewhat concerning. Have you hit a hard limit, or does it just take too long?
  21. We recently re-did ours, and similar situation with handsets. We'd have liked to have gone cloud based, but the cost of replacing every extension was prohibitive. In the end we went for on prem PBX again and mostly reusing existing handsets. Cloud based would have been nice, but the extra features didn't justify the cost.
  22. Will you be keeping Microsoft Office on any workstations, either school wide, or at least in the school office? Depending on your MIS and various other programs, you may want to consider whether any of those still need locally installed Office to generate reports or letters.
  23. Yes, I think we've got the same error with storage chips, and when you try and reimage from a pen drive, it just black screens out on us. Error code on the Chrome OS is damaged screen is "0x26 EC software sync error updating EC". Just a minor nuisance under warranty, but probably an end of life failure when they're out of warranty, unless good price spares start popping up.
  24. Nice one, ta. WSUS farmed this out to my PC last night, and I'd just come on here to complain I was worried for a second there that a feature update had slipped through undetected!
  25. Bit of both I think, we were already seeing a very high failure rate on keyboards before the cleaning regime kicked in. Cleaning definitely did for some of them. Be interesting to see what the deal is on parts when we have to start doing our own repairs. My main recent experience has been with Dells, where I've been able to get good value parts on eBay, but a quick look hasn't shown the same availability for this unit.
