I think in theory, because you are exposing your corporate data to the device, as part of the BYOD trade-off, the user does grant you certain admin functions over their device (whether they realised they did so or not), Azure AD does much the same thing, as does Exchange. Be interesting to enroll your own device on there and see what controls you can use. I mainly just ignore this page. When I'm going to Devices, I want to see my enterprise enrolled devices, it's kinda irritating that I'm presented with user devices each time and have to drill up then down to find them.

We had mostly Chromebooks, so we're calling those back in and should have enough to make up a classroom set next financial year (when I've got the money for a trolley). I think there were some discussions in SLT about letting certain students keep them permanently, but we're a primary and don't expect any student to be doing schoolwork at home, so don't feel obligated to provide particularly.

You could, but, I would search out and manually install the KB5001648 or KB5001649 fix. If you're going direct via Windows Update, I think it's an optional update, or search the KB numbers for a download.

Ahhhh, then you benefited from my tears @Koldov! We're an LGfL school too and I did a lot of firewall troubleshooting with them, and they then used our settings for their wider rules. You're welcome

You say "just worked", we had a nightmare getting it through our firewall in the beginning. It's a real scatter gun of ports and addresses behind the scenes, our firewall guy hates it. It was frequently not quite right, even after that.

We did our last Parents Evening by telephone, parents weren't happy! Video chat has become the baseline now, sadly. As an aside, you also have to be mindful of how many outgoing phone lines you have available. Most school phone systems can't support every teacher dialling out at once. We had to ask staff to use their mobiles (numbers withheld) unless they had no other option.

I think 2.9 was the last version that worked reliably for us, I regret not keeping those install files!

I think the difficulty with doing the whole thing on Zoom is the scheduling aspect, having people coming in and out of a meeting in quick succession. I guess with Zoom you'd create a meeting per teacher, and then admit people from the waiting room as and when the teacher is ready to see them. Tbh, as much as you don't seem to be keen on Zoom, you also don't sound keen on implementing another solution. And sounds like your head is already sold on Zoom anyway! My experience has been that end users think that video conferencing = Zoom, and Zoom = video conferencing. It's an uphill struggle trying to convince them there are better options.

Another +1 SchoolCloud. We're only running a 30 day trial at the moment, but it looks like just the job. The thirty day trial is full featured and supported, so we're running our first evening in the software for free, essentially.

Installing 1648 on Win 10 1909 has fixed the problem for us. It's an optional update, so you'll either need to choose it when downloading updates from Microsoft, or, add it to your WSUS manually, which is what we did.

Can confirm that we are having this issue with multiple users on multiple workstations since we upgraded to 2.21 from 2.19. Clearing temp files, running a repair, complete uninstall/reinstall, complete Windows 10 reinstall, none have solved the problem for us. Ironically, we'd upgraded to 2.21 in the hope that it would solve our problem where flipcharts stop being interactive during a lesson. Instead, it's caused more trouble. I kinda wished I'd stayed on the early version 2 we had years ago, upgrades have caused us nothing but bother these last few years. Thanks @Jobos for confirming that rollback to 2.19 works, I think I'll do that here as well.

I'm so glad I found this thread, I'd just come on here with the intention of starting my own! This fault is a nightmare to Google, as you get lost in years and years of people complaining about poor print quality in general. Testing KB5001648 on our 1909 environment now, fingers crossed.

We've just retired our last Samsung CLP-680 printer, and now have a small stack of toners going spare. All of these are compatibles rather than originals: 2 x Black 2 x Cyan 1 x Yellow 1 x Magenta Free for collection in North London, or winner pays postage.

We recently bought a replacement tray of batteries for our UPS, but it turned out that actually the UPS was faulty and we've had to replace the whole thing. Unfortunately, we can't return the battery cartridge, as the box has been opened, so I'm looking for a resale. It's an original APC Replacement Battery Cartridge #43, to fit most large rackmount UPS units. Batteries dated July 2020, tested fine, but otherwise unused. We bought for £330, looking to sell for £200 + £20ish P&P, or pickup North London.

Wuauclt is partly deprecated on Windows 10 I think, but I'm pretty sure that command still works, specifically for re-registering computers with the WSUS server. Usoclient StartInteractiveScan is now the best / quickest way to start a new download and install of updates though, agreed.

Yup, first step I would take is delete the computer in WSUS, then re-register with wuauclt /resetauthorization /detectnow

Looks like this patch only kills of the mainstream version of Flash then, as distributed with Windows. Maybe the one attached to Chrome browser also. Legacy versions you'll need to do yourself....

I'll be interested to see if the patch removes ALL versions of Flash.... We have a legacy NPAPI version of Flash because it is/was a requirement for Promethean ActivInspire. Just need to test a few online resources, then I'm straight on with it to release that Windows update!

Might be worth bearing in mind the current pressure on devices in some households, if a student is timesharing their device with a parent or sibling, they need every hour of the day they can get. If I think back to when I was at school, I would often do stints of 10pm-2am to do GCSE coursework, it was some of my most productive time. Not appropriate for young kids though.

I was considering rolling out the Teams client in our organisation, for the one or two people who use it for meetings. Reading this thread, I am reconsidering! I've already noticed 500MB+ of temp files being dumped in roaming AppData for the folks that do use it.... tempted to push people to only use the web version.

+1 for nicknames, it's my preferred solution for Meets. It also has the added benefit that once you end the meeting, students can't go back there and loiter on their own unsupervised, like they can with the classroom-attached Meets. Still no options to disable chat comments in Meets I see, despite it being repeatedly requested!

I've not tried it on class order, but this sounds familiar to other behaviour I've seen. It may be the case that this is happening if you have your classes sync'd to MIS or AD using one of the Directory Sync tools available. The re-sync overnight could well remove customisations like class order.
