Agreed with above solution - thats what I use, but if you need to gain access quickly then add your username as a permission on the folder and it should work! That's what I used to do before I found the GPO setting!! lol.

Ranger - can you block webpage content?
rh91uk replied to Tony_Mc's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Ranger does something called "Title Checking" - which is what you were reffering to. It does not block webpage content, unfortunatley. We have Securus which will do it for us if it feels it's inappropriate. *ps. we are moving from Ranger in the next few weeks to Vanilla and taking the Plunge ... me and ranger = fallen out!!!* -
Thanks for this Andrew - this has been very helpful in solving a problem.

I usually charge £20 an hour - seems worth it for my expertise!

I just hope the BBC don't give into public pressure, and sideline her!!!

Yeah ExMerge is a brilliant piece of software if you know how to use it properly.

I think the treatment by the public of this woman is disgusting. As a blogger said rightly on that website; how dare Parents treat this woman who is trying to make a honest living out of TV. I agree that young people should be taught the extent of disabled people in the world today. I have had first hand experience with a severely disabled older brother, but someone being disabled is part of every day life; and rather than be hostile to this person, be thankful that their children are growing up watching and learning with someone like this. Absolutley appauling.

We use Easymail + (hate it!) for Students here, with an internally hosted Exchange Server for the staff - which is already proving its worth over EasyMail for Students. It was difficult to paint the illusion it was all running on one domain though - but can offer advice to anyone looking to run the two services in parallel if needs be.

Google Mail for me ... ;-)

We use Acronis True Image Server - it's brilliant. Never had any problems.

Yeah this is possible. On one of our dual headed cards we can run two monitors as a direct copy of the other. Can be quite useful, actually.

I've signed up to this.

Unfortunastley we were always very "trusting" of our kids here (and were very trusting when I was a student!) but due to some recent events, involving young people, I am in discussions with my SMT to impose such a restriction in the AUP about the safety online and the schools name online. Some pretty horrible stuff was being posted, and whereas the school need to take a backseat sometimes as it is out of school, there are boundaries where the school need to step in and unfortunatley we have had a few cases like that!

We don't use it, but at one of my recent Network Manager forums we had a rep from Schoolcomms come down and demo and it was really effective. Really nice piece of software - unfortunatley I just couldn't sell it to work!

The LacIe porsche hard drives always have worked really well for us before when we used to do backups (we were doing this for two years). They provided the solution and it was pretty rigid and reliable. But, I would reccomend if it is financially viable going for NAS boxes. We have been running them for nearly 7 months, haven't failed once! Look at the NetGear Ready Nas Duo's!

Congratulations mate!

Sound, lights (and video?) for drama studio
rh91uk replied to dhicks's topic in AV and Multimedia Related
For the sound, you'd probably wan't to get some kind of "playout" software like Radio Stations use which can give you buttons to different mp3s. Download Demos - JAZLER radio automation software -> scroll down to JazlerShow. That should do the trick. I'd reccomend Dual Sound Cards too in a decent spec PC to handle this kinda thing. -
and Congratulations I'm sure we'll work really well together! Welcome to the team.

Yeah it's not worth it - but staff preference. but hey, doesn;t matter Thanks for the replies guys anyway
