Can anyone recommend who to go to out of Stone, RM, Ergo & Equanet?
dalsoth replied to bobb31's topic in Our Advertisers
Euro Ele are good, we had our whole networking kit replaced and upgraded through them and very well too. Many laptops from them too. Have had rubbish computers from Stone years ago and stopped using them. -
If i could not test the network with another machine i would probably crack out Clonezilla, take a quick image of the netbook to an external drive and reinstall the netbook with no extra fluff on it. If it fails still then at least you can reimage it to how you like it. Does a wired connection make any difference or wireless? Worth a shot too. Does ping and such work? Is your router blocking it? Got the right ip range? check it all if you have not already.

I recall the networking requires a password you use for each computer you add to the homegroup thingy? You done this and checked it was right? Firewall turned off to test if that is messing it up? Antivirus, spyware off just in case? Tried getting another machine at home on the same network and test if that also can not connect? Recreate the home group again and start over?

Did the ITIL certificate and went on the FITS course just to get the education Becta view on it too. It is very dry and literally had me asleep a few times while lying in bed studying. Worth doing though and makes you think constantly about improvements. I did get told on the FITS course by the trainer that they are going to be doing an exam for it also soon and i would get an email after doing the course earlier this year when details were available. Would definitely like to get the FITS exam done to go with the ITIL if it happens. Need to chase it up. Anyone else heard about it? We also purchased MLH helpdesk because it is improving all the time and adding ITIL elements and i think mentioned a inventory in the future too. Just need to get some time to get it done, i know theres plenty ITIL would have to say about time management!!

Don't really know a lot about starter edition myself. I do know that many are using netbooks with 7 Home Premium. Perhaps starter does not have all of the home networking stuff the other versions have? Could you not upgrade to home premium? You sure the slowdown on the webgame might not be because the netbook is not very powerful and is struggling to do the browser and java games and OS? Maybe not but i had a hp mini with a non atom processor and it was damn weak and slow. Oh and i would also check diff browsers just incase and maybe make sure the onboard graphics are up to date.

I know a few that get it all for free so yeah. But that is not legal so in that sense no.

You need to have the patience of a saint to use spiceworks. It is sooo slow. Tried it perhaps 4 times and each time i realise why i deleted it. Full credit to those who develop it though. For some it is a lifeline and costs nothing. You can't really moan too much when it is done for free and helps many. Still on Liberum for helpdesk which definitely still does the basics but have purchased My Little Helpdesk because of the great features. Had a few little niggles with that but just need some time with it to be happy to roll it out. It will happen at some point.

Love that Jack Hunt purple. Have given E4Education a call myself to see what they can offer.

Great if your school is willing to keep someone on the payroll who does not actually do anything technical on the system. Mine would not. It will be TUPE and bye bye or more likely i say bye first. Little while yet here though i expect before i really worry.

Windows beats emacs and viis and wiis too!!

Definitely, Windows is best, Macs are rubbish. Let that be an end to it.

I would not call it trolling. More so i was trying to protect others from becoming an Apple smuggster.

Pretty much although I dispute the lazy bit. I prefer to focus my efforts in other ways. I just made myself a snack. I see that as productive. Researching every bit of fluff spouted at me on a forum just to appease someone is not You could say one sports car was better than another to make a point but i sure as hell aint researching everything thrown at me on here Would be as crazy as some of you then

Cool, have a good time! I want to go back there some time. Great place to visit. Would not want to live there though. Too damn hot!

Think we had a Betamax when i was little. Never really looked into the technical specs of VHS and Betamax as it was too long ago for me. So i can not truly accept one was better than the other on your say so. But you know.... Betamax died with people screaming how ace it was. VHS went on to dominate. Bit like Windows and Macs with Windows ruling the roost. It's time for Apple to close its shops and those few of you who use a Mac to switch. Just bite the bullet and sledge hammer that trash. I know you want to Oh and forgot to say, the worst thing you could do is get Macs for your school!!!!! Why make someone else suffer for your hobby?? LOL What next, an Amiga in every classroom??? Give it up!

If your Apple products were the best then companies would be ditching Windows fast. The majority love Windows. The majority dislike Macs. Just because you get an Apple fan trying to convert everyone on every forum does not mean they are better. The whole "our product is cool" thing does not work well when they also try to use the same method to charge stupid prices for it. We all know that Windows is quite expensive, if Apple had the products to match its mouth then they would reduce their product cost massively and ruin Microsoft. When i see the odd teacher with a Mac and i have only ever seen two (one was a visitor), i just get that homer "doh" sound in my head. Especially when they ask if i can set it all up on the network. Like i would connect that wretched thing to my network!!!!

Would probably say JLS sales are quite low compared to the Beatles or say even Michael Jackson. JLS have probably sold a pitiful amount of records this week which is why they are top of this weeks charts. Not really a good comparison really but Windows is like the Beatles who have sold massively for a long time. Apple are rubbish. My GF had an Ipod for ages then could not believe how much better a creative Zen player was. Apple are all about the polish and sparkle but there are only a few who fall for that. The rest of us buy what is best God save us from the Apple Fanbois haha!

Everyone knows Macs are rubbish. The ranting every Mac owner does about everything from Apple simply proves this. My opinion, but proved correct by the masses using Windows. Simples. I do love Linux too though. Loving Windows 7 at the moment.
-
Most people use Windows. Windows is better. Although i am not entirely sure this is true but i have read that Linux has a lower share of users than Macs. In which case, surely it is either the system with the most (Windows) or least (Linux, excluding really small OS's) user share that is best. Nobody should pick the awful middle man Mac. Bin them all. That is the ugly truth!

Are you sure you have not left more than a couple of sessions open? Remote desktop for administration of servers usually means you can have like 2 or 3 sessions or something like that in use at any given time on a particular server. Any more and they require you to purchase terminal server and licences. As long as you logout properly you should not have a problem using it this way between a few techs. Remote desktop itself will not expire like a normal app and would not need reinstalling. You should be able to close any open sessions on the server and change settings on administrative tools, terminal services configuration. Someone please correct me if i am spouting rubbish. I am not near a server at the min to check anything and my brain hurts from studying.

Staff don't really use anything special here in those departments that jumps out at me to mention. Might also be worth posting this on TES forums as i guess many teachers will have a good opinion on this. Maybe you could visit a school or two that specialize in Maths or Science also? They may have some good ideas too.

Dumbed down console port. Insulting company with no respect for pc gamers. Bought the last one, this time its torrent.

I dislike most teachers so i would never give my personal number out to anyone other than friends and family. Would never take a work mobile home from work even if they supplied one which they do not. Would change my own number if work ever got hold of it. I put down a relatives number for emergency contact and make it quite clear that only an emergency such as a medical emergency should be the reason it is called. Otherwise they have my email that i do not check outside of work hours. If they want me 24/7 they can pay me top dollar. As i stick to the above i do not see the need to get rid of my mobile. I only speak to those i care about on it. Also refuse to answer any number that is withheld. Mobile is handy in case my GF or someone needs my help if they break down on motorway or something like that happens.

It's worse when you clean it and then eat your lunch after forgetting to wash your hands!

We use hills too. It always runs out so fast. Cheeky dep head suggested we get up on ladders with a mini hoover to do the ceiling mounted projectors. Like hell. Maybe i should clean the bogs too.
