SIMS was installed on the 2019 RDS box the same way that it was deployed on the 2008 R2 box - via Solus 3. The S drive is mapped on the RDS server to the usual share on the SIMS server.

Thanks for the reply, I have tried that - The one in C:\Windows ? Unfortunately it is still the same :-( Searching the error brought me to this post http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/68289-incorrect-connect-ini-file-sims-processes-exception-when-opening-exams-org-solved.html but copying the connect.ini to the root of the C:\Windows folder hasn't helped either unfortunately.

Hi all, We have always had SIMS available to key staff remotely via RDS. We have recently migrated this from 2008 R2 (where everything worked perfectly) to 2019. I am having issues with Examinations, Nova T, etc which all complain of a connect.ini issue. I have copied the connect.ini to the root of C:\Windows as suggested on another post on here and still no joy! Capita have helpfully told me RDS is not supported although it did work fine previously and I am aware from other posts on here that others are doing the same. After a bit of process monitor I have discovered that it is crashing for staff users when trying to read this registry key; Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Terminal Server\Compatibility\IniFiles There should be a SIMS value in there but we don't have one by the looks of things. Could anyone who has a working RDS setup with SIMS (and Examinations) working on it and do me a favour and upload their SIMS registry key? I am considering restoring the 2008 R2 box into a sandbox to investigate and look at the key but thought this may be a quicker route. Thanks all eddyc

We don't - We have all fast user switching disabled so only one person can be logged in at any one time.

Hi all, Sorry to drag up an old thread, but I am seeing this behaviour on our RDS server which is Server 2019. Because of Coronavirus we are preparing to close and the exams officer has just informed me that she is unable to work remotely due to error code 4257-7697-3000 when launching exams organiser. I have tried this myself (as a domain admin) and exams organiser works fine. I have then tried as various staff users and it does not. I have SIMS.ini and connect.ini in the root of the C:\Windows folder and everyone has full control of those files (to eliminate any permissions issues). I logged this with Capita and got this reply: The SIMS ini in the users home drive is the same as the one in C:\Windows (and the same as the one in the exams office on her PC which works fine). SIMS is installed to Program Files on all devices (nothing in x86) so I am stumped. Does anyone have any further suggestions? Kind regards, eddyc

We’ve not noticed a change and are getting as many deliveries as usual.
-
We overcome this by removing all students from the classes every summer (via Salamander) - The teachers stay in to reuse resources & tasks between years and can delete them when they’ve finished with them
-
Salamander shared all of our staff calendars with staff@ which has worked well for us. :-)

Hi all, I am after some advice. We were alerted last week that a student had emailed a member of staff to ask about an appointment in their calendar which made us double check our permissions on Google Calendar. We found that the default domain-wide setting was "Share all information" so we have changed this now to "Only free/busy information (hide event details)" as per: I now have an issue in as much as it is generating lots of complaints, from SLT and staff, because we use Salamander to sync the SIMS timetable to each users Google Calendar - SLT and staff have historically used the quick "Meet with" search to look at another member of staffs timetable to plan learning walks, etc as they found this much quicker than using SIMS. Is there a way to allow staff to see all of each others staff information whilst students can only see free/busy information if they were to look at a staff calendar? I am being told to revert the change that I made but don't want to do this from a GDPR perspective if students can view staff calendars. Any help or advice would be gratefully received. Kind regards, eddyc

Is this an E70 interactive TV? If so I don’t believe you can. We found that the touch doesn’t line up if you’re input is the wrong resolution. We found as soon as you use a 16:9 ratio like 1440x900 then it should be ok.

We don't have any nested groups - All users are either in "Domain Administrators", "Staff" or "Students" with no overlaps for any user. The policies are configured on these groups on the Sophos console - I have always found user policies to be very unreliable as I say. Computer polices on the other hand work without any difficultly at all.

In the end I logged this with Capita. We found some users aren’t affected and copying their tmpSIMSreport folder from their user account over the top of a troubled users resolved the issue.

The alarm company finally got this working using the existing FP200 cables between the buildings. In the end they replaced all of the relay cards in all 7 fire panels... 20+ add-in cards I believe as some panels linked one way and then back again. As to why they couldn’t fault find and just replace the faulty relay(s) is beyond me, but at least it’s all back up and working now as it was previously.

Schools Broadband - Service Credit for Outage

This is exactly what our ISP does and it works really well. Turn on notifications for that Twitter account and often within minutes of any outage you know that they are aware and what action they are taking. Saves us and other customers from then calling as we know they’re on the case. -
We’re a Sophos Central user here and we found the user policies to be useless. They don’t apply or apply and aren’t removed when users change as you describe. We block ex’s downloads for staff and students via Sophos as well as on our internet filtering as a belt and braces approach and for admins who should be allowed to download files often get the Sophos block message, like it thinks we are staff/students.

Also following with interest. We’ve been subject to approx 50 SARS so far and use Google Apps here too. Luckily the biggest SAR has only been 150ish items. To date, I’ve manually saved each email to PDF. I would live to know if there’s a quick free way to do this.

We have two quick scans connected to two different HP 5412zl switches on POE+ modules. The quick scans would not power on for love or money so we had to use POE injectors on them which was a PITA really as all over POE kit, wireless, phones and CCTV works fine.

Likewise, our connection is provided by our LEA. Our LEA moved from BLOXX to Netsweeper around 18 months ago. Similar setup with multiple transparent proxies all load balanced. We’ve never had any issues with Netsweeper as a part of this provision either... -

GDPR Training - How do you deliver it?
eddyc replied to tj2419's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We use GDPR.co.uk for training all staff and recording all data flows. It’s around £500 a year for unlimited users. -
That’s a typo! I meant 2016... with a plan to do an in place upgrade once supported

New PC roll out to our Post 16 block (160 pcs) which is well overdue as the current kit it 10+ years old and creaking, even with SSD and ram upgrades. That should certainly reduce our fire fighting in that building. SIMS migration planned as the current VM has lots of peculiar issues (was built in 2014 so could do with a rebuild anyway) which gives us the chance to move that to Server 2016 and SQL2016. Ideally would like to move one if not both of out DCs to 2019 too but doubt that I’ll have the time to fit that in this week!

Sorry to drag up an old thread. Do you remember what was needed to make the SMART Ink data work with a roaming profile (and re-directed app data)? We are still very much besting UE-V and a new member of staff is complaining that SMART Ink does not remember their favorites (but SMART Notebook is fine on the other hand). Thanks eddyc

No we have FP200 fire cable between all of the panels which is what the system used to link the panels over. I personally believe the issue is that we have three different manufacturers of fire panels and someone from our support company has done something to the relays on one of the panels but now doesn't know what. External companies presumably are struggling to get it working as they've never seen it working before and it is a complex beast to get your head around. If we could literally tell the current provider to send a closed signal to the mFi when the panel is in to fire (or to accept a closed signal from a mFi as a fire signal on auxiliary panels) then surely that would be quicker and more reliable than continuing with this on-going saga. The alarm company blame to manufacturers, the manufacturers blame the alarm company, etc, etc. As someone who looks silly every time the fire alarm goes off and only activates random buildings I was looking for the quickest and easiest fix to this issue. eddyc
