We use Observium. I’m not most competent with Linux but found some really simple guides to get it set up. It’s a really useful monitoring tool

We use http://www.roombookingsystem.co.uk - it’s very easy to use. If you have IT Suites it can pull the data from SIMS or other MIS and cancel bookings which clash due to cover/reforming. It’s been great for us.

We had it for around 7 years and have just got rid of it. Our site team are now set up as a department on the IT Helpdesk and all query’s are logged via the same system for both Site and IT

Hi all, I don't know if anyone can help me? I am currently trying to write a SIMS report for our data checking sheet. All is fine, but if the person has more than one vehicle on SIMS it puts them on the report several times, once for each vehicle. Is there a way to list all vehicles one after the other so columns are repeated as many times as required for all the vehicles they have? Thanks, eddyc

We have Titan Swivel Chair in all IT Suites for our students. We castors lock to the floor when you sit on the chair and release when you get off of the chair. https://www.titandirect.co.uk/titan-swivel-chairs

GDPR in schools vs gdpr.co.uk
eddyc replied to The_IT_Guy's topic in Data Protection & Information Handling
We use GDPR.co.uk and it’s great. Not only is it used for staff training but to record all data flows in our school, any breaches, etc. Well worth the money in my opinion. -
Thanks that's really helpful.

Hi all, I was wondering if anyone would be interested in some HP Integrated Workcentre stands, like these? We have around 75 available. HP no longer make PCs which are USDT (Ultra Slim DeskTop) and whilst these stands are fine for the "HP ProDesk Mini" series we don't have very many of the HP ProDesk Mini and most of the UDST PCs that we did have are now redundant. We have replaced our last few batches of HP machines with DELL as HP no longer make PCs and stands which meet our needs, so cannot reuse this stands so they are going spare. It seems like a massive waste to just chuck them in a skip. Free to collector from North Bristol. If you want to collect them during the current COVID-19 situation we can do a no contact collection by putting them onto a trolley and leaving them in an area of the car park for you to collect. - - - Updated - - - I should have also added that we are open to them being split over several schools if you only want 15 or 30, etc.

I would contact support to get the latest software and update all of the firmware on your devices if you can and have the time to do so. We did it last week, just because the schools partially opened and I thought it may give us some more features. Now you can add a second master clock for redundancy in the melodies settings and the software seems to perform a lot quicker than previously.

We have a BODET system here and it’s brilliant. https://www.bodet.co.uk Initially we had a master clock us in a relay to trigger the class change on our fire alarm Over time we have rolled out the IP POE sounders across the site and we now have them site wide. It’s used for class change, tannoy, lock down and so many other things. We have now started to roll out their Poe powered clocks as there is a saving to be made there over time. Site team don’t have to change batteries or set the clocks as it’s done via the master clock. Just put them up and forget them. All in all a brilliant system. Happy for you to visit us to take a look once COVID-19 has settled down.

Hi all, I have got myself into a massive pickle and would really appreciate some advice \ pointers. We had an old DC1 which was a CA many moons ago. We have not been using it so a few months back, this was demoted via DCPROMO and a new DC was built on Server 2019 to replace it. I am aware of the changes that MS recommend from LDAP to LDAPS here http://www.edugeek.net/forums/security/209848-2020-ldap-channel-binding-ldap-signing-requirement-windows.html so wanted to get ahead of the game whilst the site is quiet. So to give you an overview, we now have: DC01 - Server 2019 - LDAP works, LDAP does not - No certificates installed locally under personal for the computer account other than two issued by MS-Organization. DC02 - Server 2019 - LDAP works, LDAPS works - A certificate installed issued by DC1 which is no longer in the mix and has gone. I have built a server with Certification Authority installed which is a member server, not a domain controller - called CA01. I am struggling to get my head around how to get the new CA to work if that makes sense. On the domain controllers I have installed the root CA of the new CA01 server manually into the trusted root certifications authority and this has allowed me to request a certificate for both DC01 and DC02. Testing locally it looks like LDAPS is now working, but on my local PC using LDP I cannot connect on LDAPS to either DC. I am sure I am going something wrong somewhere. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Cheers, eddyc

Hi there, I am being asked to produce a brief overview of our systems that we can give to new students which explains things like: How to log into the network How to log into Google Apps for education How to access homework via Google Classroom How to check email (via GMAIL). Has anyone else done anything similar and would you be happy to share it with me? (Saves reinventing the wheel). Many thanks, eddyc

We have discovered that SMART Notebook defaults to colour print. SMART support have asked to put a suggestion on "User voice" which I have done here: https://smarttech.uservoice.com/forums/444595-smart-notebook/suggestions/40122589-printing-defaults Please can you up-vote it for me?

MSI based here too. We update the MSI when we we update the server. We found the network based EXE too temperamental

Windows Server 2019 showing all network drives as disconnected
eddyc replied to eddyc's topic in Windows Server 2019
After lots of testing today I have found the cause. One little tick box! If reconnect is ticked. The drive mapping show as disconnected. As soon as that is unticked. Everything is as it should be! Hopefully this may help someone else in the future. -
Windows Server 2019 showing all network drives as disconnected
eddyc replied to eddyc's topic in Windows Server 2019
I don't know if anyone else has seen this and had any joy? A GPresult lists the maps as Replace and there are no errors in the event log. I am a bit stumped as to what to try next. This is now causing us other issues in as much as our RDS farm is Server 2019 and our Finance package doesn't open if it cannot see the N drive. I have found if you open the N drive first to confirm it is there, the software then works but it is a bit of a pain so would ideally like to get to the bottom of the issue. Cheers eddyc -
[1909, ou] Forcing Change password at next logon - Breaking Start Menu XML
eddyc replied to 2097's topic in Windows 10
Yes I’ve just done some experimenting and these scenarios match. Roaming profile, no cached profile, broken start menu on password change Roaming profile, cached profile, no broken start menu on password change. So we are both in the same boat! -
Thanks for your reply. I am doing this right? It doesn't seem to work and am not sure if I am missing something? Our sims.ini is here: [setup] SIMSDotNetDirectory=C:\Program Files\SIMS\SIMS .net SIMSDirectory=\\SERVERNAME\SIMSDATA$\SIMS SIMSSetupsDirectory=\\SERVERNAME\SIMSDATA$\SIMS\Setups SIMSDiscoverDirectory=C:\Program Files (x86)\SIMS\Discover Client\ Folder=SIMS Applications [LastChecked] SIMSInfrastructureSetup=5.592.2.0

Thanks for the suggestion. We have checked both the user profile, app data and home drive and cannot find any user specific .ini files I'm afraid.

[1909, ou] Forcing Change password at next logon - Breaking Start Menu XML
eddyc replied to 2097's topic in Windows 10
We have the exact same issue and I posted about it here: No redirected Start Menu or Start XML after password change /showthread.php?t=202685 But never got any replies. It’s driving me mad and generates hundreds of helpdesk tickets every 90 days. -
Yes I've set everyone to modify the connect.ini and I have also ran SIMSPerms.bat to try and help the situation but no joy. It works for any domain admins just not non domain admins - i.e. staff. The paths are correct in both INI files but should they be in single/double quotes because of the spaces in the paths? They aren't currently. - - - Updated - - - Thanks for the suggestion. I have used simsinst.exe via the "Install Application on Remote Desktop Server" process and then deployed SOLUS3 but still the same I am afraid. Very annoying!
