import - open up the report in sims (so it loads in excel) - "save as" using the excel save dialogue. Now open the excel file you just saved and play!

They work fine in rtf reports, but I just tried replicating what the OP is trying, and I can't get the damn thing to resize either

so a Grade U will mean that the result will count while an "X" will not. No result (X) indicates a result is not being issued because you were absent for all parts of the exam or because of a decision not to issue a result for another reason. The subject will not appear on a certificate.

[sims] SLG - New Students missing when reports ran
bobsmith replied to Matthews's topic in MIS Systems
Well I'm sure someone more experienced with SLG can correct me if I'm wrong, (I've avoided getting involved in SLG so far at my school - I'm angling for TASC or similar cos I hate sharepoint based systems). Routines - Active Directory Provisioning - Provision Users - Contacts/Parents... -
[sims] SLG - New Students missing when reports ran
bobsmith replied to Matthews's topic in MIS Systems
have you provisioned their parents? -
Example: 1. New column for data review using formula, formula type = "difference", Alis - Grade - call this column "diff" 2. New column for data review using formula: formula type = "nested if then else", column "diff" > constant 5, column diff < -5, else "some other colour" - colour column "grade" Hide both of these columns. The original grade is now coloured using the conditional formatting. If you don't have an ALIS for a certain student you could enter a "0" and have a 3rd condition that operates first and checks for this 0 in the ALIS column.

Well the trick there is to don't let them self prioritise independently, give em one bit of paper (per student) for contact details and a tick box for priority 1, 2, 3 etc. The other thing I found is that the paperwork they used here when I first arrived had a section for "any other contacts" which didn't ask for any details beyond name and phone number. Some kids ended up with 5 or more contacts! The new paperwork I brought over from my last school has 3 contact boxes in order of priority, nominally mum, dad and 1 backup contact. A full set of details is collected for each contact - this also helps keep contacts unique as with that much information we can match contacts to existing contacts stored within SIMS. A huge number of parents are backup contacts for other peoples kids etc. An explanation of what the priority 1 is used for wouldn't go amiss. It does feel like herding cats at times, but isn't that half the fun of working in education?

sorry, must have copy pasted from the wrong section in my spreadsheet, don't think I moved it on for this year:

2011 engtot 0 N

2011 engtot 19 N

2011 engtot 20 2

2011 engtot 22 2

2011 engtot 23 3

2011 engtot 40 3

2011 engtot 41 4

2011 engtot 69 4

2011 engtot 70 5

2011 engtot 100 5

I did this only last week, was testing the overwrite facility and marked a few kids with special codes (P, V etc). Students that I hadn't marked were assigned an N by SIMS as part of the save routine. I forgot to clear the register afterwards Turning "Preserve" marks off *should* have allowed them to overwrite the N marks, are they aware of this?

[sims] How do you let staff and students know about room changes?
bobsmith replied to pete's topic in MIS Systems
if you can find a report in the reports folder you can call it via command reporter, don't know about pre-built reports like the cover notice board summary. -
[sims] How do you let staff and students know about room changes?
bobsmith replied to pete's topic in MIS Systems
Is scheduling going to do the trick as you said there may be a last minute change request? You could of course have the admin staff run the report to output the file to a folder which your webserver can grab it from. There has been some nice vbscript posted on here recently which allows you to run a report from command reporter as needed. I've tested it and it works as advertised. In my previous work place we published the daily cover via a webpage and sent an email using vb to do the same thing (using a different MIS). As long as the appropriate people have a shortcut to the script it wasn't too hard to train them to double click it every time they made a change that needed publishing. -
The parent has to pick one as the first priority and another as the 2nd. In real world terms, priority 1 simply indicates to us which person to phone first, it has no more significance than that. If they don't answer we move on to priority 2 etc. We share the priority order with parents and update it when they ask us to rearrange them. Teachers should still have access to the "admin" view of student records in SIMS (afaik it's not hidden from them) and on that page you can see all the contacts listed in priority order.
-
Sorry yes I did misunderstand you, however we do have a lot of parents out of work down this way - sometimes it's mum, sometimes it's dad. The parent at home during the day in these cases are the ones we hope self nominate as the priority 1 contact. We don't have two priority ones.
-
We put the priority on the data collection sheets and go with that. Where there is confusion we tend to use mum, but it would be not only sexist but plain wrong in this day and age to assume the mum is the stay at home parent. Saying this from experience - not political correctness!

[sims] Attendance Registration Certificate Report - but with Sessions, not AM/PM
bobsmith replied to ELogie's topic in MIS Systems
Checking the register for a subject across the year so far - it's something we sorely miss from CMIS as well. If teachers are going to do electronic registers they would quite like to be able to go back and see the whole thing at some point just like they could do on their paper register if they still used it.- 3 replies

Warning! My answer may sound flippant but it's not intended to be. Why do you have 2 priority 1's? Does the divorced parent not want to be contacted in cases where the priority 1 contact can't be reached? Trying to design around the ingenuity of teachers for doing the "wrong" thing is a hopeless battle, fixing the data works for me better.

I've been a data manager for the best part of a decade and have experience with both Facility CMIS and SIMS. To answer the SIMS questions first: Behaviour Management: highly customisable - but no triggers. which leads to reporting - which is often appalling slow and complicated. Progress 8 - the school report is built in and isn't customisable as far as i can see. I do my P8 calculations using assessment manager and marksheets. Though if I want something more reliable I dump my data into SISRA. Exams - it does what you expect it to do, while looking like something made during the early 90s. Apparently it's written in Delphi which might explain why new functionality appears in SIMS.Net rather than exams organiser. I found exams in CMIS to be friendlier - AND you could customise results slips etc. Timetable - NOVA-T may be used by more schools (due to the huge market share that SIMS has...) but having used both I will testify that things that are simply impossible in Nova-T are easy peasy in Facility Scheduler. (Multiple timetables as one basic example). Staff Acceptance - SIMS gives more power to your end user than CMIS (in the guise of ePORTAL), but workforce reform and all that means that they don't particularly make use of the power at their finger tips. Admin staff still spend much of their time running things off for teaching staff that they could do themselves. SIMS demands on your infrastructure and technician time are a lot higher than more modern web based MIS, this may be a huge issue for you, but it all depends on your situation I suppose. Going from CMIS to SIMS just felt like a step backwards, Progresso (son of CMIS) really impressed me during the demos but I've not had a chance to play with it for real yet.

Current year 11 have an overall english test score - this can be used with the threshold boundaries to convert to a fine points score - then to a differentiated level - then to a sub level. isn't it possible to enter a late mark without putting minutes late? The report doesn't seem to pick those up.
-
it executes them in order i believe, so the order would be as follows: <-2 <2 >2

I had a look at their website and read through this old thread http://www.edugeek.net/forums/mis-systems/105780-datasec-data-tool-kit.html It doesn't look like it's moved on visually from when the thread was last updated in 2013!! In terms of usability 4matrix and sisra analytics seesms to have it beat - though with the caveat that I haven't used Datasec personally. Is the pricing still in the region of thousands p/a? I can't see anything on their website to suggest it does the job of mintclass or show my homework...

[SIMS] Best way to print individual reports???
bobsmith replied to ilsley_SIMS's topic in MIS Systems
@LosOjos I've got this working with your latest revised script, thanks! 2 further questions if you could: 1. can i specify the print order somehow? Ideally alphabetically by form group 2. can we run the original export with command reporter? rather than tying up our office PCs for hours (and having to avoid the automatic shutdown of client pcs at 5pm!) -
I managed to make it jump once so far, again as @tben2505 has shown, only if SIMS isn't maximised.
-
Just go get this clear in my mind: Person A (admin staff perhaps) runs all the student reports for a year group Person B (form tutor) wants to read the report through linked documents In this instance surely the document needs to be in a central location - not on their local C: drive as one example you gave in your original post. We have ours mapped to our SIMS Document Management Server which staff have permissions to read from.

I just tried the exact same thing and it isn't jumping. Next question - what resolution are you running at? I'm on 1920x1080.
