  1. Can't find any more notes - however from memory the error on the page had the meal definition that was missing, and when you create the definition, you give it the same name as the error(s)
  2. Had this a couple of times My last notes are very vague: Tools > Dinner Money > Pupil meal Definitions New Set name, link to meal Type, Set date in past. Save I will continue digging through my helpdesk to see if I can find further info
  3. Not tried it but have you tried dropping the LA part of thw school ID, eg to 6036?
  4. We have a connect.ini with about 10 schools in. We found that for it to work properly, the user needed to have modify permissions to the sims.net folder.
  5. I knock RM at every opportunity and have ditched most contracts. The broadband service is largely good though. Safetynet needs a lot of improvement but the connectivity itself is good. Change requests for firewall have been very quick compared to another of our service providers and the support line has bern tip top on the very rare issues we have had.
  6. We moved 1 school to hosted SIMS from a different product. It lasted 10 months and we ripped it out and went local. The broadband connection wasn't the issue. The whole system is just clunky and slow. And support took forever for simple things. Our new users weren't being generated and it would take 3 weeks to resolve the issue, every time. We have now moved another 3 of our schools from hosted to local as the contracts came to an end, as well as a new school to SIMS being installed locally too. Wouldn't touch the current hosted SIMS with a barge-pole. SIMS Primary however (although released too late for the 4 schools we've just migrated) does look good and should be quicker, as you haven't got the daft website to log in to and then wait whilst it thinks, and then waiting forever for the RDP connection to be made etc. Shaun
  7. Upgraded one of our schools on 17th. No one has complained of a related problem since.
  8. To add to this - we went the other way at stuck with Windows 7 - it has a fairly long support span still and made the process quicker - we knew the software we had would work (largely) and we were running out of time and didn't have time to get the policies in place for win10, whereas we had them already for win 7. Trust-wide we will start tackling Win10 this Summer
  9. I ditched CC4 in favour or vanilla Windows network last summer - long slog with lots of late nights to get everything finished for the start of term but we made it. We now have a more flexible system and don't pay a fortune to RM in support costs etc. Can you not set up a test server VM on your current hardware?
  10. Looks like we have a winner - Have manually installed the .net framework 4.7 on one of the workstations and now the agent is checking in to the server and deploying SIMS.
  11. We have re-imaged all of our workstations and are now setting them up again. The SOLUS3 agent is installed ok but not checking back in and providing a version number and isn't deploying SIMS or Discover. From the workstation side, you can open the agent, it knows it should have SIMS so you click the deploy button and confirm you want to install, but nothing happens. We have made firewall changes to allow the ports required and turned it off on both client and server-side for testing purposes. With the assistance(?) of the SIMS Support and them pushing the deploy button many times, we have removed the SOLUS3 GUI and Service from the server, deleted and SOLUS3 folders, restarted, re-installed both components, downloaded the Summer release again, re-installed the agents and still they don't install SIMS. Anybody else got any other ideas? Getting desperate as staff are back at the end of the week and SIMS is only on the Exams and Data Managers machines after manually installing for results day last week! Shaun
  12. Tried 6 times today to put the Summer release on every time failed with 'Tolerance not met for target SIMS Database' The Discover update went on ok so SOLUS itself is working. Found this thread, and applied that patch 23172 then the Summer upgrade went on a charm. Thanks!
  13. We had Smoothwall at one school (which ahs been sadly sidelined for Netsweeper...) and RM SafetyNet in use at another school. Smoothwall is lovely. Support has always been great. It's relatively easy to use. SafetyNet required an extra chunk of money to enable user-based filtering on top of the basic filtering, and required everyones passwords to be reset. Worse than that, the RM engineers installed the AD integration component wrong and everyones password had to be reset, again. Smoothwall - required no passwords to be reset, just a user account for access to AD. Smoothwall allows you to track what sites an IP/user is trying to access so you can see what is blocked - useful when trying to get something working. Haven't yet found this feature in SafetyNet. Smoothwall can have as many policies as you want, never found a limit. Safety is something like 8. By the time I had an allowed and blocked list for staff, pupils admins and everyone I had no room to create anything for testing. I still don't get on with SafetyNet very well despite being involved with it for the past 6 months. Smoothwall I configured for the school in half a day. Think that's enough for now...
  14. The first video is a vimeo video, the section 2 videos are vzaar.com videos if that helps?
  15. All worked ok for me in IE
  16. I have a foot in both camps. I have one high school with a local install and one with a hosted install. The local install has had lots of patches come through on SOLUS recently, without having to request each and every patch, which is nice. The hosted system, we have no notification of what is going on, if patches that affect everyone are applied or not. On a plus note, after numerous telephone calls and emails, the patch was applied this evening and tested ok.
  17. We're on hosted SIMS and have run in to this problem. After bad advise from Capita Support advising to check permissions to the SIMS folder on the C drive (er hello, it's hosted SIMS so we don't have one of those) and advising the person looking at the case of the 22599 patch, we are struggling to get it applied. Apparently the first available date for installation is the 20th. Fat lot of good! We expect patches to be applied much quicker than this as it is stopping us from using the product, and the patch does already exist...not like it has to be developed first. So unhappy with support in various areas of SIMS especially on anything hosted!
  18. It's getting worse. When we have a parent whose surname has changed and they would like their Hosted SLG username changed we follow the usual process of un-provision the user, inform Capita to delete the user via helpdesk, wait a couple of days whilst it's done and then re-provision the user with their shiny new username. Now, arguably it would be a much smoother process if, when a user was un-provisioned, their account in the hosted system was removed entirely rather than disabled so we could cut out some of the faff, but processes are processes and the constraints we work with. I raised a case early in the morning on the 18th November with the username to be deleted and advised we had already un-provisioned them. 3 hours later I received an email informing of the case number. Good so far, my email made it and has been added into the queue. Didn't hear anything, for ages. On the 30th November tried to provision user again as must've missed the response from Capita - nope, old username still. Un-provisioned user and chased with Capita. I have chased nearly every day, sometimes several times a day and yesterday finally spoke to someone who started to look at the case (started, not completed). Still nothing to say the user has been deleted so am still waiting. Meanwhile we have printed the students report and posted it home. This took about 5 minutes. Much less than the time spent waiting on the phones to Capita and also a far cheaper solution. Our SLG is due for renewal next year - I find it difficult to advise a school to sign up to a product when problem resolution takes so long. If we had a complicated case, then fair enough, but 18 days before it was even looked at and is a simple resolution is nuts. Anyone else feel like support is getting worse?
  19. Well that looks knackered - tried another PSU?
  20. I had a look at ours today, and there is a section in the software for sims user/pass/database location - have you checked all that out. We didn't have a scheduled task either, so it's not that!
  21. We use the inventry system and can't say we've had any complaints about it yet - haven't had need to look at it yet (will attempt tomorrow) but does it run a scheduled task to get the data overnight and if so, does it work if you run it manually?
  22. Didn't .net 4.5 go on with a previous SOLUS 3 upgrade, back in last December?
  23. DLL file would be lovely but we haven't yet been able to speak to anyone who's looking at it. If it's just a duff dll then I could quite happily distribute it to our SIMS machines.
  24. Don't take the solus upgrade - what a waste f time. If you can, leave it. The previous fix of reinstalling SOLUS only lasted for a couple of reboots. Have had a case raised with Capita since last Friday, and nothing has progressed. We now have students and staff back and everyone is jumping up and down because the error box comes up everytime they go to log in.
  25. yeah, I noticed that too, lots of fun as we have 180:(
