It has a web portal, so the way we have this set-up is a few machines on campus in public areas, that can be used by people who have completely forgotten their passwords. If you're at home etc then you can just use the web portal. I don't think the free version lets you reset password at login time, its possible its one of the paid options - I'll try and have a look in ours

We use Nervepoint which is free https://www.hypersocket.com/en/products/password-self-service (for basic features which includes self-service password reset). Comes as virtual appliance s too if you'd like. Handy tip - do what I did when setting it up, which is I pre-filled in answers to the security questions with known data We have it setup as some standalone machines on campus, and have make it available off-campus too

So Jisc do this service https://www.jisc.ac.uk/financial-x-ray We use our internal auditors for various audit purposes - so that could be a route to go down?

If no-one sends you a message, then happy to pass on your details to our people who mange our Azure stuff (or even give you some info from my Azure portal) - as far as I can see its dirt cheap for what we do (but we are getting the educational pricing!)

Putting some fat on! dumping Citrix VDI?!? maybe!
nadeem replied to Griff's topic in Thin Client and Virtual Machines
We moved from Citrix back to fat clients, I can see advantages for both but in the end I prefer our current set-up - we were really well supported in the process by our Citrix provider - please drop me a PM if you want their details - they were reasonably unbiased in their advice to us, and had some great ideas for reducing the cost etc in our Citrix environment that we didn't take up. -

Can you port your (home) landline number to a VoIP service?
nadeem replied to Trapper's topic in General Chat
Yes, I've done this ported from BT to Spitfire. It may not be possible from a Virgin Media number though, as I don't think they are subject to the same porting regulations as BT -

I have the one tenancy, but (I did have another tenancy with Sharepoint, but we scrapped that, so my knowledge might be a little outdated) can't you just then modify the Sharepoint permissions to be everyone with SCHOOLDOMAIN.ac.uk has read only, but no one else and then the students with DIFFERENTDOMAIN.co.uk won't be able to access the Sharepoint?
-
Why not just use a subdomain for the students? As it happens I'm in HE, and I use 2 different .ac.uk domains, one for staff and one for students

You need to have added the alias first https://account.live.com/names/Manage

Adobe Creative Cloud licensing - EEA ending, ETLA not available?
nadeem replied to LRSFC_DanJ's topic in Licensing Questions
I believe it was an exclusive deal - the deal involved some pretty stringent payment terms. It does say here Adobe 2015 ETLA that there will be an final opportunity to join the agreement in summer 2017- 8 replies

Adobe Creative Cloud licensing - EEA ending, ETLA not available?
nadeem replied to LRSFC_DanJ's topic in Licensing Questions
I think you'd find that any future Adobe Education plans would be subject to an NDA at the moment. I chose the 3 year ETLA agreement last year partly to get the certainty for the the 3 years as it was evident that EEA was no longer going to be available, and for me at least was much cheaper. For the alternatives, I wonder if its worth working out that the "editing" use actually is - most of our (non domain/home use licensed) users are perfectly happy with alternatives to PDF creation (e.g. Word - Save As PDF) or occasionally CutePDF- 8 replies

Thanks for the Dell suggestion, unfortunately not sold by my preferred supplier. I've had a look around their site and am considering an HP OfficeJet Pro 6970 - I quite used to like HP stuff - is it still any good?

Whilst the printers at work are great, I do occasionally need to print documents at home, so does anyone have recommendations for a printer that will do colour. Key things for me would be, small footprint, wireless (very handy), and ink/toner that doesn't run out every 3 seconds! I'm assuming a small colour laser would be best. I already have a small Samsung mono scanner/printer, but am realising the limitations of not having colour when doing a lot of spreadsheet work. Its been so long since I've looked at home printers, that I'm totally out of the loop on what's decent nowadays (my last colour printer at home was probably the Lexmark Z13!)

We use Equitrac - and it was a great idea!

Office 365 Migration Advice / Tips / Recommendations
nadeem replied to adamholt1's topic in Cloud Services
Personally I would suggest a cut over migration - that's what I did for around the same amount of mailboxes -
If you authenticate using LDAP then's no need to install anything else, you already have the plugin installed it just needs some configuring - just test the user to make sure it can read [and write if you want - I'd recommend against this] your AD. Then check the field mappings from AD to the Moodle profile (and you can set these to update information both ways if you want). Lastly for each account the profile will have an authentication method set against it - change these away from manual to LDAP and hey presto! (Obviously check on a few first before doing this en-masse). Of possible interest to others you can also authenticate against Office365

Apparently for edu customers the switch appears to turn on Teams but it currently does nothing
