  1. The poundland cables are 5m, i bought one yesterday.
  2. Yes, I don't think it's the glue but that on the Ipad mini 1/2 the home button has a small ribbon connector that joins to the main ribbon but on the iPad mini 3 the home button and cable are separate. Yes £256 is steep, but Apple wanted just over £100 to fix the home button on my daughters iPod touch. The genuine part was £6.
  3. I take it you mean the digitizer and not the LCD ? I don't think it's a bit of hot glue putting off people (it wouldn't me) but the availability of the digitizer itself. None of my parts suppliers seem to have them and the only one i can locate is in China.
  4. Upload an infected file to virustotal and see if it's detected by Microsoft. I'm no virus expert, but i have spent the last 12+ years cleaning malware off my customers (and teachers when i was a school tech). Whilst I think anti virus is ok at detecting an initial infected file from say a download, once a virus has got hold it's pretty useless at removing and dedicated malware removal software is required. Sophos missed a Zeus infection, and malwarebytes only found it once the laptop had been put in safe mode. However recently I have seen obvious infected files on computers, that were not detected by either malwarebytes or superantispyware and were only detected by 5 out of 56 scanners on virustotal. With online obfuscators so easily available nowadays, it's not hard to see why they are easily missed by the scanners. And as the recent Sony hack showed, there is some nasty malware out there. I'd turn off the network and clean the infection before the network grinds to a halt, if it's got slower since Tuesday, it seems Sophos is loosing the battle.
  5. I'd be in 4th coming onto a motorway or dual carriage way. Maybe my car is different due to the police remap.
  6. I drive turbo diesel so missing gears on the way up results in a loss of power. Back in the day, my friend undid an afternoons graft after i had manually adjusted the tappets in his Nova, by going from 4th to 1st during an overtake maneuver. Red faces, chest bruises from the seatbelts and tappety tappety tap all the way home.
  7. Have you found the original infection ? If your infection is a dropper, i'd be worried about it downloading other malware, particularly cryptolocker type stuff.
  8. From the amount of water and the location i don't think it's condensation. I've experienced both loft condensation and a leaky roof and they are both very different. The whole of the loft got damp with condensation as opposed to a damp corner of my room. Unless you have plastic sheet lining your loft for some strange reason the warm air will condense on the back of the felt inbetween the rafters rather than pool in the corners It might be worth investing in a dehumidifier if you are drying clothes indoors. Very cheap to run.
  9. I've never worked on an RM 120, but looking at photos on the net, it seems you have to remove the screws from the bottom of the Minibook, remove the keyboard, undo the remaining screws then you can remove the top half of the laptop. As i can't see the BIOS battery in the photo, you'll have to remove the motherboard as it's on the bottom (as long as i'm looking at the right photo) I have had a look at couple of youtube videos and it looks like the battery is under the top part of the case.
  10. Something money can't buy. The health of my daughter who a month ago underwent a 10 hour heart operation. It was her first day back at school yesterday. Thanks Santa
  11. Check for bulging capacitors on the motherboard or in the power supply.
  12. Probably made by Vestel. Most small TVs are made by them nowadays, cr@ppy electronics inside with some designs almost looking like they were designed to fail on purpose. On the plus side, they are fairly easy to repair.
  13. I never found it a minefield or had any problems. I have always backed up my customers hard drives before i start work so no documents have ever been lost. I still look after several members of staff even though i left 4 months ago as i enjoyed the private work so much i left to be fully self employed.
  14. Take a look at Ghostery if you don't use it already. https://www.ghostery.com/
  15. If you're burying cable, it might be worth burying it in a plastic pipe to give a little more protection. You could also lay some string inside in case you want to pull further cables in the future ?
  16. To determine hardware or software, boot from a Linux live cd. I've seen malware that infects drivers, so when virus cleaners are run the driver gets deleted. Does the touchpad show up in device manager ?
  17. Thanks, i'll look into those Norphy and detjo. No there is no network connection for this PC.
  18. Hello, i'm after some advice on backing up a single Windows 7 PC. There are two 2TB external Seagate drives i'd like to back up to daily doing a full PC image due to the software that is installed. They are unfortunately 4k sector drives so I can't use Windows Backup. What can you guys suggest, either paid or free. Thanks.
  19. Have you installed the wireless switch utility ? Located under utilities on the Asus driver page.
  20. I'm looking at some of these to replace some 3com WL-561 in a small primary, I'm trying to work out how many i will need, what's their internal range like ? There are about 8 classrooms, and about 40-50 devices.

  22. From 2013 but a useful read about power supplies. Who's Who In Power Supplies, 2013: Brands Vs. Manufacturers - PSU Manufacturers, Designers, And Labels
  23. To echo above, there is some Mac only, as i know am man that uses his MacPro laptop with 3 DH projectors to project videos onto buildings, the software maps windows etc so you get one big flawless display. I'll try and get hold of him and find out what it's called.
  24. Yeah, either GPU or VRAM, if you are trying a reflow don't forget the liquid flux under the chip before you start. Diagnose video card problems by comparing with example corrupted screens
  25. Have you checked the firmware is up to date ?
