"background initialization"? That sounds like it's formatting the array to me - is that what you intended? Bit late now anyway I guess, but it looks like you are on re-build duty when it finishes...

Just an update.. I got budget for it, so the vacancy is now up for grabs..

In the next few weeks, we will be advertising for an Apple technician to assist in our growing IT Department here. The role will be supporting the Apple network here, and a further site, with two locations, fairly close to us (walking distance, and both sites will have 20Mb connections, so remote support is an option). This will cover all aspects of the network so good Apple experience is a necessity. Salary in the 16-18k range. I'll post up again when the job spec is going online, although that might be after Easter now, with the break on us already! If interested, please mail me directly.
-
Isn't that always what happens though?
-
Thanks for all the answers..

If we were, for the sake of argument, considering employing a technician with a good knowledge of Apple Macs, and supporting a small Apple network, how much would we be looking at as a salary, ballpark? Please feel free to PM if you prefer. I'm in a bit of a rush for the info! Not sure if this is the right place, so apologies if it isn't!

Any interest in one of these before it hits eBay? Fully boxed and pretty much as new condition. It's on the O2 network, but I don't know if it's locked - if it is, it's only about a tenner to get it unlocked. Full specs here: BlackBerry Bold - Bold 9000 WiFi Smartphones at BlackBerry UK Sensible offers, bearing in mind I can recycle it for about £130 on one of those websites.

Yes, this is what we do with iPhones here. Set up an Exchange account on the iPhone using the OWA details / credentials. Works just fine.

Absolutley agree.. if you want to move OUT of education at any point, experience "managing" an RM network would be virtually useless as a bargaining point.

Try, in a CMD prompt, netsh winsock reset Had similar problems here with Vista laptops, and this can fix it. You'll need elevated permissions for this.

Exactly where I ended up!

During a recent inspection, they actually wanted to SEE the tapes, and the backup policy.
-
I was told that SIMS (and therefore, any MIS) data had a regulatory 3 year retention period...
-
Same here - minimum 5 years.. I can currently go back nearly 8 years. We are now disk-disk-tape, with tape being monthly, and the backup/mirrored disks being in a dedicated DR room with full snapshots of the core servers (we are all vitualised here).

Changing ISP from Synetrix
Abaddon replied to Ultra_Charge's topic in London Grid for Learning (LGfL)
We are currently having the EXACT same problem with mail from school to a governor.. Synetrix blame the other ISP, the other ISP say it's not their problem... -
Installed on the default user account on the local machine?
-
I've only just looked at this service.. very interesting. Does anybody know what is done in the way of backups? If a student lost some work for example, is it retrievable?
-
Sorted now.. was missing an UpperFilters registry key on both machines. Created the key in the right place, and both now working correctly.

Does anyone know of any that are readily available that actually work with 64-bit Win 7? And I mean DO work, as opposed to just saying they work! Had trouble with the Microsoft LifeCam VX-5500 which is logo'd and compatible according to Microsoft.. well.. not any either of the two PC's I put it on it isn't! Microphone works but no video. Same problem on both. Works just fine on a 3rd PC with 32-bit on it though....
-
iSCSI here as well, with SIMS on VMWare host. Fully vMotioned etc etc.. no performance issues. Staff use it on laptops wirelessly through a Citrix server farm mostly, although some are using the locally installed client.

How did you get on?
-
Big killer in AD is incorrectly configured DNS. Make sure this is all spot on!
-
What errors do you get when you try a network logon?
-
I tried to go to computermanuals.co.uk to order some books, and the website seems to be down.. typical really, after I recommend them! Can anyone else get there? Is it just me?
