  1. That's a lot lower then their original suggested fine. £20m down from £180m.
  2. We don't use SIMS own cloud system but we do use Scomis. It works well and staff can access it anywhere using RDP.
  3. Is the work inside a shared drive that has permissions locked down (don't allow sharing of files outside of the permissions on the shared drive)?
  4. Managed Apple IDs can't purchase from the app store. You need to use an MDM to distribute apps or have them login to the app store with a personal apple ID account. For 3 iPads you probably just want them to manage the device. No need for apple school manager then. Alternatively, I think Moysle and/or Meraki do a free MDM solution.
  5. Can't remember where I found this but it seems to work. Probably not as good as the Adamj one but it still declines old updates and frees up space: https://paste.ofcode.org/8Mue4y9bMaMR5s7nKUVApw
  6. Think I've figured it out for Sketchbook with no help from their support. Basically telling me it's not possible but what bit of modern day software doesn't have silent installation? I extracted the contents of the exe I downloaded using 7 zip which contained an MSI file that can be used.
  7. Hope you guys can help with another piece of software: Sketchbook. I've looked all over on the sketchbook/autodesk website and can't find any information about a silent install. I've found an exe file and I've spoken to their support that says there is no MSI version available. Does anyone know the switches to make sketchbook install silently/via bat file?
  8. We have students join the wifi during the iPad setup. We don't push the wifi profile out as they sign in via radius to get filtering. This setting seems to be per wifi rather then a general iPad setting. I guess the only way for us to turn this off would be to push out the wifi profile but this doesn't make sense as they can't get this profile until they connect to the internet which is whilst they set the ipad up.
  9. I've had some more information from purchasing the full version from a supplier. The licenses are £12 (ex-vat) each and are based on concurrent sessions. So you can install it on as many machines as you like but can only have a certain amount running at any one time based on the number of licenses you purchase. The licensing is cloud controlled: You can buy licenses here: https://www.cadsoftsolutions.co.uk/product/trimble-sketchup-classic-lab-annual/
  10. Awesome, this looks to have worked!
  11. Just looking at SketchUp Mark 2017 and it installs okay but says it's in a 30 day trial period? Is there are way to install it to get round the trial license and just use the free one?
  12. Thanks for the replies. I'll take a look at the 2017 version and see if that's good enough.
  13. Our Design Engineering department is looking to use SketchUp. A few years ago we had an older version that was provided free with an exe file. Looking into it again now and it looks like it is now browser based for education: https://www.sketchup.com/plans-and-pricing#for-primary-and-secondary-education The browser version doesn't have as much functionality according to our teachers so they would like the full version. I can't seem to find a way to get the full version as United Kingdom isn't listed in the country selection. Has anyone got any experience with this software and how we can get licensed for the pro version? I also came across this: https://elmtec-sketchup.co.uk/Buy It seems to use the same logo but not sure it's the same software?
  14. We only allow Google Meet. Zoom is blocked for students unless they are in sixth form.
  15. You can turn on groups in the dir sync (GADS?) It will only sync groups based on the settings you assign it so you can choose to only sync groups from specific OUs if you wish.
  16. His budget is £750. Don't think you'll get a macbook for that price these days unless they several years old and second hand. He also mentions in his post: "our whole trust strategy now means we need to start looking to transition to Windows" so I guess they might be using more of a Microsoft environment like office 365/teams etc.
  17. Sys prep shouldn't be needed anymore unless you want something very specific. You can download the Windows10 ISO and extract the WIM for version of windows you want to use. Then add this WIM to MDT and create a task sequence which installs windows and all the software you require. Can take a while to setup and add all applications with installation scripts but is worth it in the end. We now have one task sequence that does all of our machines. We can choose which software we want to install during PXE boot.
  18. Yep, it seems hit and miss on whether it works. For most people it is working but others they don't play although the same video will play on their iPad. Our work around is to download the video.
  19. Would not want to be the tech guys for these at the moment. We hand out about 300+ ipads every year in our 1:1 scheme and probably have 98% of them setup correctly but then there are some that don't enrol properly (even though they are exactly the same as others with prestage enrolments), randomly get stuck at installing apps and the biggest issue at the moment is Apples Licensing is broken: https://www.jamf.com/jamf-nation/discussions/36662/pending-application-is-not-available-to-install
  20. Are you using the Chromebook utility tool? I never had any luck with this and found another way. You can download this recovery file: https://dl.google.com/dl/edgedl/chromeos/recovery/recovery.conf Open it in notepad and search for your model and download the zip. Asus Chromebook C300 chromeos is https://dl.google.com/dl/edgedl/chromeos/recovery/chromeos_12239.92.0_quawks_recovery_stable-channel_mp-v3.bin.zip Extract the .bin file and you can then use win32diskimager to create a bootable drive.
  21. I had a similar thing a few years ago. I think I used a domain lookup tool on the web to find out who the owner is. Ours turned out to be RM and I had to email someone there to get a dns entry added. You might be able to use: https://www.nominet.uk/whois/ To find the registra. We've now moved ours over to our normal dns provider.
  22. You can do this fairly easily with a powershell script. Here is one we use that sounds like it might be what you're after: # Access Active Directory PowerShell Commands.Import-Module ActiveDirectory -ErrorAction SilentlyContinue# Import List Of Accounts From CSV.$ListOfAccounts=IMPORT-CSV C:\Scripts\CSVs\2020leavers.csv -Header ("Email")FOREACH ($Account in $ListOfAccounts){ # If the account exists, inform, if it does not exist also inform. $Username = $Account.Email If ((Get-ADUser -Filter "EmailAddress -eq '$($Account.Email)'") -eq $Null) { $username | out-file "C:\Scripts\CSVs\not-exists.log" -append Write-Host "$Username does not exist." } Else { $username | out-file "C:\Scripts\CSVs\exists.log" -append Write-Host "$Username exists." }} Pasting the code isn't going to well so I have put it here: https://paste.ofcode.org/9mPvhPgST2AW6GU8WGV5in You can change the filter to SAMACCOUNTNAME if you want to use their account name rather then email address.
  23. There's a few USB option on the config profiles. I'm not sure which one it might be. Have you tried: USB drive access in Files app I know USB restricted mode needs to be restricted (disallowed) to allow usb cables to work without putting in the passcode.
  24. I would like to sway we're ready but there's too many unknowns. We've got most stuff sorted now. Need to tidy round a bit but we had a hectic summer due to our 6th form relocating to another site that we only got access to 2 weeks ago. We had to rush to move everything from our old 6th form to our new one ready for next week! This was on reddit yesterday which made me laugh:
  25. We had this issue for ages and it wasn't causing us anything problem until we rolled out google drive file stream. Google Drive file stream would stop syncing when the computer believed it didn't have an internet connection (even though it did and was capable of doing everything else). I spent a while on this and tried the probing registry but still didn't work. I then came across this article that has some more possible solutions: https://support.umbrella.com/hc/en-us/articles/230900948-Umbrella-Roaming-Client-Microsoft-Windows-Limited-Network-Connectivity-Warning-Yellow-Triangle- The solution that worked for me was to create the reg key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\NlaSvc\Parameters\Internet\MinimumInternetHopCount = 1 (DWORD)
