  1. Yes, I have an oVirt cluster here. It works really well if you don't need the extra bells and whistles of VMWare. Also docker, with it's lower overheads, looks interesting for some deployments (I'm thinking of my Apache and Postfix servers here). https://www.docker.com/whatisdocker/
  2. That's never been true in a multi DC domain, in fact you could break W2k DCs (of which I hope you don't have any) if you did that. DNS Server becomes an island when a domain controller points to itself for the _msdcs.ForestDnsName domain If you have two or more operation AD integrated DNS servers you should set a DC to use another DCs DNS as the primary. Your DC will boot much faster and with less errors that way. Microsoft fixed the 'island' problem in W2k3.
  3. Yes it's in the tech preview.
  4. I stumbled across this article. Windows 10 Includes a Linux-Style Package Manager Named “OneGet” So package management via Powershell. Sounds handy from a sysadmin point of view, I know having a local repo for all my Linux systems to talk to makes my life far easier. It will have a gui though, so it should be user friendly. Plus it lays the groundwork for a Windows 'App Store', I know that's something Microsoft would like to do.
  5. ...but I don't think you'll get it.
  6. Found an article that should help explain things better than I can. A Guide to Standby Power Pt 6 - Matching a generator to your UPS.
  7. Yes the best way to do this is to run on UPS for a few minutes to drain the UPS batteries a little (10-25% depending on capacity). You then want to start up the generator. DO NOT have everything plugged in at start-up, you don't want to load the generator straight away. Simpy plug in the UPS once the generator is running and has settled down. If in doubt read the manual.
  8. Looks ok to me. The UPS will sync to the 50Hz 'mains' (The generator) so make sure your equipment is ok with a 50Hz feed.
  9. There's no enforcement anyway.
  10. If you are going to buy a generator practice the switch over procedure ahead of time, keep a decent supply of fuel on site, and test the generator regularly.
  11. A 6kW generator will cost you around £1,300. Make sure you ventilate well, or protect it from the weather if outside. SDMO SH 6000-2 UK 6kW Generator 115/230V | Screwfix.com The '8 hour' run time listed is because you (technically) have to turn it off to refuel the 20 litre tank. Obviously the UPS can handle the load while you do this. Alternatively you could hire a generator. You'll get more bang for your buck this way unless you need it for an extended period of time. Diesel Generator (10kva Silenced) Hire | HSS Hire Also check you are insured the handle heavy plant. If you aren't your site supervisor might be.
  12. Depends on the device, if it can talk to a network or knows what date it is and timezone it is in then it'll be fine. Otherwise manual intervention is required.
  13. Hyper-V? Isn't everyone using KVM by now? It works far better.
  14. Pft. I ordered a crossbow and a grappling hook.
  15. Bin all non-managed switches. Spanning tree on all your switches. Loop Protect (or equivalent feature on nonProcurves) client ports. If you have 802.1X port auth too you also know what machine and who was last using the port and can exact vengeance.
  16. You get to choose what you want Picard/MusicBrainz to do IIRC. It can do any of those options and also fix broken ID3 tags. Also, here's the Linux bash script solution to your problem. #!/bin/bash #Renames and organizes your music data. #Provide the full path of your source music folder as an argument. #Renames music files according to its metadata in format "Track - Title - Album - Artist". #Creates a directory in the target folder with Artist name and stores file in it. if [ -z "$1" ];then #setting default directory cd ~ else cd "$1" fi target_dir='~/Music' for F in ./*.mp3 #change this line to 'for F in ./*' if you have files other than mp3 format do if [ -f "$F" ];then # Get metadata track=`mminfo "$F"|grep track|awk -F: '{print $2}'` track=${track:1} artist=`mminfo "$F"|grep artist|awk -F: '{print $2}'` artist=${artist:1} title=`mminfo "$F"|grep title|awk -F: '{print $2}'` title=${title:1} album=`mminfo "$F"|grep album|awk -F: '{print $2}'` album=${album:1} if [ -n "$artist" ] && [ -n "$title" ] && [ -n "$album" ];then filename="$track - $title - $album - $artist.mp3";echo $filename cp "$F" "$filename" #renaming the file(copy) if [ -d "$target_dir/$artist/$album" ];then #moving file to the artist folder mv "$filename" "$target_dir/$artist/$album" else if [ -d "$target_dir/$artist" ];then mkdir "$target_dir/$artist/$album" mv "$filename" "$target_dir/$artist/$album" else mkdir "$target_dir/$artist" mkdir "$target_dir/$artist/$album" mv "$filename" "$target_dir/$artist/$album" fi fi else echo -e "Skipping b/c insufficient metadata: $F \n" fi fi done
  17. Yeah, there's a fair amount of porn on there. Not as bad as imgur, but still I wouldn't open it up to a school network.
  18. Function LargeA(MyCells As Range, MyRank As Integer) As Integer Dim MyData() As Variant ReDim MyData(MyCells.Count) 'get data DataCount = 1 For Each MyCell In MyCells MyData(DataCount) = MyCell DataCount = DataCount + 1 Next MyCell For i = 1 To MyRank For j = (i + 1) To (MyCells.Count) If (MyData(j) > MyData(i)) Then Temp = MyData(j) MyData(j) = MyData(i) MyData(i) = Temp End If Next j Next i LargeA = MyData(MyRank) End Function
  19. Pivot your data. Then use 'LARGE()' to find your top 5 values.

  21. It works because it's Samba. Various versions of Windows will take offence though.
  22. NFS is recommended for Linux <-> Linux file sharing via mounts. You might also want to think about using rsync sudo mount -t cifs //10.114.192.61/backup-misc/Webserver -o username=WebBackup,dom=10.114.192.61,password= /mnt/ntfs Drop the 'Webserver' in the cifs path. Also the domain is wrong, it should be the netbios name of the server.
  23. Your local user account cannot mount filesystems. Normally this is done by root. Either use sudo to mount the file system (configure sudo not to prompt for a password or your script will break) or you can define the mount point in the fstab and give the user option which will allow non-privileged users to mount it.
  24. Also includes films and music. Britain just decriminalised online game piracy | VG247
  25. EOL was originally slated for mid may. Information Regarding the Latest Update for Windows 8.1 - GLADIATOR@MSFT - Site Home - TechNet Blogs This date has been extended to the 10th June. Windows 8.1 Update Requirement Extended After this date Microsoft is expecting you to have installed Windows 8.1 Update. You will not get security fixes and software updates otherwise.
