I would hazard that you, and the other schools need to petition for school specific filtering. We have that here, we have an LEA broadband connection and they have the central servers but every school, primary or secondary, can control their own filtering levels. I feel your pain, as I have been through a managed service contract (the evil BSF) and suspect that I have dealt with very similar restrictions to what you have. I would advise against trying to run two wireless networks withing the same building, as the conflicts could be more problems then the benefits you will receive from getting your own internet and seperate system.

One Second. You already have a wireless enabled site, you may have issues here with the crossover of channels between the two and this may cause you more issues than advantages. What is your current Wifi network and Filtering, as most allow you to put a MAC Filter SSID for the iPads to their own vlan and then those IPs go into the filtering system. We have been doing that here since 2011 with iPads and have never had an issue with them. I would say it is worth pushing to have the "managed" wifi allow you to use your iPads with them, as you may end up with a bigger headache trying to run something else.

i got confirmation that I cannot attend :-( Network is coming into my control from a managed contract on that date and first port of call is a new DPM server being installed so I have to be around for that. Good thing i didn't sign up on eventbrite in the end

Oh I can only wish, I work on an iMac all day long (although mostly in windows running on Virtual box) but always have edugeek open in safari on another desktop. No dual monitors as then I would just not have any desk space. I have the mac to setup and manage the iPads we have, while there is an Xserve upstairs in our rack. Oh to have a dedicated test lab. I also have to look at a lot of the mac issues we have as well, so knowing my way around the OS perfectly is of great advantage,

@rad this was the only way we could fit 4 people in, with me going back into the techie office. I have now decorated it with some posters, some from xkcd and some chuck Norris ones. It allows us all to interact with people when they come to the door, with no one person's back to them.

If the issues follows the user to other machines I would reset their profile, as it sounds like there could be an issue within the setting held there.

Does the user have a roaming profile? - - - Updated - - - Also, are there anything about folder redirection in the event logs?

Does the user have Offline files enabled. We had this issue initially here and solved it with KB2525332 be aware, it does take forever to run if the PC has been in use with offline files, it is dirt quick after a fresh image though. Maybe worth giving that a shot

In theory that should work, as long a robocopy is available on the client machines. The settings for appdata should be OK to change during term time. As it would copy their current settings, I would put a test OU under your current staff one and apply the policy to there and people who need their signature could go into there for the test. Then you can see if they have any adverse effects.

We use the format of first initial then first and last character of the surname of John Smith would be JSH and if there was a Jane Smith that Joined later they would be JST We are also looking at using the $ then the 2 initials in Nova and SIMS for this scenario but have not tested it yet, so the supply member of staff would be $JS

What about if you redirect the APPDATA in group policy to a sub folder of their home directories. That is what we do here and it keeps the signature in there.
