It definitely points to a network issue regarding the laptop, that smb.sys file is the culprit, that's why they don't experience it at home. Take one off staff for testing, apply this: How To Disable the Automatic Restart on System Failure in Windows 7 And leave it on your work bench throughout the day as you work, doing tasks with it every now and again, joining wifi / wired network etc.

All i can suggest is to put your own school sysprepped image on one, and load basic drivers one by one as and test it. Might narrow down what driver (if it is a driver) is causing the problem.

Afternoon. We currently use an old program call PaintSpa in nursery for the kids to draw and mess out with. The teacher says Paint is a bit too complicated for them. However, PaintSpa is very old and sometimes kicks out runtime errors and the old only way to fix this is by deleting the profile of the user off the machine. Annoying. Anyone know of an alternative? cheers!

I agree that could potentially happen. Imagine a free-lance IT teacher in primaries. The right person could spark so much interest in kids when it comes to computing, instead of a teacher reading out a step by step boring task or just writing a few paragraphs in word. Not saying all teachers are like this at all. But some of the older members off staff just don't want to get involved in learning new tech.

In regards to primary schools, does anyone else think that they could benefit from having the same setup they have for music teachers? They don't expect staff to learn an instrument to teach the kids. They often (in a few of my schools) have someone come in and do it on a bi-weekly (?) basis. Would primary school kids benefit from doing this with computing? Someone coming in and teaching the curriculum IT lessons? Such as programming in scratch, Kodu etc. I know so many older members off staff who have woeful IT skills and this potentially hurts the kids development in IT. Just a thought.

I have a regedit file that adds a "take ownership" option to explorer when you right click a file or folder. So when i get something tricky like this i can easily take ownership and archive it. Add "Take Ownership" to Explorer Right-Click Menu in Windows

I'm really struggling with my hips in martial arts. Mainly the flexibility. I'm stretching a lot but in this industry you spend a lot of time sat down, and that is definitely not good for hip flexibility. It is getting better just taking longer than i thought it would. Also got a new gym routine to start: Push: 3x5 bench press 3x5 OHP 3x5 inc bench press 3x 10+ dips 3x5 squat pull: 1x5 deadlift 3x6-10 (not decided rep rang) rows 3x 10+ chin ups 3x10 curls Week routine is: monday: Kickboxing + jujitsu tuesday: push wednesday: pull thursday: Kickboxing + jujitsu friday: off Saturday: off Sunday: off Anyone think keeping with the weight routine back to back will hinder me? I'd rather not do pull on friday but will if i have too. Weekend is definitely off. Looking forward to starting the new routine. Yeah, lets start building some hurtin' bombs!

Noticed something a little strange since coming back from our jolly hols. The old proxy wwwcache.cleo.net.uk seems to active again. It's not an issue or anything, just a bit odd, i thought they switched it off for good. I found out by a logging into an older machine using local account that had the proxy saved. Wonder what BT are up to with that? Also, FTTC is here for one of my schools!

Yeah i wasn't even considering it yet, but i just can't see how SIMs would break on W10. BTLS are slipping recently, they started out so well, now they don't seem to bother replying to emails and seem pretty lazy when it comes to something other than sales.

Afternoon. In a lot of my schools, the admin network (+ SIMS) is separated from the curriculum network, with only two machines they are just on a workgroup. As they are not on a domain they are getting the update icon / prompt in the system tray. One of the ladies from the office said county has informed them NOT to upgrade as it will completely break SIMS on the SIMS server, and it is a chargeable job to put it right again. I've already told them not to update but has anyone else heard this about SIMS and windows 10 not working together? Could cause us a lot of trouble if the sims server upgrades from 7 to 10!

Apart from the UX changes and additional features (search, cortana, start menu..etc) is there any actual difference in the Core OS from windows 8.x? I think they are fundamentally the same underneath so i highly doubt there will be any driver issues.

I have had something similar adding a network printer. Try browsing the server you are sharing the printer from, so in explorer type \\server1\ or what ever the server is called, and right click the printer you want and click connect, and see if that adds the printer.

Phil T does HE stuff and is moving into database management for the college last i spoke to him a few years ago. All great guys. I did my CCNA whilst doing my BTEC. It was hard work doing it at the same time as a BTEC full time.
