  1. Hi Everyone, Just wondering if you could help me out, I have a AFP share that I need to mount to all desktops but cant seem to get it to work. It works at the root level of the share but I was wondering if I could make it go into a sub-folder with the username of the current logged on user? I'm using WGM with the following URL afp://macserver/Network%20Users/ < Each user has a folder on the Network Users share with the correct permissions (see screenshot) Some websites are suggesting adding $1 to translate the path to afp://macserver/Network%20Users/RMUser01 I'm by no means a mac man and I appreciate if anyone could advise or a better way of achieving this?
  2. I know this is an old thread but I'm pretty much in the same boat! I ideally would like to use Work Group Manager for adding network shares to my users. Where should I start within WGM? I have groups and their docks all setup.
  3. We're in the same boat! Are you still logging in manually and downloading the latest satellite installer after every update?
  4. Does anyone know a way to manually uninstall the Agent? I have removed it by using the uninstaller however I'm unable to reinstall. No error messages nothing!
  5. Was just wondering whether this is still the case? We have recently moved over to SOLUS 3 and I take it SOLUS updates it as part of the Workstation Upgrade. I have also just had an email asking if I could send the up-to-date installer for them to install on there personal computer.
  6. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to share my experience of the good old SOLUS 3!! - I want to deploy the Agent via GPO because we don't have desktops in the classroom every teacher has a laptop which they are allowed to take home. The issue was when installing the agent from within SOLUS 3 it would immediately fail and after reading several posts it seems that if SOLUS is unable to find a DNS entry it would produce the "failed to install" message. Reason for this is because it's the summer holidays, staff haven't been into school therefore the DNS entry for that laptop has expired. Therefore I needed away for the agent to install at startup, I tried every combination of trying to get the "Solus3AgentInstaller.bat" to run within my GPO startup script and failed to do so for several hours! I then read a TechNet article explaining that you can in fact add JavaScript directly into the Startup GPO (I never knew this!) and hey, presto it worked! Steps outlined below: Select an existing GPO or create a new one Copy ALL Agent installation files to the GPO folder (Show Files..) Add the Script: "AgentInstaller.js" Add Script Parameters: "agent_installer.log" "net.tcp://localhost:52966" "net.tcp://MY-SIMS-SERVER:52965" "Solus3.Keys.DeploymentService.Public.xml" "SOLUS3AgentInstaller_x86.msi" "SOLUS3AgentInstaller_x64.msi" I hope this may help someone that is experiencing the same issues as we did. As always there maybe a better way but I guess its whatever works for your setup.
  7. Do you need to make an MSI? I use Cameyo which is essentially a free version of ThinApp
  8. Just wanted to say a really big thank you to you all, for the feedback and suggestions. Yes, it's an exciting position to be in. We're looking to build the school ourselves e.g. The Academy Trust pending government approval. As you suggested I do need the vision of the non-existent SLT but at least I can make a start on a writeup. Please keep your suggestions coming in!!!
  9. Dear all, I have been asked to draw up a new ICT Plan for a secondary school that doesn't exist!! I have a pretty good idea with which route I want to go down such as Thin Clients, Citrix, VOIP, Management Cluster & VDI Cluster. Could any of you suggest your thoughts or recommendations? I'm guessing the builders will be installing all the cabling back to the server room. but any of your thoughts will be appreciated. Regards Matt
  10. Thanks Steve, I'm starting to understand it now. I've checked a student with a D code and it says that they haven't attended any sessions so it would be in fact 00% attendance. I'm guessing this will not count towards the whole school attendance figures?
  11. Hi Everyone, I cant suss this one out and I'd be grateful if someone could confirm what is correct.....? We are currently using B & D Codes for students that are educated off-site, however our attendance report for the student shows 00% - This is obviously having a huge impact on our attendance figures. I think before they use to be always at 100% Could you let me know what the correct procedure is? I have read Capita KB115611
  12. I know that the only problem is the lack of detail about SurfProtect. It's basic but does the job. The answer to your question is Yes it can filter by AD groups if you can enable ICAP on your DHCP so it forwards there AD details to the SurfProtect. My only criticism is the lack of reporting. It doesn't exist! Not an issue if you're a small primary but secondary will need something on site such as Censornet or Impero ect for user based reporting.
  13. We're using a 100mb Fibre Lease Line from Exa-Networks. really happy with them and I'm surprised no one has already mentioned them. Free cloud filtering called SurfProtect. Much cheaper than most LEA offerings...
  14. I guess it depends on budget but in the classrooms we have the Lexmarks C790 series. What I like about them is that you can VNC to the screen on the front of the printer! Saves me walking around the school!
  15. I would recommend the Mega Pram

  21. I was pretty impressed with LearnPads especially from a management side of things....
  22. Strange as I thought the LGFL would have had this all sorted. Our broadband supplier only allows Google safe search and we also have an onsite filter doing the same job. Our staff and students relies heavily on a Google Image for various research.
  23. Sorry guys, I've only been asked to post it on here on behalf of the school. Will contact them tomorrow about adding it to their website!
