  1. Hi Everyone, Just wanted to see what your views are on this. Today the engineer turned up to decommission our Forest Root server to the new but rather than doing a fresh install he got out his external drive and used Symantec Backup to take a snapshot of the system and transferred this to the new. (he’s coming back tomorrow to finish off) My issue is that he upgraded to OS from Win2K to 2003, so basically sitting on top of our old OS with legacy files just sitting around. Does this replicate any problems we had on our old server to the new……? (if any) I’ve always preferred to do a fresh install as I tend to find an upgrade sitting on an old OS causes slower performance. Is this RM purely just cutting corners or is this the way to do this? Cheers Matt
  2. Hi Everyone, If you were to buy a new switch what speed would you buy? Do you buy a 10/100 24 ports with a 2Gbit uplink or 1Gbit for all ports? Thanks Matt
  3. The script we use is provided by our LEA, I have resolved this issue by removing the -U -P . Everything back to normal now
  4. SIMS - Find it being very slow when running on clients and hungry for very memory.
  5. Does anyone have the notes that tells you what this update fixes or improves? Cant find any ?
  6. Hi Guys, Same issue to what you've all been talking about. We need to replace our CC3 Forest Root Server and RM will charge £ 1,800 to commission it BUT if we buy our hardware from some where else they will bump this up to £2,800???? I've had a few problems in the past and its put me off from buying RM servers. What are your views on this? Personally think its a rip off!! Though RM did educational discounts?
  7. 2008-11-20 13:46:35.76 Logon Login failed for user 'sa'. [CLIENT: 10.18.52.5]
  8. Reported no errors. Only took about 5 Seconds!
  9. Thats who set it up before me, I thought that was a bit strange. Will CheckDB later. i think our DB needs a good sorting out......
  10. Yep Double checked its the same as what i used. OSQL -E -S ADM-Sr-001\Sims2005 -Q "exec sp_password NULL, 'newpassword', 'sa'" And this seemed to work. Like i said before the backup script worked fine before i changed the sa password because i was unable to use DBAttach. The script I'm using is: OSQL -S ADM-Sr-001\Sims2005 -E -N -Q "exec ccsfms.sims.db_p_transfer_login" OSQL -S ADM-Sr-001\Sims2005 -E -N -Q "exec sims.sims.db_p_transfer_login" OSQL -S ADM-Sr-001\Sims2005 -Usa -Ppasswordsql-2005 -n -Q "BACKUP DATABASE SIMS TO DISK = 'F:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server 2005\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\Nightly\SIMSSQL.BAK'" OSQL -S ADM-Sr-001\Sims2005 -Usa -Ppasswordsql-2005 -n -Q "BACKUP DATABASE CCSFMS TO DISK= 'F:\Program Files\MICROSOFT SQL Server 2005\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\NIGHTLY\CCSFMS.BAK'" net stop mssql$sims2005 net start mssql$sims2005
  11. Me again! Since changing the sa password my backups are now failing, When the SQL Script runs it says failed login for Sims & FMS..... I have looked at the script under -Usa -Ppassword and its is the same password as i changed it too the other week. Is there another table in the database which needs updating? cheers guys
  12. I have set up a Query Based Distribution Group on the OU = Teaching Staff. When i preview the results under the Query Based Distribution Group properties it displays all the members which is everybody that i want. But when sending an email to allteachingstaff@domain it returns to me as an NDR: Your message did not reach some or all of the intended recipients. The following recipient(s) could not be reached: All Teaching Staff on 17/11/2008 13:55 The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address. So i then went to message tracking and it seems to be getting as far as: SMTP: Message Categorized and Queued for Routing. SMTP: Non-Delivered Report (NDR) Generated. Its almost creating an NDR because it doesn't have an Email Account in the store but i thought a Query Based Distribution Group doesn't need one.
  13. Ah Brilliant, Cheers for that it worked - My SQL knowledge is very limited. Don't understand how it could use the same login on the script to do a backup. but wouldn't let me use it anywhere else.
  14. How do i do this as sa isn't part of the system manager. Do i use ChSaPwd.exe?
  15. the exact message i get is "Login Failed for user 'sa'." Cant really understand if its backing up with sa - surely it should work for other database tasks such as dbattach
  16. Very strange problem i went to do a backup last night but couldn't get the SA user to work. so i checked nightly backup script to see what password it was using, and sure enough it was correct. So how comes its backing up with SA user but im unable to use it under DBAttach....? Any ideas?
  17. We are looking into VPN for our teacher laptops, Could you tell me if you need any additional licensing???
  18. I'm Back ! I have noticed when a teacher loads up SIMS to take a register it can take a while to launch due to the white box that checks for updates - It stays on the screen could even be up to 5mins - 20mins! saying "Checking Digital Signature" then it evntually loads up. Does any of you guys have this problem? Remember the laptop is running over the wireless, XP SP2, RM CC3 Installed using latest version of SIMS via the RM Management Console. Thanks Guys,
  19. We are using Axis Network cameras, and when i ping the camera the response is as follows: ping 10.18.52.77 -t Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] © Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. The switches are all Zyxel and all have up-to-date firmware. as that's the first thing i tried. haven't configured any VLANS.
  20. Cheers guys for your help, I'm going to work through and see if any of this helps. One last question do you recommend i switch on AWE to allocate memory? We have 4GB physical memory.
  21. We have just upgraded from SQL 2005 Express to the Enterprise Edition and i haven't really found much difference with the performance and running of SIMS. We have a sexy HP server with a high spec The Lan is more-less all running on 1000MB with fibre switches. Are there any tweaks i could do to SQL 2005 ? (what are your settings?) Any SIMS files that could be tweaked? Cheers Guys!
  22. Cheers, Just found it! Didn't realise they had merged it all into one branded as 'Lesson Monitor'
  23. We have an a lady that used to scan in the OMR sheets into Attendance 7 (from the Focus Menu) but now it just lists Lesson Monitor and no attendance 7?
  24. We have installed Lesson Monitor 7 and it seems that its removed Attendance 7!!! We would still like to use both systems as we only want to introduce Lesson Monitor for the year 11s. Anybody have any ideas? May have to log this with Capita. Matt
  25. Am I the only mug that’s working in the holidays? Basically we have just ordered Lesson monitor and they said they will send out the licence keys in the post to activate it from within sims. However I notice some schools don’t have sims installed on every teachers laptop and they just use a module/program to talk to the sims database. Is this true? Just don’t fancy installing Sims on every laptop if I can get away with just installing lesson monitor. Cheers
