Sophos Central and non-domain computers
Mjstone1 replied to Quatermass's topic in Enterprise Software
Yes they will, as long as they have internet connection, they will then report back to Sophos central for updates etc and you can see when they were last active etc under the devices section. -
Sophos Central and non-domain computers
Mjstone1 replied to Quatermass's topic in Enterprise Software
On the Sophos central page, you can download a windows installer from the Protect Devices section on the left hand side. For standalone laptops, I download this installer, then just install it on the laptops. They then automatically appear in Sophos central once installed. -
Got quite a few Lenovo V130 laptops of that spec. Have been impressed with them

I don't have experience of this system so not sure if this would work but if you can assign more than one facility to each class, could you create a unique FDK4 and TEK4 code for each of the KS3 classes, e.g. FDK471 for year 7 class 1, FDK481 for year 8 class 1 etc... then add all the FDK4xx codes to the KS4 classes, all with a limit of 1. Then if a KS4 class is scheduled, all of the FDK4xx codes will be triggered causing any of the KS3 classes to clash and if any KS3 class is scheduled, it would be one of the tags in the KS4 class causing a clash. It would mean the KS4 classes would have lots of facilities attached to them though.

We use Google Forms as well with the Form Publisher addon which allows us to send a editable google doc version of the sickness form to the staff who need to add more details and a pdf copy to office staff who just need to know who is off. https://gsuite.google.com/marketplace/app/form_publisher/827172627657

I have seen issues with VLC not playing DVDs on Windows 10 on some laptops, whereas on others it works fine. I find that if VLC isn't working it will normally work using Media Player Classic instead though: https://mpc-hc.org/

Papercut multi users to one code
Mjstone1 replied to Turnitoffandonagain's topic in Enterprise Software
If you used delegated print release you would be able to create a group of all the students and then allow the teacher to release any job printed by anyone in that group. Or did you want any student in that group to be able to release all print jobs? If so using the bulk update to update every user in a group to be able to release any job printed by that group may work. https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/DesignatedPrintReleaseConfiguration -
Can you print to the printers from the Mac and release the jobs from there? I have seen this issue before with Papercut when the driver has been set incorrectly on the Mac for the device and although the jobs appear it doesn't release the job when pressing print. I haven't set mine up to print from iPads though, I only share a printer from a Mac server to other Macs in the school but could be related to the drivers with those symptoms Another thing that might be worth double checking as well is in the device settings for the MFD on papercut under print release, are the queues you are using ticked to allow for release?

We use Freshdesk and the updated version this year is now free for unlimited agents. There are less reporting tools in the free options but I find it sufficient without these tools

Does anyone know of a company who will collect old kit for free?
Mjstone1 replied to L3OUGH's topic in Green Computing
Thank you for mentioning these. I tried PRM Green technologies who I usually use but they couldn't collect some of my items this time around as some of it isn't general ICT waste as got some hoovers in there etc. Tried greenbytedisposal and they can collect more or less all of it! -
Hi ReverentCreature, this only seems to work on the release stations not on the photocopiers sorry. We have it set up here so as when a member of staff logs in they can only release their own jobs, students mainly print to printers which don't have the hold/release queue enabled and are only used within lessons. You could set up a different user for each of the teacher's year groups, e.g. year6 so then to release student printing the teacher has to log in with year6 instead of their own account which would separate the students and teachers jobs

I have just looked on our papercut and there is an option there under options and general that says enable "cancel all" and "release all" buttons which can be unticked. This looks like it will disable these buttons directly from papercut to save you logging in to each of the copiers advanced options

On our Ricoh Photocopiers we had to do this via a timeout setting on the device itself rather than through papercut. Papercut have some details on here which are specific to different manufacturers on how to change the timeout settings. https://www.papercut.com/kb/Main/EmbeddedSoftwareTimeouts

How to remove the grayed PAC URL in the LAN settings windows
Mjstone1 replied to genesis's topic in Windows Server 2012
I cleared the box on Windows 7 by doing this. If you enable the use automatic configuration script option in control panel, then open regedit and go to: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings There is then an AutoConfigURL entry. If you change that to blank then reopen the internet options from control panel it should be unticked and the box should be blank I don't have Windows Server 2012 to test it on but am assuming it is the same entries- 1 reply

In AC2, if you choose the window menu, then choose VPP assignments you can view all the serial numbers of iPads linked to an app. Choose the serial number of the broken iPad and click revoke license.

I use freshdesk which works well, especially with staff being able to email a support email address and not necessarily need to go to the site to create an account. When staff have emailed they then get an email asking them to create an account if they want to. It does also support Active Directory integration: https://support.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/2018-active-directory-integration and has a log me in plugin for remote support: https://support.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/articles/29369-the-logmein-rescue-app I haven't used these two options though so can't say how well they work etc

Depending on what software the teachers use already, we are currently moving to Promethean ActivPanels with ActivInspire. I am impressed with them and they provide a good quality picture and 10 point touch. The teachers feedback has been good from them as well. We are also looking in to classflow online which can then be used alongside mobile devices with student slides and teacher slides etc

Push Wesite shortcuts via Configurator 2
Mjstone1 replied to lionsl2005's topic in How do you do....it?
If you go in to edit the profiles in Configurator, at the bottom of the settings there is an option for web clips. If you set these up with the different links they will appear like apps on the iPad home screen if the iPad has that profile on. Thanks
