  1. What do have as a core switch and what wireless do you have or plan to have? 250 users can easily become >750 devices attached to the network either physically or via wireless. The 2530 is well within your budget which would stretch to a 5800 core switch to support 4 x 10G SFP+ links from the edges. The 5800 can be expanded to 8 x SFP+ ports . The 5800 will also route your VLANs which I assume you would want. HTH

  3. IRF has a major advantage in that it can exist not only across DACs but also SFP+ links which means you can easily split a stack or a core across multiple locations. Also the 5130 with built in SFP+ ports on the front make them cheaper than 2920s with stacking module and 10G port expansion card(s).
  4. 1. How many devices do you have 2. You say that your wired network is not too bad - What is it? Remember that wireless networks do one simple thing - get more people onto your wired network. How would your wired network perform if all of those wireless devices were attached physically? 3. Are you also trying to cope with BYOD? 4. Bonjour may be an issue - Have you VLAN'd off the wireless traffic or is is all flat? HTH
  5. As already stated, the 2920 can only stack to 4 and will need stacking modules to do so. The 5130 on the other hand will go to 9 in a true IRF using DACs. As previous posters have stated, the 2920 is from the Procurve range which is very popular in edge situations. Some people prefer to stick with one operating system and therefor go for the 5130 in the edge. The 5820 is a fine core switch but have a look at the 5700. Unless you need OSPF and MPLS (5900), the 5700 is a very capable 10G switch. HTH

  8. Seems very slow to me. What switching are you using?
  9. Just remember that even the 5400R is still 2:1 blocking on the 10G ports as opposed to 4:1 on the older model. If you are considering VOIP you might like to look at the 5800, 5900 series comware in an IRF as opposed to a phisical chassis(with the 5700 acting as a PE to a 5900 if necessary). The flexibility of a core distributed over multiple locations connected with SFP+ is an attraction not just for resiliency but also from a DR perspective, especially if you are virtualised.
  10. The 1920 builds on the features of the 1910 offering ACL, 802.1x and VLAN support. Probably the most importand advacnce is the addition of two SFP uplink ports. Hope this helps.

  14. I am inclined to disagree with this statement. The internal antenna version is best when the AP is ceiling mounted such that the radiation pattern is in a out and downward direction away from the base-plate whereas the external antenna version would be deployed wall mounted. Once again, a full RF site survey would reveal the best choice.
  15. A number of wifi manufacturers offer a Bonjour gateway which converts the broadcast packets to unicast to enable it to traverse the routed network without causing broadcast 'storms'. One example is here...Bonjour | Meru Networks

  17. Just be careful where you buy from. Some of the HP products listed as new on some websites have gone end of sale. They may still be new but won't be support by HP beyond 3 years of their EOS date.

  21. A wireless survey is more than just finding out what's coming from outside. Do you have any PIRs, or Microwave ovens for example? You cannot accurately specify the location of an AP without a survey. You can 'best guess' based on predictive heat maps etc but there is no replacement for a guy with an AP on a tripod marching around the school with a laptop gathering real data and picking out interferers. I see from the quotes that some have spec'd the AP1020 and one has spec'd the AP832. This suggests that nobody has really discussed with you what you want, what you're trying to achieve, how much coverage you need, how many concurrent connections you see now and in the future, how many kids in your classrooms etc.
  22. Where are you geographically? A local (ish) reseller might provide a full RF wireless survey Free of Charge if you're not too far away from them as part of a no obligation consultancy. You could explore this option with the three who have quoted.
  23. Did the company that visited perform a proper wireless survey with their recommended AP discovering coverage, interferers, AP preferred locations etc? Any wireless quote worth considering will be preceded by a survey.
  24. The clip should release the AP from the bracket. It should slide and release once the clip is pressed.
  25. +1 for the CLI menu, just to get you started. It's a step away from the GUI but still menu driven which some people are more comfortable with.
