Why hasn't "Eurotrash" been relegated to BBC4 yet?

You won't believe how stupid this is. I was watching a YouTube video where the speech was completely low and in trying to do diagnostics, I half pulled out my headphones and the speech sound burst in to life. So it seems the PC doesn't like the 3 ring iPhone headphones like in the middle of this picture and instead wants a 2 ringed standard headphone, like the phone at the bottom. I guess plugging in only the first 2 rings is a workaround for now, but it gives a horrible crackly feedback on the sound unless I plug it in fully at which point I lose the speech audio!

I have an RM Mini PC which I am temporarily using. It doesn't seem to have an internal speaker so I have been using my Apple iPhone headphones with the PC. The problem I'm experiencing is that even though the volume is at the highest level in Windows, it's still really low. Especially when I'm watching a YouTube video or something with speech. The background volume/music seems to play high, but the speech is terribly low to the point where you can hardly hear. When I do a test in control panel, the sound is really loud through the the headphones, but it's just really bad when watching anything with speech. Any ideas what I can do to get all the sound to work properly?

I personally don't think the Wii U (and the 3DS) are savable at this point and they need to start focusing on their next console and handheld. But, before they do, they need to realise that they are at a crossroad and the way they choose to go will define their future in the industry. Personally, I think they have 2 options: Option 1: Take on Sony and Microsoft at what they do best. Design a powerful gaming console and bring the gamers the games they want such as CoD, GTA, FIFA etc. With the addition of favourites like Mario, Mario Kart, Zelda and other Nintendo exclusives, they may actually give the "big two" a decent challenge. Option 2: Stick to their bread and butter of releasing a lower end console compared to the Playstation and Xbox, but do it cheaper, much cheaper! For Nintendo, option 2 seems the most likely. The problem here is that the Wii did well on initial sales, because of it's price. It's innovation on the motion sensor tech did great to aid these sales, but it targeted the very casual gamer. As soon as they got bored of Wii Sports, they didn't really bother going out to buy another set of games and the Wii sat in a corner and got forgotten about. Nintendo took the initial sales as a sign that people wanted another Wii with more features, but that really wasn't the case and the Wii U was far too expensive for what it offered. I personally can't see them going down the route of option 1, which is a shame because I think this is what made the N64 popular in that it was a decent enough rival to the PS1. They need to stop trying to over innovate. No one wants Nintendo's take on social networking on the 3DS, for that the majority have Facebook or Twitter. No one wants an expensive handheld gaming device, for that they already have iOS, Android or WP8. If Nintendo aren't gonna take on Sony & Microsoft, the only way forward is going down the route of creating a decent console and a decent handheld (Get rid of all the 3DS business that hurt everyones eyes and bring back the Game Boy!) and selling it at a much cheaper price. Get the Nintendo titles on it that everyone loves and get the indie developers in to help boost the games. It's not the strongest of business plans, but it's the one that Nintendo will most probably go for. Failing that, the only way forward for them really, is down the same route as Sega.

I've never had issues with DiskMaker X, but it does take an awfully long time of looking like it's not doing anything before it suddenly completes.

It should be in the Applications folder. "Install OS X Mavericks" or something similar.

I'm not an expert here, and I may be completely wrong, but as far as I'm aware, there was a rather big change from 10.6 to 10.7 server. (Not so much from 10.7 to 10.8 and 10.9) So, an upgrade might break quite a few things. Also, I set up my 10.7 server from scratch and the AD/OD setup was slightly different in that there was a few bits of trust related stuff that you needed to do, but the main principle was still the same. It might be worth trying the setup in a test (virtual) environment before going for broke in the real environment.

I need to purchase a single PC for my new office. It must be CC4 compatible. Can someone please recommend a PC, preferably an ultra slim form factor with the following minimum specs: Intel Core i7 8GB RAM 500GB - 1TB Hard Drive USB 3.0 Ports I want to get something powerful as it needs to have longevity and also run test VMs etc. An all in one touch screen option would be nice, but I have a feeling the price may be a little too high.

So, I've exported all my PSTs to a folder (E:\PSTs) and I've installed the PST Capture Tool. I've successfully transfered a whole load of PSTs to Exchange Online, however, I'm getting the following error on a lot of the mailboxes: Now, what is unusual, is that on some of the mailboxes, if I try it and let it fail and then retry the import a day or so later, it goes through without any failure. However, I still have a lot of mailboxes where it won't import at all. Any ideas how I can get resolve the error?

Well, today was my last day with RM. Been with RM for 4 years (TUPE) and on site with my school for 10 years. I'll be sad to leave some very close friends that I made at the school, but it's definitely time for change and to move on to (hopefully!) bigger and better things! Onwards and upwards!

Personally, I don't get this argument. I have a MacBook Pro and I use OS X as my primary OS for everyday general browsing and bits and bobs. But, I also have VMware Fusion virtual machine on it running Windows 8.1 because sometimes I just need to do something in Windows which you can't do on a Mac. I find Microsoft Office much more feature filled on Windows and I am a heavy user of OneNote. Something I couldn't do on a Mac until last week. I also do a lot of work using Paint.Net and there isn't really an as easy to use alternative on OS X (Not that I know of anyway!) What I'm trying to say is that it's nice that my MacBook can do both. I can run OS X and use the features and apps attributed to it and I can fire up a VM or BootCamp and use Windows when needs be. All in 1 machine. Not something I can do seamlessly on a PC/Laptop (Yes, I know you can do Hackint0sh etc, but it's an awful lot of faffing around whereas it's as easy as pie on a Mac). Essentially, although you are paying a lot more for a MacBook than a Windows laptop, you are getting the flexibility of the best of both worlds, being able to seamlessly run OS X and Windows. And yes, I do feel that the build quality of a MacBook is highly better than most Windows laptops. I've had many laptops in the past, Acer, Toshiba, Samsung and even a Vaio. None of which really came close to the quality feel of my MacBook which is now out of the 3 year AppleCare warranty, but still going strong. Also, who said you can't change the battery on a MacBook? (Sure, it might not be as easy as replacing a standard removable battery, but it's not the hardest thing in the world).

I was speaking to a colleague who had an interesting suggestion. Seeing as I only have 30 users I am migrating, it might be an idea to create the accounts manually on Office 365, export the PSTs from Exchange and then import in to Office 365. Yes, I know that I will lose password syncing, but I guess it isn't too bad considering the ease compared to an "official" method. Any comments on that?

Can I do this migration without the need for an SSL certificate. I really don't fancy buying an SSL certificate when I'm not really going to need it once I've migrated over to Office 365? (Of course I'm presuming that I won't need it!)

Ah, no, I would need passwords to be synced. Doing a bit of reading, isn't a staged migration the best way to go as I want to be completely rid of the local Exchange afterwards.

Hi Alex, I have no idea what cutover or hybrid are. So, I'll go with whatever is most easiest! I haven't installed DirSync or anything else on the server so far. All I have done is configured the Office 365 admin panel, received approval from Microsoft for the school's domain and signed up for A2.

I will be migrating my local school Exchange 2010 to Office 365 this week. I have already signed up for plan A2 and the domain has been verified with Microsoft. I have advised the staff that emails will not be available for the duration of the spring break. I have approximately 30 mailboxes and I need to migrate all the emails to Office 365. So, does anyone have any tips on how I should proceed?

You should have given your 30 day notice, they would have come back with a better offer!

Seriously guys, if you are out of contract, call up and threaten to leave. You are under no obligation to leave and you have to give 30 days notice. You can call up all the way to day 29 and withdraw your notice to cancel. But you're pretty much guaranteed to get a phone call from Virgin Media offering you a MUCH better deal. And even then, make sure you haggle! For those who don't get Virgin Media where they live, do the same with Sky or BT. Tell them you are moving to Virgin (or any other competitor!) they won't know you can't get it and they will offer you a decent package to stay.
