Does anyone know what the cheapest method of obtaining Windows 8.1 Pro is? The school have an OVS license which includes upgrades to Windows 8.1 Pro. Would it be cheaper to buy a full copy of Windows 8.1 Pro OEM or would it be better value to buy an older version of Windows 7 Professional and use our upgrade?

Isn't Paul Thurrott impressed by everything with a Microsoft logo? The argument about the keyboard & lap usability would be easily solved by something like a hard aluminium keyboard that the tablet could dock in to. Kinda like the HP Envy X2. This would certainly give it more of a comfortable use on the lap.

I can't install any apps. Email is also an issue as the video sizes are far greater in size than the max limit allowed for sent attachments.

With reference to eSafety and safeguarding issues, I wanted to know how others tackle the issue of transferring data off iPads and other Tablet devices? (We also have Tesco Hudls). I've always thought that the easiest way to tackle data such as photos and videos, was to open a school Google account and upload it to Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox etc. But this seems to open up a can of worms with regards to safeguarding. Is there an easy way to achieve this? The cloud solution has always enabled end users to manage their own data, however, if iTunes or some other sync method is required, then it becomes a cumbersome task for the technician. Also, how do you deal with data transfer on Android devices?

The school has several iPads which have been locked down by an Apple Configurator profile. However, the MacBook which had Apple Configurator and the settings was stolen some time last year. It seems the only way round this is to wipe the devices clean and start again. Is there any way that I can transfer photos and any other data off the iPad? When I tried to connect it to my Windows PC, iTunes complained that the iPad was locked by Apple Configurator. I also can't download any apps to try and transfer the files to the cloud or remove the profile. Any ideas? Or is this gonna be an awfully long job of reconfiguring a stackload of iPads?

I definitely agree about the split screen, especially seeing as Nintendo switched off online services for the Wii yesterday. If the game doesn't support split screen, you're doomed to single player!

£1,649 for the Core i7/512GB For me, I can never justify the costs on these types of devices because it's a one time purchase with no chance of upgrade in the future. Just like the MacBook Pro Retina Display, I'd want one with 16GB RAM and 512GB Flash, because neither are upgradable at a later date. You have to spend the big bucks at the time of purchase and when you see the final cost, you can never bear to part with that amount!

That's the Moto G, it doesn't have an SD Card slot. You sure you didn't mean a different model as that model has been out for ages. Also, you can get the 8GB model for £99 from Tesco and an unlock code from ebay for £2.04.

What model of iPhone and how much?

Yeah, my new place has terrible signal for 3. I can hardly get a signal at all. It's been pretty bad at home lately and they've sent me a Home Signal Box the other day which I haven't set up yet. But that doesn't help my coverage at work!

I just cannot get on with Android at all. Bought my mum and sister a Moto g because they both wanted a cheap smartphone, but I find Android horrible and clunky. I'm counting down the days till the iPhone 6 release because my current iPhone 4 is getting very aged and the time taken to load/switch apps is definitely showing now - and very annoying!

I got a recent retentions deals from Virgin Media which I posted here. Prior to joining VM, I was with Be and paying nearly £35/Month for 9Mbps & BT phone line. Moved over to VM and got 60Mbps and telephone for £34, with the broadband half price for the first 6 months. If I couldn't get VM, I'd probably look at a Sky Fibre Unlimited deal.

I had that very old feeling when my 7 year old daughter stumbled across a CBBC VHS tape. She was delighted to see CBBC and then asked what on earth the big black rectangle thing was!

My first console was a SNES, but I was definitely a big Sonic fan. I went with the SNES however, because most of my friends had SNES' and we could trade games. I still remember the sense of achievement when I finally completed Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World (Without cheating!) and not forgetting Street Fighting 2 on Level 7 with Ryu! (Damn that fight battle with M. Bison!) And I had many a fun hours playing Starwing (Star Fox) - Albeit very frustrating!

Everyone called me by my first name at my previous school, primarily because the teachers couldn't remember my surname so they'd just tell the students to go call me by my firstname! When I joined back in 2004 half of year 11 knew me personally because I ran the local football team, so they all called me by my first name anyway! I couldn't imagine calling my school teachers by anything other than Sir/Miss - In fact, if I see them in the street these days, I'll still call them by Sir/Miss - It's a respect thing. I know ex students who came back as teachers at my last place and still called some of their fellow staff who taught them Sir/Miss. I think it's good and helps students to develop some respect. Especially in a time where respect is going out of the window!

Unfortunately this only works with folders and not individual files. EDIT: I just noticed this reg tweak has a file scan addition. I'll give it a try when I get home!

I read a rumour some where that the reason for this omission was to avoid anti-competitive lawsuits etc - But it's still annoying that it's missing!

I've never really looked past MSE pre-Windows 8, and I'm happily running Windows Defender in Windows 8. However, I don't like that it doesn't have a right click context menu option to scan a file or folder for viruses. I'm tempted to open a Barclays account and put a pound in and just leave it there to get the free Kaspersky offering for my Mac

Has anyone heard on the grapevine if there is a MacBook Pro Refresh due any time soon? I need to purchase a 15" Retina Display MBP but was wondering if I should hold off until after WWDC or later?

Does anyone know how I can check the spam filter on Office 365? The dashboard reports that I've had "943 messages received, 645 blocked by filtering." However, when I browse to the Exchange Admin Centre > Protection > Quarantine - I get "There are no items to show in this view." Any ideas? Am I looking in the wrong place?

How's their support and service? Have you had any issues?

Just wondered if anyone had any experience with Jigsaw School Apps - Our head is interested in this product and they offer a free 28 day trial so I'll probably go for it and see how it goes, but just wanted to know if anyone has used them and what they think? I was slightly concerned that the main telephone number on their website redirects to a mobile. Sounds a bit like a one man band app programmer!
