We started looking at LTSB, but had some problems getting it to work with some of our software bits (and it was a pain not having some features baked in), so moved on to Edu which is working okay.

Do you mean alphabetically by file name? Our papercut follow-me jobs seem to print in the order they were sent. So it's likely to be something in the release station that's re-sorting them. I guess the user can't just send her jobs in the order she wants to release them in.

I would agree. For us the whole point of a UPS is to keep the servers going for 20-30 minutes while they shut down cleanly. And to protect against surges, brownouts, some numpty flicking the wrong switch, etc. We do have a generator onsite. But it's really only for the Sports Hall lighting, as getting 300+ students out of a pitch dark room after the power went out during an exam wasn't fun. Generators need servicing, maintenance, running up 6 months or so. So don't forget to factor that into your costs.

We got edge blocked using SRP, by blocking "C:\Windows\SystemApps\Microsoft.MicrosoftEdge*" It doesn't stop it trying to open, but it crashes out straight away with an Access Denied error.

To be honest, I don't see why the Christmas-day special has to be based on a Christmas story anyway. Some of the better ones have only been tangentially related to the holidays (like the Titanic one - I can't even remember how that's Christmasy).

I thought last night's episode was one of the best so far (admittedly not a high bar), I definitely preferred it to Arachnids (and Ghost Monument, and the pilot TBH).

We have 224 (ish) GPOs. (1500 pupil secondary) Mostly due to a combination of using "thin" policies, and having a bunch of legacy stuff that's there for reference.

What about using Windows-Key and P? (As in hold down the windows key and press P to cycle through the dual monitor modes)

Just to get this straight. Are you setting the users' Home drives under the "Profile" tab in AD user properties? Or are you just using GPO Folder Redirection policies to point users to a folder? The way I'd do it would be to set the "Home Drive" in the users' AD properties and then use the "Map Documents to home drive" setting. (But that's just because it's the way I was taught and have always done it).

IMO the endpoints are no less secure than those on the Curriculum network and (at least for us) all the heavy hitting anti-ransomware stuff is server-side anyway.

I've noticed the same problem all through New-Who. Even in otherwise great episodes, we get 10 minutes from the end with no resolution in sight and then it's rushed through.

I did think some of the moralising in this Arachnids... was kinda silly. The Doctor doesn't want to kill the spiders, but locking them up so they can starve to death is okay? Otherwise it was fun but fairly un-memorable. Love Graham's ark though, Bradley Walsh is the standout actor of the series for me.

I think it depends on the size and structure of the school. The last school I was at with a split network was fairly small (single form entry primary) with 2 office staff. Domain trust allowed them to access the curriculum shares and none of the teaching staff needed access to anything on the admin network. There was practically no management from my point of view. So if the choice is between keeping on with something that works fine and that I never need to touch and having to adopt the SIMS server, I know what I'm leaning toward. (Hint, it's me not having to touch SIMS) Where as, the 1500 pupil secondary I'm at now would be a nightmare to run with a split domain.

Swapping things over or installation of kit we already have (or ask the site team). If it's a new installation then we get it done as part of purchase. So, our new Smart interactive screens come with installers, but when we wanted to move the old clevertouch it was us and the site team re-hanging it.

Just to offer a contrasting point of view: The first school I worked in had a split network. County managed the admin network I managed the curriculum one. Sometimes I ended up troubleshooting the printers and such on the admin side, but it was no more hassle than fixing it on the curriculum network. So.. Are you being asked to manage (or are currently managing) both networks? Is there something wrong with the Admin network? If the answer to these is "no", then I'd leave it as is. If the answer is yes, then fair enough, go for it.

I'd check what sort of support contract provision they have with County/captia. The in primaries I worked in the "admin network" had been set up by Captia who would refuse to support it if it were merged into the curriculum network (at least under the current contract). They very much liked to be able to do their own thing with the admin network and not have other techs messing with it. Otherwise, I can't think of any reason why you can't do what your planning.

I assume you're duplicating your display between the teacher's monitor and the projector? Have none of your staff asked for bigger monitors? What happens when you get newer HD monitors? and the image looks all stretched? I mean that would be my biggest argument to move from XGA to HD (regardless of whether you use a projector or screen). With regards to sound, we use soundbars above the boards, but they take their input from the board, so having one cable between the PC and board makes for simpler cabling. Also the boards are a lot brighter (actual brightness of the image on the wall) than a projector can realistically be. If people don't use the boards interactively, then maybe look at going for non-interactive display screens.

Have you looked at FOG (https://fogproject.org/). We used to use it before we moved to MDT. Or Clonezilla (https://clonezilla.org/). I only ever used the bootable USB version, but there's a server based option. TBH, both of these are probably just as much of a faff to get set up as MDT/WDS. But are probably better at handling full disk images. What's the problem with using MDT installation tasks to build your PC? (Personally I found this much easier to set up and way more flexible than disk imaging setups.)
