Unfortunately, no. We installed a 3rd party calculator and are looking at moving to UEV and local profiles instead. If we do come up with something then I'll post it here.

We had similar issues and pinned it down to roaming profiles. For us, if the user already had a cached profile on that machine (we delprof everything at shutdown) then it broke the modern apps (like calculator/photos/paint3d). Clearing down the users roaming profile fixed it (the powershell scripts are no good as they have to be run as an administrator in the affected user's logon environment - and we can't do both with staff/student accounts), but it breaks again as soon as the user logs onto a machine with an old profile cached.

Hi Guys, I'm trying to get UE-V working here and everything's going okay apart from Chrome. We've been using online sync in chrome so all I need to get is the part of the profile that remembers the user logon. After testing I've found the 3 files that I need for this. Google\chrome\user data\Local State Google\chrome\user data\Profile#\Preferences Google\chrome\user data\Profile#\Web Data The fact that the last two could be in Profile 1/2/3 and so on is secondary to the fact that the xml I'm using (posted below) doesn't seem to pick up anything. I'd buy Preferences and Web Data not coming up because of the wildcard not being supported (or maybe not being used right) - although UE-V path validation tool says its fine. But at least the Local State should be picked up okay. If anyone can see what I'm doing wrong, or has a working xml that will roam the chrome logged on user, I'd be grateful. Thanks for any help. I'd suggest power-plan GPOs. Password protected screensaver is a must for data protection IMO.

FYI, the motion sensor can be disabled in the menu, in which case the "stand by" button works like a normal off switch.

Out of interest, 12 inches shorter than what? We've nearly finished replacing all our old projector/IWB combos with Smart SB6065 screens (which I think are the predecessor to the MX line). The only complaint we've had is the lack of remote, which means the teacher has to get up and walk over to the board to freeze it. We sold them on using extended display instead and they seem to really like that. Not having a remote dose seem like a silly decision on Smart's part and I'm surprised your teacher didn't bring that up as well. Or do the MX boards have remotes?

I guess the question is what are they trying to achieve by this? Stop people doing things on their phones or stopping people using "unprotected" internet connections? (which IMO isn't clear in the web article) Most staff (at least for us) connect their phones to the school wifi. Which means they aren't using 3/4G but can still go online and do "stuff" - Staff filtering is relaxed enough they can get to twitter/facebook and most home emails. But it is still restricted and (maybe more importantly) logged.

It might work, but you'd probably have to allow it connect every now and then to authenticate the account - not sure how long you can keep using offline mode for. And you'd definitely run into problems as soon as it wanted to update. Unless... You could install steam to a DMZ (or at least all the steam sites whitelisted) server and leave it running to get updates and all that jazz. Then use a script to copy the whole steam directory to your clients computers (you'd need to do the first time install to get the registry stuff setup) so they keep up-to-date. Then you've just got the logging on account authentication stuff to mess with. It's worth remembering that steam requires email verification for each new pc the account logs into. This is a pain for managed accounts but might (if the students don't have access to their home emails) stop people logging on with their own accounts.

We use the same compu cleaner one as bald_pig. Works great for what we need.

I just tried with a couple of steam games from our gaming club PCs and was surprised to find both of them were perfectly happy running without steam being installed. Of course this is wildly against the Steam EULA. But then so are shared accounts.

Depends how much of a pain it is to run cables and whether you want to future-proof. We had serial cables put into our labs back in the day. When the boards were upgraded newer cables couldn't be run so the serial cables were re-terminated to usb and they're pretty dodgy. If we'd had cat5 put in to start with and used converters then no need to re-terminate. Also if it's a longer distance than is rated (more for usb than hdmi) then cat5 converters would work better.

I kind-of doubt the scarlet will be powerful enough to both 8k and 120htz/fps at the same time and it will be an either or thing.

Still doesn't really explain why (when gddr6 is going to be faster) they're using some of the SSD for vram? Unless as bald_pig says, it's a faster file swap because both regions are on the same silicone. It still makes me think there's going to be some sort of optane/tiered-storage-spaces caching going on in there. Especially when in the video one of the guys says "The combination of the SSD and Solid State Drive..."

Wasn't MCC supposed to be coming to steam as well? (presumably sometime after MS) Haven't seen any of the bethsida stuff yet, but Cyberpunk and Jedi Fallen Order are cool, and 12 minutes looked interesting.

That "SSD as virtual RAM" comment is odd. Does that mean they're worried they haven't got enough system ram? Or are they saving money by just using the SSD for caching? The second seems likely, as most people would be expecting a 1tb drive (at least as an option) and going "full SSD" at that capacity is going to bulk up the price quite a bit.

Probably a couple of new 3d printers, ours are on the way out and I know the technologies teachers are jonesing for replacements.

Are their GDPR implications to using people's names as PC names (given the device name is pretty available).

We use roomnumber-role/unique id format for our computer names. For example the interactive board connected PC in room A123 would be "A123-IWB". Because of this nomenclature, we try to reuse PC names as closely as possible. But more often than not we're building a replacement with the old one in place so things like "A123-IWB-A" or A123-IWB-SSD" get used. Then the next time its re-imaged or replaced it'll go back to "A123-IWB" For us, it's really useful to be able to tell where a PC is physically when we look on AD. We did try using our asset ID as part of the name (so "PC-00123" and the like) but working out where it was physically was too much hassle so we went back to the location based naming.
