I hope not, as we just gave them to next students our "disadvantaged and needs a laptop" list. If that were the case wouldn't the admin passwords have to have come from the LA contact rather than our DfE/computercenter portal? - This is the part that's confusing me.

I've been asked to fully audit all the laptops we've sent out, including where they came from (the part we weren't already documenting) and I have an odd anomaly, I wonder if anyone can explain this. We're a LA maintained school so most of the laptops we sent out during lockdown 1 were got through the LA. But we also have 5 laptops that arrived around July, that appear to have come direct from the DfE (they show up in the computercenter dashboard under our login and our LA contact doesn't know anything about them), but no-one remembers us requesting anything apart from through the LA and they don't count toward our allocation on the DfE ordering portal. I assume this is just a thing that happened during the massive faff of launch, but was wondering if anyone else had anything similar happen?

Morning all, We've had to recreate a class Team in Teams. For now the old version of the Team still exists but the students have been removed from it. If the students have had an assignments and feedback done through the old Team would they still have any way off accessing this? Can we import the assignments and feedback to the new Team? Thanks for your help.

Years ago (I guess sometime in the 90s) I remember this being a problem if a mobile phone called a landline - the mobile had to end the call otherwise the line stayed open. I vaguely remember someone pocket-dialing us (presumably from a mobile) and we tried everything to either get the person's attention or end the call from our end (including unplugging the phone) and nothing worked.

If you license them to your on-site KMS server they'd have to connect it to your network every 180 days to reactivate otherwise license automatically revokes. Alternatively, if you have office 365 students can license their device by linking it to their 365 account. They leave, you disable the account the device is unusable without a factory reset which is going to prompt for a new license.

We're touch-screens in all the class/teaching rooms with projectors in the halls (same as robyholmes). I would say, no, there isn't any long term future projectors in teaching rooms. If they don't want interactivity, you could save money and go for something without touch (not my preference, but it's an option). Realistically, when would you be projecting bigger than 75" apart from a hall or auditorium? And a screen will be brighter and sharper than most projectors, especially once you get up to larger display sizes.

Boards are payed for from the central capital budget so departments don't get any individual say. When we first started the move from projector/IWB combos to full touch screens we polled the staff and did some AB testing with IT friendly teachers on different boards before making a whole school choice. But now they get the current Smart SB6000 series board (size is negotiable but more often than not dictated by the size/layout of the room more than anything else). (Initially we went with E70s but as Smart discontinued the line we're phasing them out) I don't see why you would let departments choose. It sounds like additional complexity and work for you, for not a lot of return. I mean they're all big screens that you hang on the wall and poke. (As we're all Smartboards I can't help with the second question) Edit: Oh and we're a secondary with approx 1500 students.

Was supposed to be our third parents event tonight. So far, I've been pretty impressed with how they've gone (tonight aside) I can't hold the failure against them too much, but I did feel that communications and updates were a bit lacking.

Our order of laptops arrived yesterday. For (presumably) a super low budget laptop, I'm pretty impressed with the build quality in the Dells.

Presumably there's some sort of regular update for when new people start though? (A scheduled SIMS report or something?)

Morning All, I've been asked to investigate what links there are between FMS and SIMS (for payroll and the like) as the school is worried we might be moving away from SIMS but would potentially Keep FMS. I assume you got the Preconfigured ones. In which case you need to contact your technical rep/supplier with the serial numbers and they'll give you the admin accounts for the devices.
