Sorry, DMS = Document Management Server. Had to look up the option, it's Tools -> Document Management Server. Once you've installed DMS and performed the remapping in the Migration guide (which is basically, after you've installed the DMS you will copy the folder over from the old one, rename it from SIMS2008 to SIMS2012 or whatever you SQL instance is and then restart the service), you will need to update the computer name in that menu in order to allow the DMS to work.

I did this for the first time this year too and actually for the most part it was a fairly painless experience. If you follow the guide in Resource ID 21835 you can't go too far wrong. In answer to your questions though: You should really use the Database Migration Tool as that will deal with everything automatically. Basically you download this and run it on your 2008 server which will backup the database and disconnect it for you. You then copy the database across to your 2012 server and run the tool after you have installed SQL 2012 and it will restore the database for you and you should be good to go. It should prompt you about the Backup paths and various other details throughout. This will depend on whether you currently update using Solus 2 or Solus 3. If you are using Solus 2 then you will be ok just to copy it across, if you are using Solus 3 then your setups directory might be out of date. What I did was copy the S Drive across, download the latest installable ISO and all the update ISO's since then and then overwrite the S drive with the ISO's in sequence which provided me a current S Drive with any various legacy parts still present. Document Server is how all the linked documents are stored on the server. You will need to install this from the Setup's folder on the S drive or can select it as an option when running SIMSINST in order to install the server components. Once you've got your SIMS server up and running, you'll need to go into the DMS setup option and update the server name to allow it to connect and work. I did Solus3 about 3 weeks after the rest of the migration and it's fairly easy to do following the migration guide at the back of the Install and Configure guide, Resource ID 21925. The only thing that got me was because our Solus3 Install uses Windows Integrated Auth, when I came to redirect my agents it didn't work properly because I didn't enter the SA details on the Configuration String Editor on the old server. Editing again and using the SA details it worked a dream after that.

I know that exact feeling! I'm probably not reading the Impero report correctly then, it seemed to suggest to me that over the last month you hadn't used Standby that much (or your machines hadn't entered standby which I might have expected to be higher). I could also be completely out on my expected power consumption amounts and confusing the bottom numbers and savings! It's interesting as it is a fairly hot topic here at the moment too and with my rather unscientific measuring I didn't get any (noticable) difference in power consumption between standby and shutdown. Thanks for replying though!

That's a nice interesting picture..... Can I ask, taking your previous comment before and the picture above - do you disable standby on your machines? If you do is it for any particular reason? (I'm just being nosey)

Thanks for the replies all, give's me something to think about. Reading some of the replies, once a term or on a major issue seems like a nice balance between the two. I spotted 2.7 had been released so just upgraded the test site this morning and off we went again. I quite like the idea of sticking with an LTS release for a little while too, should hopefully fit in quite nicely with the LTS for Ubuntu. Any more comments/votes welcome though!

Just curious really as I venture into the realm of relaunching and developing our Moodle with some staff - how often do you update Moodle? I'm currently testing with Moodle 2.6.3+ and was curious whether it is worth the work in upgrading Moodle every week or whether once a month/only when there is an issue is a better solution. I know really it should probably be every week but we'll see... it seems a bit of a hassle.

The only port I remember asking to be opened was port 587 to allow SMTP to work for our mail relay.

Sounds daft, but I've found a few times manually searching for the network and telling it to rejoin has helped increase the signal. My signal has got gradually worse recently on EE though in general.

I've looked at some possibilities with this, but not found a specific answer to this question: To use Azure AD to authenticate another service along with Password Sync from existing AD, do you need to pay for Azure AD to accomodate this?

Quick question - is the mono print queue just using a mono driver or could you change it to colour? I ask because of a recent issue I had when setting up our trial where I set up the colour and mono price defaults and applied to all the printers and when printing to a mono printer the colour price was charged. Might be something similar because if it is fixed to one it may well not be detecting that it has colour.

Try using outlook.office365.com instead, it should automatically redirect to the correct pod server then if it ever does change. Can't help otherwise as I configured a mailrelay onsite for the various things that email out for us.

Just been and double checked, it's this one: Computer Configuration -> Policies -> Administrative Templates -> System -> Group Policy -> Turn off Resultant Set of Policy Logging - set to enabled

If you only have 2 hosts and don't plan any time soon to increase to more then 3 it might also be worth looking at Veeam Backup Essentials. You buy it in 2 Socket bundles, so you would buy one licence for each of your hosts and it should work out cheaper then licencing just Veeam Backup and Replication I think.

What version of Windows have you imaged to, Windows 7 or Windows 8? We're Windows 7 here and it works without issue, I haven't got a 64bit Windows 8 install to test with. The only other thing I can suggest is trying to enable compatibility mode on the Button_B.exe to see if that helps matters - I assume you have tried right clicking on it and running as an administrator? What version of Button_B.exe does it say you have too?

You might want to look at trying to create a small mandatory profile and seeing if that helps matters?

Mind me asking if this was the one from the National College or a different one? It's something I've started thinking a bit about doing too, a bit less so recently but the thought is still there. Not sure if it's just project management I want instead now.
