We're getting far too many (say 10 or more) registers per day where the attendance officer is emailing teachers that haven't done their lesson register, but the teacher is adamant that they have done it, and saved it. It's too many staff, and too many reliable staff (including my IT Technicians daughter, new out of Uni), to be a case of forgetfulness or not remembering to save. Some are becoming repeat offenders, and these are quite possibly the less reliable ones, but others are just random. When the teacher goes into the register, it is all blanked out, just like the attendance officer says - yet they've definitely marked the class present and saved it earlier in the lesson. Has anyone else seen or experienced this that can suggest anything before I report it to Capita. I've a horrible feeling they're going to want our database and come back to me sometime after Christmas with an answer. Peter

Sorry, should have said that! They're (both?) also available as monthly, but for nearly the same cost as a year.

I'm a month ahead of you. NUL (Named User Licenses) are ~£4.50 per license. You pre-install the software on every PC in school, but only users with a NUL and Adobe ID (sync'd to your AD) can log in. The named users can also download and install at home and on tablets etc. Minimum 500 licenses per purchase. Each user can be signed into 2 devices at once. Logging into a 3rd device (allows you to) kill the session on the 1st device. SDL (Shared Device Licenses) are ~£20 per license. You install on every licensed PC in school. No home-use or tablet-use included. Minimum 25 licenses per purchase. We just bought 1800 NUL which covers Year 8-13 and 200 other users, either staff or year 7. You don't need to buy licenses for users that won't use it, and you could give half of year 7 licenses for 1 month, then re-assign them to the other half of year 7 for the next month, so they could all do the same module of work, but at different times of the term/year.

EXA Networks - The DDOS Fiasco
howartp replied to Tefters's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
An excellent report, thank you. I've passed it to SLT as a whole report, but copied the first few and last few paragraphs directly into the email for a non-technical explanation. Is there anything we (as network managers) need to be doing/watching/checking on our own firewalls - we're one of those schools who have EXA connection but our own firewall/filtering? Peter -
I think i've tempted fate. One of them isn't seeing any ribbon, the second is misaligning the card coming out of the duplex module so it hits the innards of the printer instead of feeding into the next part of its journey. Peter

I spoke to support this morning. The data will be available "at the end of the month, ish". They were working on it in the background as I spoke to them, but I gather they are dependant on the government baselines coming to them at some point in September before they can start to do their bit.

We have both - iPads for 95% of students, plus 10 IT suites in ‘lab’ scenario. How does 2 activations work in terms of “unactivating”? Can they just sign out/unactivate the old PC or is it a big faff with IT involvement?

Looking again at CC now we're in new finance year and a figure is in the budget. Site is 725 PCs, 2000 users. Shared Device License @ ~£20 is between £7,000 (minimum PCs I'd get away with) and £14,500 (site-wide). Named User License @ £3.67-£5.00 is between £7,340 (online price) and £10,000 (quoted by one of my resellers) What restrictions are there on either licenses that would swing me one way or the other, or hit a roadblock that I haven't foreseen? What "should" we be doing in education, all things being equal? Peter

We have the same. I’ve not checked for scripts but I don’t recall setting any as I know they can’t run!

We print about 1800 a year, between two Evolis Primacy printers. (One with mono ribbon, one with colour) First one is three years old, second one is two years old.

Consistently poor experience with EXA Networks
howartp replied to epoch_roots's topic in Internet Related/Filtering/Firewall
Just logged into my own account and "download"'d a file ok. Peter -
Just de-power each port and leave it off; they'll soon get in touch to tell you their phone doesn't work!

We did a VERY mini version of this exercise yesterday. WakeMeOnLAN (or other choice of app) lists IPs against MAC addresses and whether they're Up or Not. Reboot each buildings' POE switch (we have 100 switches but only 10 POE switches, ~one per building/area) one by one and see which phones go off, using the geographical VLAN as a guide. De-power the POE ports one by one/few by few.

I don't think your support will want to touch my Exa connection

Of course, if I run a 1gb test when i'm only patched to a 100mb switch then.... D'oh!
-
Eek... This thread has prompted me to run tests of our own, with fast.com and testmy.net Both returning 95mbps - we're on 1gb up/down! Time for a phone call!

Psshutdown run from server on scheduled tasks. 6pm, 8pm, 10pm or never, depending on location/user. Run via a batch file with “if exist noshutdown.txt....” at the top, to prevent it running on open evenings etc.

Definitely on the right DNS server? More than one server? Replication broken?

Error when adding new virtual center into Veeam
howartp replied to kennysarmy's topic in Enterprise Software
I had that this week. Had to add with fqdn (vSphere.school.domain) My old vSphere was added with just server name but 6.7 seems to need fqdn. -
You can setup SSO if the account you're logged onto the PC as matches the desired account, ie class5 That's then one-click.

We’ve had Kyocera MFDs in since August had the print driver (pull print) has always been defaulted to Mono Duplex. Two days ago, the driver forgot how to staple - a quick reboot of the copier that Kyocera’s driver searcher was looking at sorted that. However since then, the driver is defaulting to Colour Simplex, and I can’t find a way of persuading it otherwise? It’s set mono on the server, and I’ve saved a new profile with that in, but the new profile doesn’t become active for users unless they choose it. What am I missing?

Paxton Entry Touch - Connecting to 3cx
howartp replied to DGardiner's topic in Mobile Devices & Tablets
We have it setup with Avaya IP Office. Only problem is the Entry software loses its SIP connection every now and again and you can't hit "reconnect" as there's no such button. You've to change the saved password to something wrong, ie add a zero to it, save it (so it tries to connect with wrong password) then change it back to correct password and save again.
