I am free to purchase from whoever I want at the moment. Increased budgets are fine but I am still wondering what the sponsors themselves are getting out of it - I find it hard to belive they are doing it just for the public good.

thats what i don't understand - why do you need a sponsor - if they opt out of LA just get the money from govt - unless business is trying to make money out of it or religions are trying to push their agenda on to kids.

What's in it for the businesses?

A cheap way of providing resticted access - buy a 50 user licence for school guardian - force internet banned students through the proxy for that with only an approved list of sites and a custom block page

Probably not but I bet there is in west midlands. But my general point is there are too many planners, advisors, consultants on high pay and not enough front line staff. Quick edit - see sippo's post more work!

On another thread here - can't find it at the moment there was a warning about problems if you raise the domain functional level to server 2008 with exchange 2003 so be careful and do some research.

I feel sorry for the staff but they could be working on something more productive - an extra 240 technicians in schools that are short staffed as mentioned in several posts on here.

With HP Procurve - Vlans should be untagged for that port if you want traffic to go through to a station, printer or server - tagged is to allow traffic between switches - devices other than switches can't decode tagged traffic. I have got it all setup here with 5412 core switch - you can subnet your network and then have a gateway address for each subnet assigned as the ip address for each vlan on your core switch - these can then be used as the default gateway in different scopes on DHCP to assign ranges to different sets of machines. Hope that makes some sense. I searched various threads on here and used in conjunction with hP manuals.

If the machines are that old you would be better to replace them - 34 x £300 = approx £10,000 and delay upgrade to cc4 for a year. The upgrade will probably cost you that much in licences, servers, install etc. Vanilla solution would be cheaper but depends whether you have expertise to set it up and manage it.

We spent about 7K - two Dell R710 - 12GB of ram in each but will probably expand ram soon. Can run about 5 virtuals on each, maybe more.

We have no problem with office staff using 2007 on sims - some staff not gone over yet just because they don't like change :-)

It is out but just check sims compatability - they lag behind quite a bit.

I agree that homework should be scrapped - only as an optional extra for those that want to do more on something that they find interesting. It impacts on family life and kids should be allowed to wind down and relax after school. Problem is too many poor/uninteresting lessons and wasted time in school - there should be enough time in the school day to do everyting.

I have done without a san but with 2 Dell R710 servers - never used hyper v or virtualisation stuff before - found it very easy to use. Have got print, exams,wsus, impero, ghost, terminal servers all working fine on virtual - am going to get more across. Your server processor needs to support virtualisation - may need to be turned on in bios.

have been putting on latest critical updates with no problem - so it sounds like a hardware fault - need to look at error lights and then look on internet to see what they mean for that model if you don't know

Only reason for trident is to get the seat at the UN - why can't UK re-invent itself as forward looking nation on the scandanavian model - invest in green technologies etc instead of trying to live up to past glories that we cannot aford any more.

Common sense to implement major change during summer holidays - would never try this during 2 week easter break. Also common sense to fully test everything first - but when bsf/contracts/consultants involved common sense does not always apply :-)
